　　Mr．Green was clever three years ago．And few men could trouble him．But one day he was hit down by a car and his head got badly hurt．And now he often forgets something and thinks in a different way from ours．

　　One morning, Mr．Green woke up early．He put on his coat and began to walk in the street while people were sleeping．He wanted to buy newspapers but the post office was still closed．He had to go back and go to bed again．Before he took off his clothes, someone knocked at the door．He got up and opened it．Two hunters(猎人)came in．They looked at him carefully and then said,“We saw a dead man just now．We thought it was you．”

　　“Really?”Mr．Green said in surprise．“Where?”

　　“In the forest．”

　　“It’s impossible!”said Mr．Green．“I didn't go there at all this morning．”

　　“But he died last night．”

　　“I haven't been there for nearly a week．”

　　“But he looks like you．”

　　“What clothes does he wear, then?”

　　“A blue coat like yours and brown pants．”

　　“And what color are his socks?”

　　“Black．”

　　Mr．Green became happy．He showed his socks to them and said,“Look!Mine are white．”

　　Some family names come from colours in English．We know some family names like Green, White, Black, Blue and Brown．Mr．Wu has three foreign friends．They are Mr．Green, Mr．White and Mr．Brown．They all work in Beijing now．

　　Mr．Green’s name is Jeff Green．He is an English teacher at No．4 Middle School．His wife is Helen Green．They are English．They have two children．Jim is their son and Kate is their daughter．Li Lei and Lin Tao are Jim’s classmates．They are in Class 3, Grade 1．Their English teacher is Miss Gao．Jim has a bird and its name is Polly．

　　Mr．White is an American．His wife is Joan．They have three children-two daughters and a son．Jane White is fifteen．Emma White is twelve．They are middle school students．Their brother Bob is only nine．He is a student, too．Look, Jane is in a red sweater．Emma is in an orange hat and Bob is in a black coat．

　　Mr．Brown is an American, too．Jack Brown is his only child．He is twelve years old．Emma White is his classmate．Mr．Wu is their English teacher．They are in Class 2, Grade 1．They have many Chinese friends．

　　One evening Charlie was on his way home from the railway station．When he turned round a corner, he heard footsteps behind him and he thought someone was coming near．He began to walk fast．The footsteps came fast, too．He slowed down．The footsteps also slowed down．Now he was sure that someone must be going after him．He tried to hide．Still the steps followed him．He didn't know how to save himself, so he jumped over some tall grass and hid himself in a cemetery(墓地)．He threw himself down on one of tombs(坟墓)．

　　The man behind came near．Charlie could hear the man jump over the grass．Thoughts of thieves and robbers filled his mind．Charlie stood up and faced the man．"What do you want?Why are you coming after me?" He asked．

　　"I say," the stranger asked, "do you always go home like this, or are you taking some special exercise tonight?I want to go to Mr．Green's and don't know the way．The station master told me to follow you as you live next door．Excuse me for asking, but is there much farther to go before we get there?"
