If you are a fan of the Hollywood blockbuster（大片）Star Wars you must have been enjoying the exciting fights in outer space in recent days. But while you are watching films, the United States is worrying about these fights in real life.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said on May 18 the US may change the way it thinks about space. This may mean the restart of the socalled Stars War Program.
The spokesman said the US “is not looking at armed space,” and is just “making sure US satellites are protected”. But even experts from the US say. “No one should be fooled.”
Space has become more and more important to the US military. Satellites help soldiers talk to each other, and can show bombs where their targets are.
It is reported the US Air Force has already developed weapons in space. In April, they sent up a satellite that can stop other nations' military satellites working. Experts argue that if the US sends more weapons into space an arms race may begin.
“Let's think of a world where the US has dangerous satellites everywhere in space that are going over countries every 10 minutes. Do you think other countries are going to accept that?” said Theresa Hitchens, an American defense expert.
Many countries have uttered their disagreement, and China is among them. “We are against putting weapons into space,” said Kong Quan, Foreign Ministry spokesman. “We have always held the opinion that space should be used for peace to benefit humankind.”

In the short term, food would have to be brought from Earth. The dream, however, is to grow things in greenhouses on the moon. “You’d grow things in liquid---there’s no reason why that wouldn’t work,” says Pillinger, a professor. This is a dangerous world we live in. The numbers of murders goes up every year； people are dying of cancer；more people contract（感染）HIV；more teens are using drugs；etc. You know this because you’ve heard all the statistics on the news. But do you really have an accurate idea what they mean? The numbers are going up, but how do they compare to the growth in population?
