Thanksgiving Day is a holiday in the U．S．A．It is celebrated（庆祝）every year on the fourth Thurs- day of November. On Thanksgiving Day members and friends get together for a turkey dinner. People living in cities, if their relatives live out of town, leave work early on Wednesday afternoon and drive their cars to distant places for a family reunion（团圆）. Many people also take Friday off and make it a long weekend because most Americans don’t work on Saturdays and Sundays. During the holiday travel between big cities can be a headache.

　　The Thanksgiving Day’s holiday began in 1621. When the first English settlers arrived in New World, they didn’t have enough food, and the Indians helped the white men and taught them how to grow corn and vegetables. So in the autumn after they came to the New World, they had a good harvest. The English settlers decided to celebrate, and they invited their Indian neighbors to banquet（赴宴）in order to go to give thanks to them for their help and to the God.
