A lady and her husband stepped off the train in Boston. They walked without an appointment into the outer 36 of Harvard’s president. But they were 37 by his secretary and kept waiting. Tom was a middle-aged leather trader whose repeated failure in career

made him a depressed man, often complaining that others had been playing tricks on him. One day he told his wife he was so   16  with the city that he had to leave.
