Letters to the next president
Dear Mr. President:
I would like to personally thank you for your time and concern for our great country. I would like to take a few minutes to address a few concerns that I have with the United States.
First of all, I would like to address the war. In my opinion, we should have never been involved with Iraq to the extent that we are now. I believe we should pull our troops out. However, I think there should be a time table that we follow but the time table should not be released(发布) because the enemy does not need to know when we are going to pull out. Also, the war takes out a ton of our money, which leads me to my next issue.
The economy right now, in the opinion of many Americans is the biggest issue with which we are facing right now. No one can predict what will happen one day or the next. The obvious thing to do is to put 700 billion dollars in the economy, but that bill failed and was rejected by the House of Representatives(众议院). Instead of putting 700 billion dollars in, I think the money should be equally distributed among Americans to pay off their debts. I'm not sure if this would work, but I think it is a positive alternative(替代) we could take.
My final issue I would like to call to your attention is teacher's salaries. The high school students of today are America's future. In a way, America's future depends greatly on the high school teachers of America. Saying this, it is sad that teacher's salaries are where they are. While teachers are working harder and harder every day to teach high school students, CEO's of big companies that are driving our countries economy into the ground are getting bonuses. I'm not saying that teacher's salaries should be the same of CEO's of companies, but I do strongly believe that action should be taken to increase the salaries of teachers because they have one of the most important jobs in America - - preparing our country for the future.
Once again, thank you for your time and your effort you put in to making this great country a better place.
Sincerely, Walker

One day, I was sitting in class taking notes then my teacher asked me to leave the classroom. I have no clue as to what was about to happen. I nervously walked out of the classroom and I saw my father being standing by the door. I asked him what was going. He just told me to get into his car immediately. When I got in, I found my grandparents were there, too. My grandfather told me that we were going to have dinner for mine birthday, which was actual in two days. Then, grandmother gave me a birthday card. I opened it quickly, which made everyone surprising. But they gave me a much big surprise! The card is said, “Happy birthday! We’re going to Disney World, RIGHT NOW!”
It happened many years ago, and I was in high school then. Being a student from a 36 family, I had to work on weekends to make some extra money that my family couldn’t really 37 to give me, and one day after work I lost my wallet.
My old car 38 gas in the back. I paid for the gas and then put my wallet on the bumper(保险杠),and drove off. I hadn’t even had time to 39 it when my phone rang and an old man asked me 40 I had lost my wallet. I checked the 41 of my jacket and to my horror, I had. He asked me to tell him how much money was 42 it, and I told him. He then told me where to 43 my wallet.
As I drove into his driveway, I 44 that his car was for the 45 . I was thinking that there was no way this man could 46 get out of hid car and get my wallet off the 47 . He had to pull over, 48 in his wheelchair, lower the lift, and then pick it up, I was 49 .
I knocked on the 50 and he told me to come in. I thanked him like 10 times for 51 my wallet. While I didn’t want to make him angry by offering him 52 , I really felt like offering something. So I asked him if there was anything I could do to repay his 53 , and he said, “Just pass 54 on.” I really wanted to thank him, so I 55 promised I would.

“So teach him to close the door”, my daughter Emma responded after listening to me 36 , again, about the dog coming in from the back door, bringing with him a blast of Buffalo January 37 air.
Teach a dog to close a door behind him? That has got to be a really, really 38 thing to do.But then she took it a step 39 .“Come on, Kolby”, she said, grabbing some treats(犒劳物) and 40 him in front of the open door.“Touch.” And “touch” he did, which moved the door to a 41 position. She 42 him with a treat, smiled, looked at me, and said “see!” And I saw and became 43 .Over the last few days I have been with Kolby. Each time he comes in I bring him back to the 44 door and ask him to close. There have been 45 in the beginning, but lately more and more successes.
However, there remains much work to be done.I have to get him to follow my hand signal again and again 46 he will close the door from a distance. But, I now realize, as long as you keep to the focus , the 47 will be completed, and, with the way things are 48 , completed quickly.
What a 49 treat to have a dog that can close the door after himself! Even more wonder can be found in the 50 I learned so clearly from both Emma and Kolby.
A wish is just a wish until you decide to take 51 .Once you 52 the belief that it is “too hard”, then it remains “too hard ” and out of 53 .Once you want to accomplish a goal, and 54 that it is “easy”, then it becomes “easy” to do what needs to be done.Just 55 doing it.

查看习题详情和答案>> Recently I paid a visit to Harvard University, where there are top class scientists and professors and the best academic system in the world.
I was pretty shocked when I first stepped onto the campus. Well, it’s not even really a campus. It’s more like a district in a small town.
Harvard’s main buildings are from the 18th century. They look very old and simple. You might even say they’re a little shabby. They don’t fit the modern idea of university at all. The buildings are surrounded by grass and trees, so I felt as if I had walked into a medieval castle. But when I looked across the street, busy shops and in-fashion students made me feel like I was in the 21st century again. It creates a strong contrast(对照) and brings a special atmosphere to the school.
Our tour guide Gary took us around and told us, “You see this grass field in the center of the school? Here is where they host their graduation ceremony. They just set up tents and benches and have a very simple ceremony. Unbelievable! Who would think the most talented students just graduate on the lawn?”
I saw some students put a blanket on the grass and lie down to read a book. When I listened to the soft sound of pages turning, along with the chirping(鸟叫声) of the birds, I felt very calm. There was no competitive feeling at all.
Harvard has the world’s first computer in its science center and there are hundreds of high-end computers too. Its religion and the literature departments are also among the best. It is the perfect mix of tradition and new technology. It makes Harvard a very attractive place to study in.
I hope one day I’ll attend my dream school---Harvard.
