People of Burlington are being disturbed by the sound of bells. Four students from Burlington College of Higher Education are in the bell tower of the __26  and have made up their minds to __27  the bells nonstop for two weeks as a protest(抗议) against heavy trucks which run __28 through the narrow High Street.

“They not only make it __29  to sleep at night, but they are __30  damage to our houses and shops of historical __31  ,”said John Norris, one of the protesters.

“__32  we must have these noisy trucks on the roads,”said Jean Lacey, a biology student.“Why ?don't? they build a new road that goes __33   the town? Burlington isn't much more than a __34  village. Its streets were never __35   for heavy traffic.”

Many cancer patients are finding new hope in an unusual approach to cancer treatment. The common method has been developed by Carl Simonton, a specialist in the science of tumors.  1  can sometimes be "truly amazing," he says, when a cancer   2   lets his mind take part in the treatment.

Simonton remembers that his first patient might have been thought to be a "  3  ” case by some. "He was a sixty-one-year-old man with very severe throat cancer.  He had lost a great deal of weight. He could  4  swallow his own saliva and could eat no food.

"I taught him to  5   and mentally see his disease," Simonton says. "Then I had him  6   an army of white blood cells coming, attacking and  7  the cancer cells. The results of the treatment were both exciting and frightening. Within two weeks his cancer had noticeably become smaller and he was quickly gaining weight.       What an exciting day it was for Jennifer and Valerie! They had been friends since Grade Three and had   41   many of their high school experience.
