How often do you let other people’s nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, impolite waiter, rude boss, or an insensitive(迟钝的)employee 36 your day?
One day I was in a taxi and we headed 37 the airport. We were driving in the 38 lane when suddenly a black car drove out of a parking space right in front of us.My taxi driver slammed on his 39 ,slid sideways, and at the very last moment our car stopped and 40 the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car looked around and started 41 at us.
My taxi driver just 42 and waved at the guy.And I mean he was really 43 .So I asked,“Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!” This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call “The Law of the Garbage Truck”(垃圾车定律).
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of 44 ,full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage 45 up,they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on 46 . Don’t take it personally: Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.
Believe me. You’ll be 47 .Don’t take their garbage and 48 it to other people at work, at home,or on the streets.Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with 49 . The mark of your success is how quickly you can refocus on what’s 50 in your life, Roy Baumeister,a psychology researcher from Florida State University, found in his extensive research that you 5l bad things more often than good things in your life, you store the bad memories more easily, and you 52 them more frequently.
Therefore, love the people who treat you right and ignore the ones who don’t.Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you 53 it!
When you follow “The Law of the Garbage Truck”, you take back control of your life! You make room for the good by 54 go of the bad.Have a marvelous,garbage-free day! The seeds you plant today 55 the harvest you will reap tomorrow.

It’s only after three weeks into a new job that I made a serious mistake. My boss called it “extremely embarrassing” in a company-wide e-mail — which, 36 , he wrote because he felt he needed to explain that what I did was something 37 in the company should ever do. I wish I 38 give a good excuse for what I did. At the very least, I wish I could explain it somehow — 39 it on youth, inexperience or ignorance. Unfortunately, I’m 40 , experienced and I know better.
41 I work with some very kind and compassionate (富于同情心的) people. For the past couple of days many of them have taken time to 42 by my desk and offer comfort, encouragement and support. Some have shared with me similar 43 they have made. Evidently I’m not the only “ 44 ” person here.
One of the exchanges I had this week was with Lois, the much-honored, much-respected professional who 45 the desk right next to mine. Lois was completely 46 about her work, and to be honest I was a little nervous about how she would 47 to such an extremely embarrassing incident.
As I expected, Lois didn’t pass over the 48 when she saw me the next day. She mentioned it directly, 49 with empathetic consideration. She listened to my 50 . Just as I was ready to express my regrets, she brought my self-pity partly to a(n) 51 .
“It happened”, she said, “There’s nothing you can do to 52 that. It happened. But it’s over now. It’s 53 . It’s in the past. You need to let it go, and move on.” And with that she returned her 54 to her work, as if to say, “We’re done here.”
I beat myself up for weeks. At such times I need to remember those 55 words: It’s over. It’s done. Let it go. And mostly, move on.

Later that day, when I was cooking the evening meal, my daughter stood beside me very 44 . When I 45 , I nearly knocked her down. “Move out of the 46 ,” I said with a frown. She walked away, her little heart broken. I didn’t 47 how harshly (严厉地) I’d spoken.
While I lay awake in bed that evening, my husband said to me, “While 48 a stranger, you are polite, but with the girl you love, you are 49 . Go look on the kitchen floor; you’ll find some flowers by the door. Those are the flowers she brought for 50 . She picked them herself: pink, yellow and blue. She stood quietly not to 51 the surprise, and you 52 saw the tears in her eyes.”
__53 , my tears began to fall. I quietly went and knelt down by her bed. “Wake up, little girl,” I said. “Are these flowers you picked for me?” She smiled: “I found them out by the tree. I picked them 54 they’re pretty like you. I knew you’d like them, especially the blue.”
I said: “Daughter, I’m sorry for the way I 55 today. I 56 have yelled at you that way.”
She said: “Oh Mom, that’s okay. I love you anyway.”
I said: “Daughter, I love you too. And I do like the flowers, especially the blue.”
I had got the world 57 again. I’d 58 to be polite to people in the street – good 59 make society work. But a stranger is someone we bump into once and then never see again – and 60 is for life.
