I simply mean that the loss of them made me appreciate more what I had _40_____.

My parents and my teachers saw something in me ----- a __41____ to live ---- which I didn’t see, and they made me want to fight in out with _42____.

The __43___ lesson I had to learn was to believe in myself. I am not talking about simply the kind of __44____ that helps me down so unfamiliar staircase alone. I __45___ something bigger than that: a confidence that I am, despite being __46____, a real, positive person; that there is a special place where I can make myself fit.

It took me years to discover and strengthen this confidence. It had to start with the easy and simple things. __47____ a man gave me an indoor baseball. I thought he was laughing at me and I was __48____. “I can’t use this,” I said. “Take with you,” he urged me, “and roll it around.” The words __49___ in my head. “Roll it around!” By rolling the ball I could _50_____ where it went. This gave me an idea how to achieve a goal I had thought _51____ before playing baseball. At Philadelphia’s Overbrook School for the Blind I _52___ a successful variation of baseball. We called it ground ball.

I have set ahead of me a series of goals and then tried to reach them, one at a time. I had to be clear about my _53____. It was no good crying for something that I knew at the start was __54___ out of reach because that only invited bitterness of failure. I would fail something anyway, __55___ on the average I made progress.

Welcome every morning with a smile. Let your first hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certain to echo(回响) through your entire day. Today will never happen again. Don’t waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.
Starting the day right can give good momentum (动力) for the rest of the day. Having a power morning is a key factor for a fruitful day. Here are some tips on getting the most out of the morning.
Wake up early. In theory, there’s no difference in waking up early or late as long as you get the proper amount of sleep. However, there is a psychological advantage when you wake up earlier than the average person and then you’ll have more time to do preparation before engaging in the real world.
Exercise. Good health is always a benefit with exercise, but studies have also shown that morning exercise helps you to sleep better at nights.
Eat breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day. According to the Mayo Clinic, we should choose three from the following four: fruits and vegetables, grains, dairy, and protein. Did you know that you can actually gain weight when you skip breakfast?
Take a shower. When you shower, do you do it in the morning or at night? I used to shower in the evenings, but I found that morning showers helped me to be more smart.
Prioritize (优先) your To-Do list. Leo coined the acronym(首字母缩略词) MIT to mean “most important tasks.” Our to-do list might be never ending, but put on top of the list a couple of urgent tasks that will define the day to be a successful one.
Check your emails. Only once. Getting a lot of emails can be very distractive(分散精力的). You actually are more productive when you check them only a few times at fixed time of the day. I only do them 2-3 times a day—once in the morning, once at lunch, and one more as it gets toward the end of the day.
45. The purpose for the author to write this passage is to_______________.
A. tell you to get up early every day
B. offer you the best way to start the day
C. give you advice about how to arrange a day
D. advise you to prioritize your to-do list every morning
46. If you don’t have breakfast, you may__________.
A. lose weight.              B. be productive.
C. put on weight.            D. be more smart.
47. The underlined word “coined” in Paragraph 6 mean__________.
A. invented         B. designed          C. founded        D. defined
48. The author advises you to check your emails only once because__________.
A. the emails are not important
B. reading e-mails is distractive
C. you can only read e-mails at fixed time
D. getting so many emails can distract your attention

Cutting meat production and consumption by 30 percent would help to reduce carbon emissions(排放) and improve health in the most meat-loving nations, scientists said on Wednesday.

Using prediction models, British and Australian researchers   1   that improving efficiency, increasing carbon capture and  2   fossil fuel dependence in farming would not be enough to   3    emissions targets.

But combining these steps  4   a 30 percent reduction in livestock(家畜)  5   in major meat-producing nations and a similar  6   in meat-eating, would lead to "substantial population health benefits" and cut emissions, they said.

The study found that in Britain, a 30 percent  7  intake of animal-source saturated(饱和的) fat by adults would reduce the  8   of premature(过早的) deaths from heart disease by some 17 percent -- equivalent to 18,000 premature deaths reduced in one year.

In Sao Paulo, Brazil, it could mean as  9   as 1,000 premature deaths reduced in a year, they said.

10   the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization, 18 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions are from meat production and experts say rising  11   for meat, particularly in countries with growing economies, could  12   livestock production up by 85 percent from 2000 levels  13   2030.

The scientists said global action was needed to maximize the benefits of cutting meat production and  14 , and that the environmental  15   "may apply only in those countries that currently have high production levels."

The study was  16   in The Lancet medical journal as part of a series in climate change and health  17   the Copenhagen global climate summit scheduled next month.

In a second study, British scientists found that increased walking and cycling, and  18   cars, would have a much greater impact on health  19   low-emission vehicles in rich and middle-income countries.

Andrew Haines, director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and head of the research series, said delegates at Copenhagen needed "to understand the potential  20   impacts of their plans."
