A few months earlier I had been painting two portraits for each of my parents．I'd planned to give them the portraits as Christmas gifts．This would be a   36   for everyone，as I had not studied  37  ．

Hearing that, the boy stepped back, and began rolling up(卷起) one leg of his  54 . A steel brace (铁的支撑板) appeared running down his leg connecting itself with a  55 made shoe. He said to the farmer, “You see, I don’t run too well myself, and he will need someone who understands.”

A man lost his legs in a tragic accident. After the accident, only two fingers  36  on his right hand.
However, he was bright, creative and educated. He had gained much experience while traveling throughout the world. Yet, he became very  37  after the accident. He was afraid he would spend his life 38  and would no longer be able to live a life in a(n)  39  way.

He wrote to a prison officer about sending letters to prisoners. The prison officer replied that writing to the prisoners would be 45 . However, it would be 46  prison rules for them to write back.
Filled with the 47  of carrying out his idea, the man knew he had to write. He began sending one-way 48  of love, hope, strength and encouragement.

It was difficult to write those letters, especially without hope of a 51 . Frequently, he felt discouraged. He often wondered if anyone 52  read his letters. However,  he determined to 53  as long as he could help others.
One day he received a letter from the prison officer. It was a short note from the officer who monitored  and 54  the prison mails.
The letter said, “Please write on the best paper you can 55 . Your letters are passed from cell (牢房) to cell until they fall to pieces!”

Steve, a twelve―year―old boy with alcoholic parents, was about to be lost forever, by the U.S. education system. He was a big boy, yet, went  36  … until Miss White.

Miss White was a smiling, young, beautiful lady and Steve was in love! For the first time, he couldn’t take his eyes  37  his teacher; yet, still he failed.

One day, Miss White’s impatient voice  38  into his daydreams.

“Steve! Pay attention!”

After that, it was  45 !! Steve still wouldn’t do his homework. Even as the punishments became more severe, he remained  46 .

“Just try it! ONE WEEK!”He was unmoved.

“Give yourself a chance! Don’t  47  up on your life!”Nothing.

“Steve! Please! I care about you!”

Wow!  48 , Steve got it!! Someone cared about him?

Steve went home from school,  49 , that afternoon.

The following Monday he arrived at school on time. Miss White, gave a quiz on the weekend homework. Steve was the first to  50  his paper. With a look of surprise, Miss White took his paper. Obviously  51 , she began to look it over. Steve walked back to his desk, his heart  52  within his chest. As he sat down, he couldn’t  53  another look at the lovely woman.

Miss White’s face was in total shock! The  54  boy in the seventh grade had just passed his first test!

He began to take off! And he continued this  55  throughout his school life. From that moment nothing was the same for Steve.

A person may have a false idea about himself that will stop him from doing good work..
He may have the belief that he is unable to do it. A child may think he is  36  because he doesn’t understand how to make  37  use of his mental gifts. Old people may have a false idea that they are unable to learn new things because of their  38 .
A person who believes that he is stupid will not make a real  39  because he feels that it would be useless. He won’t go at a job with confidence necessary for  40 . Besides, he won’t work his hardest way, even though he may think he is doing so.  41 , he is likely to fail, and the failure will  42  his belief in his incompetence（无能）in turn.
Alfred Alder, a famous doctor, had  43  like this. When he was a small boy, he had a poor 44  in math. His teacher told his parents he had no ability in math in order that they would not  45  too much of him. In this way, his teacher and parents  46  the idea. He  47  their false judgment of his ability, feeling that it was useless to  48 . Then, he was very poor at math,  49  as they expected.
But one day everything changed. He worked out a problem which  50  of the other students had been able to solve. He  51  in solving the problem which gave him confidence. Soon he became especially good at  52 .

From his own experience, we can tell that if a person goes at a job with determination and purpose, he may  55  himself as well as others by his ability.
