Surtsey was born in 1963.Scientists saw the birth of this island. It began at 7.30 a.m. on 14th November. A fishing boat was near Iceland. The boat moved under the captain's（船长）feet. 　　Every summer many people, girls and women as well as boys and men try to swim from England to France or from France to England. The distance at the nearest point is only about 20 miles but because of the strong tides（海浪）the distance that must be swum is usually more than twice as far.
