One day, Jack's parents told him that his grandpa would retire (退休) after working for forty years. Jack
said in surprise, "I'm only seven, so it means Grandpa has been...er.., A really long time!"
His parents said, "Yes. That's why we are going to have a surprise party for him."
Jack loved his grandpa and wanted to do something special for him. He remembered the business card his
grandpa had given him two years before. He knew that his grandpa would no longer have the position (职位)
on that card, so he decided to build a new one for his grandpa. When the big day came, Jack was ready. But
he didn't want to put his gift together with others. He carried it around with him the whole evening.
When all the other people left, he took his grandpa's hand and brought him over to a chair and gave him the
gift.
His grandpa smiled, "Well, it must be a beautiful gift. May I open it now?"
"Sure!" Jack said excitedly.
As Grandpa opened the gift, tears came into his eyes. Jack gave him the greatest gift he had ever got! It
was a business card with his new position: FULL-TIME GRANDPA!
"Now your full-time job is my grandpa!" Jack said.
"Well, how much do I get paid?" his grandpa asked, smiling.
"As many hugs as you want!" With these words. Jack gave Grandpa a hug.
"Well, I guess that means I'm the richest man in the world!" said Grandpa.

Sally: an animal doctor What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened in your job? Probably the dog that bit me. It wasn’t a big one - I don’t mind the big ones. The small ones are the worst. It gave me a very nasty bite. Have you ever done any other jobs? Yes, I did different kinds of jobs when I was a student. One summer I did fruit-picking in Spain. What’s the worst job you’ve ever done? In order to improve my English, I worked for a rich family in New York. I never had a day off and I had to do everything – cooking, cleaning, shopping- and look after their horrible children. I left after two weeks and managed to get a job as a waitress in an Italian restaurant. Leo: an actor What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened in your job? So many bad things have happened-but I think my worst moment was when I read my first bad review in the newspaper. They wrote terrible things about me, and I was so upset. After that I didn’t read my reviews any more. Have you ever done any other jobs? Oh yes, it’s hard to make a living as an actor. So I’ve done lots of part-time jobs over the years. For example, I’ve worked in a shop, sold ice cream at the beach and handed out publicity flyers in the street. What’s the worst job you’ve ever done? The worst job I’ve ever done was at an egg-packing factory. Working conditions are terrible-you stand for hours at the end of a belt, putting eggs into boxes. You can’t have a break, and if you want to go to the toilet, you have to ask for permission. And worst of all, the smell was terrible- I’ve never eaten an egg since then. |

Up to 65% of children don't get as much sleep as they should do, and this can make them nervous
and slower at school, scientists say.
So how long should young people sleep each night? The answer is between eight and ten hours. If
you don't get enough sleep at night, you'll have less energy the next day.
But the
scientists say many children have missed out on 4,500 hours of sleep by the time they are
seven years old. They say that children miss sleep because they have TVs and computers in their rooms,
and busy parents don't read to their younger children at night any more. The traditional "bedtime story"
helps children to relax and fall asleep peacefully. Children with TVs and computers in their bedrooms
were more likely to sleep badly, and to get less than eight hours' sleep. Even losing one hour's sleep a
night can mean that children do less well at school.
German scientists think that your brain (大脑) keeps working while you are asleep. To show that
they were right, they gave two groups of people a problem to work out. One group went to sleep, and
the other group stayed awake. The result? The people who slept worked out the answer more quickly.
This showed that their brains had been trying to find the answer while the people were asleep. So,
make sure you get enough sleep tonight, and you'll be at your best tonight , and you'll be at your best
tomorrow!
