Every afternoon hundreds of thousands of youths fill internet cafes, switches on a game console (游戏机), or sit down to enter fantasy worlds. I’m talking about video games. These games can be fun and exciting, but we need to look out when this pastime becomes an addiction.

Video games can also be a bad effect on younger children who may be watching. Many video games are violent and the object in most of them is to kill other players. This does not send the right message to the children who need to be told that violence is not acceptable and need to be taught how to deal with situations maturely(成熟地). Even if we do need to sit down and play a violent video game, we need to make sure that it is not affect the younger people around us.

Playing a computer game in our spare time is not a bad thing. Games can be a great way to relax after studying, or to improve our creativity. However, games should not become the focus of our life. We cannot be addicted to them. Meanwhile we must learn to control ourselves and spend our time more wisely.

In Western countries, it is common for students to have a part-time job after school and at weekends. Students can earn their own money and learn more about the “real world”. They enjoy the extra independence and money, and parents enjoy the quiet house. However, it seems that, in China, parents worry so much about their children’ studies that they would prefer to see their children spending most of their free time studying and preparing for all those exams.
It is natural for parents to feel that way, but I believe the answer lies in balance. Sometimes, Western school children work long hours after school to make money, and so they become too tired to listen in class or have no time for homework. But Chinese students spend so much time on their studies that all else becomes less important until they want that new MP4 player.
So, find a good and healthy balance! If you have a part-time job, you’ll be happy, and your parents will also be happy because you’re spending your hard-earned money and not theirs!

How to manage stress is thus a very important problem that we have to deal with properly. I think stress itself doesn’t exist. So it’s impossible to expect everything to be perfect. If we have done our best,  although not successfully, there is nothing to regret. And we don’t need to blame ourselves continuously.
