A. Start early
B. Set up a side business
C. Build your network
D. Predict what will happen in the future
E. Expand your knowledge
F. Be willing to spend your time and money
61._______
Who doesn’t want to have a good future? It’s something everyone desires. The one who determines whether or not you have a good future is you. Don’t wait until something bad happens. Don’t wait until you lose your job. It is you who must take action. Start now while the situation is still good. Why? Because it takes time to build something. Let’s say you want to build an alternative income stream that you can rely on. You can’t build that overnight. Doing that takes time and persistence. If you don’t start early, it might not have been ready by the time you need it.
62. _______
It could be difficult to spend your time and money on something that doesn’t give you immediate return. But it’s important that you do that and it is one of the best ways to prepare yourself for the future. Those who are wise always spare some time and money in advance to invest in their future. If you don’t, your progress will be slow and you wouldn’t be ready in time.
63._________
I’m sure you’ve heard the advice “ Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” It’s good advice, but how can you apply if you know only one basket? By expanding your knowledge, you will know what possibilities there are so that you can find new opportunities. Expanding your knowledge can also help you see something you already know in a different light. You can see it from a new perspective. Overall, expanding your knowledge improves your ability to make good decisions.
64. _______
Building a side business is one of the best ways to invest in your future. In fact, it’s a favorite of mine. Not only can it help you prepare for unexpected job loss and provide you with an alternative income source, but also it teaches you a lot in the process. You will learn much because you deal with the real world.
65. ________
Your network of friends and acquaintances is one of the best assets (资产) you could have. It can inform you of new opportunities. It can also help you find the resources you need. By building your network, you are preparing for a time in the future when you might need help from it. But build your network with right motivation. Don’t build it with the motivation to get something from it.

LONDON —A British judge on Thursday sentenced a businessman who sold fake (假冒的)bomb detectors (探测器) to 10 years in prison, saying the man hadn’t cared about potentially deadly consequences.
It is believed that James McCormick got about $77. 8 million from the sales of his detectors — which were based on a kind of golf ball finder — to countries including Iraq, Belgium and Saudi Arabia.
McCormick, 57,was convicted (判罪) of cheats last month and sentenced Thursday at the Old Bailey court in London.
“Your cheating conduct in selling a great amount of useless equipment simply for huge profit promoted a false sense of security and in all probability materially contributed to causing death and injury to innocent people,’’ Judge Richard Hone told McCormick. “You have neither regret, nor shame, nor any sense of guilt.”
The detectors, sold for up to $ 42,000 each, were said to be able to find such dangerous objects as bombs under water and from the air. But in fact they “lacked any grounding in science” and were of no use.
McCormick had told the court that he sold his detectors to the police in Kenya, the prison service in Hong Kong, the army in Egypt and the border control in Thailand.
“I never had any bad results from customers,” he said.
39. Why was McCormick sentenced to prison?
A. He sold bombs. B. He caused death of people.
C. He made detectors. D. He cheated in business.
40. According to the judge, what McCormick had done ________ .
A. increased the cost of safeguarding
B. lowered people’s guard against danger
C. changed people’s idea of social security
D. caused innocent people to commit crimes
41. Which of the following is true of the detectors?
A. They have not been sold to Africa.
B. They have caused many serious problems.
C. They can find dangerous objects in water.
D. They don't function on the basis of science.
42. It can be inferred from the passage that McCormick _________ .
A. sold the equipment at a low price
B. was well-known in most countries
C. did not think he had committed the crime
D. had not got such huge profit as mentioned in the text
(Para. 1-3) | McCormick, 57,was convicted of cheats last month and sentenced Thursday at the Old Bailey court in London | 新闻案件的简介:57岁的McCormick上月被起诉诈骗并于周三在伦敦的Old Bailey court法庭被判刑。 |
(Para. 4) | cheating conduct, promoted a false sense of security, contributed to causing death and injury to innocent people | 法官宣判:罪犯的欺骗行为增强了人们虚假的安全感并促使导致给无辜百姓带来死亡和伤害。 |
(Para. 5-7) | But in fact they “lacked any grounding in science” and were of no use, sold…to… , never had any bad results | 案件细节及当事人的反诉:假冒炸弹探测器被销往世界各地,但它根本没有科学依据,也毫无用处。
根据问题中的关键词according to the judge定位第四段的第一句:your cheating conduct … promoted a false sense of security and … contributed to causing death and injury to innocent people(你的欺骗行为提高了人们虚假的安全感并助推给无辜百姓带来死亡和伤害)。
A对应文章倒数第二段的最后一句he sold his detectors to the police in Kenya, the prison service in Hong Kong, the army in Egypt and the border control in Thailand。 B对应第一段第一句“the man hadn’t cared about potentially deadly consequences”,法官只说罪犯没有关注潜在的致命后果,而不是已经导致严重的问题。C对应第五段的第一句话“were said to be able to find such dangerous objects as bombs under water and from the air”提示,探测仪的功能只是据说,而不一定真的具备找到水中危险物品的功能。选项D定位第五段的最后一句“in fact they ‘lacked any grounding in science’ and were of no use可知,这种探测仪没有科学根据,也毫无用途,和D“没有科学根据的工作原理”相吻合,故最佳答案是D。
C“认为他没有犯罪”和第七段对应,其中他所说的“I never had any bad results from customers”和C符合,C是正确答案。

查看习题详情和答案>>The number of speakers of English in Shakespeare’s time is estimated(估计) to have been about five million. Today it is estimated that some 260 million people speak it as a native language, mainly in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. In addition to the standard varieties of English found in these areas, there are a great many regional and social varieties of the language as well as various levels of usage that are employed both in its spoken and written forms.
In fact, it is impossible to estimate the number of people in the world who have acquired an adequate(足够的) working knowledge of English in addition to their own languages. The purpose for English learning and the situations in which such learning takes place are so varied that it is difficult to explain and still more difficult to judge what forms an adequate working knowledge for each situation.
The main reason for the widespread demand for English is its present-day importance as a world language. Besides serving the indefinite needs of its native speakers, English is a language in which some of important works in science, technology, and other fields are being produced, and not always by native speakers. It is widely used for such purposes as meteorological and airport communications, international conferences, and the spread of information over the radio and television networks of many nations. It is a language of wider communication for a number of developing countries, especially former British colonies. Many of these countries have multilingual populations and need a language for internal communication in such matters as government, commerce, industry, law and education as well as for international communication and for entrance to the scientific and technological developments in the West.
