How was your Children’s Day? What kind of gifts did you get?
Eight third graders in some poor places in Hebei Province got new schoolbags as Children’s Day gifts. They were very happy. There were pencils, pens, exercise books and many other school supplies in the schoolbags.
These schoolbags are from students in Beijing Zhongguancun Fourth Primary School. They are in Class 5, Grade 3. They raised money by themselves. They printed out their writings. Their head teacher Mrs Hou helped them to make books. They sold the books at their school to make 800 yuan.
Chen Hongsheng, 9 years old, is one of the students. “We use 800 yuan to buy eight schoolbags at the post office. The post office workers give us a list of the kids. These kids live in poor places. We can choose eight kids by ourselves and post these schoolbags to them,” she said very proudly. “These schoolbags are gifts of our class. This summer vacation, I’ll send out a schoolbag by myself. How do you like to go to school like this one in Oxford, England? There are no real classes. The students go from one group to another when they want to. To Give up or Not to Give up as Class Monitor??

In about 3 months, I will take a very important test. If I pass the test with good grades, I can get to the 10th grade and choose a good school to study in. Now I am trying my best to achieve this. At the same time, I’m the monitor in my class, which means I should do lots of things for my class. ① I am so busy with my school-work and duties as monitor that I don’t have enough time to keep a balance between them . Gradually I become lazy. ②The other day, my head teacher told me that she was disappointed in my poor performance as class monitor . Her words really discouraged me. ?
What should I do now, to give up or not to give up as class monitor? How did we help to save our earth this week? Let me tell you.
First, my family tried to save electrcity (电). We never left the lights 36 when leaving the room. We 37 the TV when nobody was watching it. Mum only used cold water in the washing machine.
