     Nowadays, the pressures on schools and teachers are often passed on to students and parents. Students are tested more and assigned more homework. In the past 25 years, homework assignments have risen by 51% according to a 2008 study at the University of Michigan. That is an average of 12 extra hours of homework per week!

     Excessive homework often leaves no time for students to have fun or do something for themselves. Many parents spend at least three hours every night going through their children's work.

      However, the governments' efforts to cut the homework burden of primary and middle school students have drawn mixed reactions.  Ironically, though teachers have been widely criticized for piling on homework, it is parents who sometimes ask for more work for their children! When teachers don't give homework, some parents will go to the school and complain. They want teachers to assign homework every day as a means of making sure teachers do their job and the children have work to do.

“Everyone will have a new start, so do not let your past defeat your present and future. In the university, I know what I shall do. Now I have applied for a student loan, and I will work a part-time job, which I think, can cover the expense myself. I won’t add any pressure to my family.” Jia Zuosheng, 27, a security guard at the library of Beijing-based Tsinghua University before he was admitted to Shandong University, told the reporter about himself calmly.

“I am lucky. I cherished the job very much because it provided me with a good chance to read books. I took night shifts so I had plenty of time to study in the daytime. When I had problems I couldn`t work out, I plucked up my courage to consult teachers or students at Tsinghua, who were all friendly to me, and helped me a lot. ”

“My dream is to be a college teacher, to educate students with my knowledge and love and help them enjoy true, kind and beautiful things. That’s also the reason why I took the national entrance examination again. Although, however, I’m old enough to get married, I hope my parents would understand what I want to do.”

We all know the story of "The tortoise and the hare". The hare lost because he was overconfident. So slow­-and-steady wins the race.but did you know the tortoise and hare raced three more times? Afrer his loss the hare challenged the tortoise to a second race and this time was without stopping from start to finsh. There was no doubt that he won. The lesson this time was
that fast-and-consistent beats slow-and-steady.then the tortoise challenged the hare to  a third race. over a slightly different route. The hare ran at top speed until he reachcd a broad river.Although the finishing line was just a kilometre past the river the hare had no way of croasing and once more the slow-and-steady swimming tortoise came out on tup.
The hare and the tortoise. by this time, had become good friends. They realized they could perfom better together than separately. So they decided to have one more race. But this time they would work as a team.  They started off. and this time the hare carried the tortoise till the  riverbank. There. the tortoise took over and swam across the river with the hare on his hack.
