the year 2053!
I expect you find that pretty hard to believe. Let me explain. This book is a journal I wrote
last month for a very special competition. I won the first prize, which was that my book would
become part of the first ever experiment in time travel. It would be put in a time capsule to be
sent back almost fifty years into the past. So, if everything went according to the plan, you should
be reading this in about the year 2005.
Do you know what time capsules are? They are usually containers made of some very strong
material-so strong that it should last for hundreds or thousands of years without being destroyed.
Inside these containers, you put things that are typical of the place in which you live. For example,
in 2005 you might put a copy of a popular comic, a CD by a famous musician, videos of television
programmes-all sorts of things. The idea is that when people in another century open up the time
capsule. They'll be able to see what life was like in the past.
Until now, all time capsules have been left for people in the future to find. This one is the first
that has been sent from the future to the past. I don't understand how it's going to be done, but I
think it's a really cool idea. If it works, my own grandparents will be able to read this when they
were secondary school students! But if my grandparents did read this, why haven't they ever
mentioned it to me?
