I was on my way back home and was very tired. I at a restaurant to have breakfast. Right after I placed my order, I saw a man come in. He was carrying a small backpack and looked like he had seen better times. He reached in his pocket and pulled out some . He asked the waitress if 38 cents was to buy a cup of coffee. She looked at his backpack and said, “ . Have a seat.” (Coffee was 50 cents a cup at the time.) It really touched me how she had tried to protect his pride and how he hadn’t asked for any charity.
Shortly before my came, I asked the waitress to come over. I said, “You know, I am not feeling well. I don’t think I am going to be able to eat my breakfast. Do you think there is here who might eat it?” She first asked if I was OK and then she . She said, “I think so. Are you sure?” I told her that I was sure.
She then walked over to the gentleman and told him that I had ordered food and it was too to stop the order but I didn’t feel like eating. Would he be so kind as to take it they wouldn’t have to throw it away? I had walked to the cash register(收银台) and was paying for the meal. At the cash register, I asked if they had gift cards. They did. I bought one $25.00 and asked them to give it to the gentleman after I left.

查看习题详情和答案>>Keep your speech simple. Your audience can’t take all of your main ideas, and they can only remember one or two of them, not ten or twenty. So you should prepare one or two of your main ideas very well. But if you can’t express what you want to say, then your speech will not be paid attention to. And if you don’t have a clear idea of what you want to say, your audience won’t, either.
Organize your speech well. No matter how long or short your speech is, you have to organize your speech—how you are going to open or begin, what main points you want to make and how you’re going to close or end. A strong close is usually very important and critical(关键的): the last thing you say is what your audience will most likely remember. If not, they will be confused.
Keep your speech not long. The standard (标准的) length of a speech is usually 12 minutes. Most people can’t put their minds in one thing for too long time, which will make them tired and lose their interest. If you pay no attention to your audience’s reaction(反应),the audience will get bored. Of course, your speech will fail.
Following these suggestions above, you can make a good speech in public, and you will be an excellent speaker, I think.

building where his son studied had collapsed and looked like a pancake.
He was too shocked. He didn't know what he should do for a while, and then he remembered the words he had said
to his son: "no matter what happens, I'll always be there for you!" And tears began to fill his eyes. He started digging(挖)through the ruins. As he was digging, other helpless parents and the firemen arrived and tried to pull him off the
ruins,
saying," It's too late! They are all dead! There's nothing you can do!" To them he replied with one line:" are you now?" And then he kept on digging.
No one helped, however. He went on alone because he needed to know for himself: "is my boy alive or dead?""He
dug for 8 hours...12 hours.…24 hours.…36hours…then, in the 39th hour, he pulled back a rock and heard his son's
words. He shouted his son's name, "Armand!" He heard back, "Dad?! It's me, Dad! 我告诉我的同学们保持冷静。I
told them if you were alive, you'd save me and when you saved me, they'd be saved. You promised (承诺) ' No matter
what happens, I'll always be there for you!' You did it, Dad!"
"What's going on there? How is it?" the father asked.
"There are 14 of us left out of 33, Dad. We're frightened, hungry, thirsty and thankful you're here. When the building
fell down, it made a triangle(三角形), and it saved us."
"Come out, boy!"
"No, Dad! Let my classmates out first, because I know you'll get me! No matter what happens, I know you'll always
be there for me!"
