Hello, listeners.Welcome to Henton Hospital Radio. Before our music programme at four,I’m going to repeat some of our hospital rules.

The hospital can sleep 800 patients. There’re 8 beds in each ward. The visiting hours are in the afternoon from 2∶30 to 3∶30 and in the evening from 7∶00 to 8∶00.But remember only two people can see you at the same time.Sorry about that, but you can see what would happen if we didn’t have these rules.

The other rules are about our hours. We start quite early—you might not be used to that.We wake you up at 6 o’clock, and breakfast is at 8 o’clock, lunch is at noon. There’s tea at 3∶30 and supper is at 6 o’clock.

You can see the no smoking sign—we don’t allow smoking in the wards,I’m sure you understand why. However,if you do need to smoke, there are some smoking-rooms where it is allowed.

You will find the radio switch on the wall near your bed, with your own headphones,if you want to listen. It’s our own hospital radio wishing you a quick recovery.

When I crossed a small road on my first day in Kolkata, I was surprised because I heard a bell-not a horn (喇叭),  It was a tiny man pulling a rickshaw, He stopped and picked up two children from the front door of their house and pulled them to school. For many people, the rickshaw in Kolkata has many advantages, When the traffic is bad, rickshaws find a way through the traffic. If your miss your bus and there aren't any taxis, you can always find a rickshaw in Kolkata. Rickshaws are from your house to the market and waits for you. Then he loads (装载)all your things, drops you off outside your home and helps you unload, No other type of public transport offers this kind of service.

From June to September, Kolkata gets heavy rain. Sometimes it rains for 48 hours without a break. In some parts of the city, the roads flood (水淹), and anything with an engine(发动机) is useless, But the rickshaw drivers never stop working, even with water all around them.

But not everyone thinks rickshaws are a good thing. The local government want to ban rickshaws. They believe it is wrong for one man to pull another person when there is modern transport in the city. However, there is a problem with this plan. Many of the rickshaw drivers come from the countryside. The only job they can find in Kolkata is pulling a rickshaw, If the city bans rickshaws, these men won't have a job. So for the moment, the people of Kolkata still go by rickshaw.

London has a magazine which you can receive on TV, because it is not printed on paper.

If you want to read this magazine, you have to get a decoder(译码).Each page of it is numbered, so you only have to dial(拨)the number to choose what you want to read about. You can choose anything you want, from cooking to the latest news.

London already has three such services. One, transmitted(传送)by TV, is called ORSCLE.The other two, on BBC, are called CEEFAX and ORACLE because they let you see facts.Though CEEFAX and ORACLE have been in use for some time, they have not been publicized(公布,宣传).BBC engineers don’t think that their idea will ever replace books and newspapers because they can be taken with a person everywhere. However, many people would agree that this is a breakthrough as great as the invention of printing, which could change not just our reading habits but our whole way of life.
