  My Fellow Americans,

I have recently been told that I am one of the millions of Americans who will be suffered from Alzheimer’s Disease(老年痴呆症).

Upon learning this news, Nancy & I had to decide whether as private(私人的)citizens we would 1 this a private matter or we would make this news known in a 2 way.

In the past Nancy suffered from breast cancer 3 I had my cancer surgeries(外科手术).We found that after we told it to the public, we were able to 4 public awareness(意识).We were happy that 5 many more people went to have a test. They were treated in early stages and able to 6 to normal, healthy lives.

So now, we feel it is 7 to share it with you.In opening our hearts, we hope this might promote greater 8 of this condition.Perhaps it will encourage a clearer understanding of the individuals and families who are 9 by it.

At the moment I feel just fine.I’d 10 to live the remainder of the years God gives me on this earth doing the things I have 11 done.I will continue to share 12 journey with my beloved Nancy and my family.I plan to enjoy the great outdoors and stay in touch 13 my friends and supporters.

Unfortunately, as Alzheimer’s Disease 14 , the family often suffers a lot.I only wish there was some way I could spare Nancy from this 15 experience. When the time comes I am confident that with your help she will 16 it with faith and courage.

At last, let me thank you, the American people for giving me the great honor of 17 me to serve as your President. When the Lord calls me home, 18 that may be, I will leave with the greatest love for this country of ours and endless optimism for its future.

I now begin this 19 that will lead me into the sunset of my life.I know that for America there will always be a bright 20 ahead.

Thank you my friends.May God always bless you.

Sincerely,

Ronald Reagan

“Today is the day I start the big diet,” I told my wife as I raised my hand and 1 ,“No chocolate today!”

Benton was an eight-year-old boy who was 7 because of a kind of cancer, which caused him to live in the darkness, when he was fifteen 8 old.For the next twenty-six months, he was in and out of our hospital. For nearly four years, it seemed 9 Benton could beat the disease, until one Friday afternoon in April 2009, when he 10 a headache and lost 11 on his right side. His mom 12 him to the hospital.

So, on that first day of my diet, I went to his room and found Benton lying in his bed, his eyes 16 but not looking into this world.

“We brought his candy bag with us.Would you like to have some?” his mother asked.

Without thinking of my diet, I 17 into the bag and pulled out the first piece my fingers touched. It was my favorite as if Benton had saved one last piece 18 me.At home that evening, I answered a phone about Benton's 19 .As I 20 it up, I opened the candy and ate it.

B
I’m a pig, and my son is a rabbit. I have snakes for daughters, and my wife, believe it or not, is a dragon! Do I live in a zoo? No, of course not! I am talking about Chinese zodiac signs. Depending on the year of your birth, each person has an animal for a sign. That’s why I am a pig and my wife is a dragon. If you, like me, were born in the year of the pig, then you are brave, thoughtful and loyal. The year of the pig is filled with good fortune.
Now let’s take a closer look at this interesting animal.
Pigs were first raised by man about 9,000 years ago, and are still a very common farm animal in many parts of the world. We don’t just use pigs for their meat — almost every part of the animal is used. The hair is used for artists’ brushes. The fat is used to make floor wax, rubber and plastics.
Pigs have also been important in the world of entertainment. In 1995 the film ‘Babe’ starred a loveable talking pig as its main character. The film won an Oscar and was nominated for 6 more. In England you can even go to watch pig racing. A farmer, Rob Shepherd, has been raising money for charity by holding pig races on his farm. The events have been very successful. People don’t just want to eat pigs, it seems!
Pigs also play an important role in the English language. For example, if someone says that he will travel to the sun one day, you can say “pigs might fly!” to him. Hungry? Well then, you can “pig out” and eat lots of food. And what if someone rescues you? Well, you can say that they “saved your bacon”.
44. The writer wrote the first paragraph in a ______ tone.
  A. sad B. confused      C. serious D. humorous
45. We may know from the passage that ______.
  A. people in England like pigs more than other animals
  B. pigs are more useful than ordinary people imagine
  C. pigs are the first animals raised by man
  D. more people don’t want to eat pigs now
46. The underlined sentence “pigs might fly!” in the fifth paragraph means “______”.
  A. What you have just said is impossible
  B. Pigs are great animals
  C. I don’t understand your words
  D. I can’t agree with you more
47. Which diagram shows the structure of the passage?

     A B C D
