Earth Hour(地球一小时) is a global event organized by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and it is held on the last Saturday of March every year. It asks people to   26  their lights and other electrical appliances(电器) like computers for one hour. In this way, people can pay   27 attention to the climate(气候) change and know that it’s important to save the earth.
Earth Hour first  28  in Sydney in 2007. More cities around the world followed Sydney’s lead in 2008.   29   March 28, 2009, 88 countries and more than 4,000 cities joined Earth Hour. From 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Beijing, Dalian, Hangzhou, Hong Kong and many   30  cities in China took the action, too.   31   shops closed and people used candles at home. The UN said that it  32   save the energy(能量).

Earth Hour started in Sydney on March 31^st, 2007. It calls on families and buildings to turn off the lights from 20:30 to 21:30 on the last Saturday night of March. In 2007 more than 2.2 million homes and businesses turned off their lights. 1.    And it was supported by 50 million people from thirty-five countries. On March 28, 2010 over 2100 cities in another eight countries took part in it. 2.

In 2012 in China, there were many cities taking part in this activity, especially some large cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai.... In those cities, many people turned off lights in the hour. 3. In colleges some students held some activities to make all the students leave their dormitories.

It was 20:30, Beijing time. In Beijing some people were taking a walk with their families or friends. 4. And in Ningbo some young people were holding a party in a park,singing and dancing. The people from the three cities felt very relaxed.Earth Hour has a variety of activities, but the final goal is the same. That is focusing on (聚焦) climate change and protecting the environment for individuals.

Team Marine, US  A group of students at Santa Monica High School started an organization called Team Marine. They tell people why plastic bags are bad for sea animals and environment. In 2011, they successfully made lawmakers (立法者) in their city stop people using plastic bags.
Felix, 15, Germany  In 2007, a 9-year-old boy, Felix, started a club，Plant for the Planet. It encourages children around the world to plant trees in their own countries. Felix helped plant 25 million trees in Germany and 120 million trees worldwide.
Alec, 17, US  When he was 12, Alec set up Kids VS Global (全球的) Warming. It teaches kids about weather change and ways to stop the world getting warmer and warmer. Alec travels widely to encourage people to help stop global warming. He has given more than 70 talks across the country.
Olivia, 13, US  When Olivia was 11, she heard about the 2010 oil spill (漏油) in the Gulf of Mexico. She painted 500 pictures of birds to raise money for the clean-up. She raised more than $200,000 to protect (保护) birds and other wild animals.
