In 1995, Oseola McCarty donated $ 150, 000 --most of the money she made in her lifetime--to the University of Southern Mississippi. She just wanted to help poor students. Oseola McCarty was born in 1908. She had to leave school when she was eight to support her family by w 【小题3】 other people's clothes. She made only a few dollars a day. Oseola washed the clothes by hand. Then she h 【小题4】 the clothes to dry. She did this for nearly 80 years. In the 1960s , when many people began to buy their own washers(洗衣机) and dryers（烘干机）, McCarty didn’t have much work to do, so she started to iron clothes i 【小题5】 .
McCarty n 【小题6】 married or had children. Her life was simple. She went to work and to church. She had a black-and-white television, b 【小题7】 she didn’t watch it very often. It only had one channel. Oseola McCarty s【小题8】 money all her life and finally had about $ 250, 000.
In an interview with the University of Southern Mississippi News, McCarty said, "I can't do everything, but I can do s 【小题9】 to help somebody. And what I can do I will do. I wish I could do more." This quiet exceptional cleaning lady has t 【小题10】   the world a lesson in giving.

This happened to me at the age of twelve. It seems like a long time to remember the name of the old lady. Yet it keeps in my  35 that she taught me a lesson in tolerance(宽容) which I shall never forget.
On a winter afternoon, a friend and I were  36 stones onto the roof of the old lady’s house. I found myself a perfectly smooth stone and threw it out. The stone was too smooth, however, so it slipped(滑) from my hands and  37  straight not for the roof but for a small window on the old lady’s back porch(门廊). At the sound of broken   38 , we knew we were in trouble and ran away.
I was too scared(胆怯) about getting caught by the old lady that first night. However, a few days later, when I was sure that I hadn’t been   39 , I started to feel guilty(有罪的) for what I had done. She  40 greeted me with a smile each day when I gave her the newspaper, but I was no longer able to act comfortably.
I made up my mind to  41 for her window with my paper delivery(发送) money I collected. I put the money in an envelope with a note explaining I was  42  for breaking her window and hoped that the seven dollars would cover the cost for repairing it.
I waited  43 it was dark, snuck(悄悄地走) up to the old lady’s house and put the letter I didn’t sign in her door. Once again, I could have the freedom of lookingstraight  44 the old lady’s kind eyes.
The next day, I handed the old lady her paper and was able to return the warm smile that I was  45 from her. She thanked me and gave me a bag of cookies.
Reaching for the cookies, I  46 an envelope and pulled it out of the bag. When I opened the envelope, I was surprised to see the seven dollars and a short note that said, “I’m proud of you!”
