Hobbies are activities, which we do in our free time. There are so many types of hobbies one can choose for his or her own. Some hobbies are rather expensive, some are dangerous, some are very romantic, and some are very time-consuming.

The most common hobbies in our country are these:

Collecting hobbies

We can collect a lot of kinds of things --- usually people collect the stamps, postcards or badges. Some people collect unusual things like old cars, plain models, old motorbikes or other interesting things, which could be very expensive.

Art hobbies

Going to the theatre, concert, opera; playing some instrument; painting, writing, sculpturing, poetry, photography. There are many clubs—such as amateur dramatics, singing, dancing etc.

Sports, games[

Everybody do some sport activity—sport is healthy, keep us fit and keep our condition. Many students are members of a sports club—athletics, basketball, volleyball, swimming, handball and judo.

Family hobbies

For example traveling, mushrooming, many families have their cottages and people spend lots of time there.

The other rather popular hobby is watching TV or a video, playing computer or video games, but it is not so useful for your eyes and your mind. Many people here like to spend their leisure time reading books, magazines and newspapers. Some people prefer music to reading. Going out can be very expensive now.

Many students would like to make use of their hobbies in their future jobs, e.g. working with a computer etc, but it is not so easy. Hobbies are very important for everybody. A man would be very poor without a hobby and would not be satisfied.

请认真阅读下列短文,并根据短文的内容要点完成文章后的表格。
注意:补全填空应符合语法和搭配要求,每空只填一个单词。
The statement, "you can do anything you put your mind to," leads us to believe that all you must do is imagine what
you'd like to accomplish, set your mind to the task, and wait for success.
To a certain degree this is true.Focused intention combined with action is a powerful force. But the statement is
misleading because it fails to mention the difficulty and necessity of focusing your mind on a special goal.
Most of us don't know what we want.We think we do, but we really don't.we only know what we don't want.
We don't want a boring job.We don't want to be poor.We don't want to disappoint our loved ones.
Knowing specially what you want is much different from knowing what you don't want. When you only know what
you don't, your intentions aren't focused.Consider this example.
Pete doesn't want to be poor. He's sick of earning less than his friends, and he's determined to raise his position.
To accomplish this goal, Pete could take many different paths. He could train for a high paying profession. He could
start his own company, go into real estate, or do many other things that would lead to acquiring wealth.
But Pete isn't sure what he wants to do.He doesn't know which path best fits his skills and personality, so he doesn't
make a decision to follow any particular path.
Hoping to answer this question, he investigates a dozen possibilities, but as soon as he runs into adversity, he decides
that path isn't for him and moves on to a new solution.
Pete's actions aren't focused.Although he works very hard, his efforts don't build on each other rather than building
one giant inaccessible sand castle, Pete has built twenty small ones that are easy to collapse. He ends up confused and
discouraged. What's worse, Pete's lack of focus leads to failure.
What if Pete had chosen a specific path? A set of specific goals is much easier to achieve than an unclear goal like
becoming wealthy.Being focused on a path gives Pete a logical set of actions to follow. Each accomplishment is one
step closer to thefinal goal.
I think we can all agree that committing to a clearly defined path, regardless of which one, gives Pete the best chance
of becoming wealthy.
But how can he choose a path if he doesn't know what he wants? Maybe money isn't his only goal.Maybe he wants
to do something he loves at the same time.Maybe he can't afford to go back to school.Reality is complicated, and
Pete doesn't want to commit too soon. And that's why he failed.

Decisions, decisions! Our lives are full of them, from the small ones to the life-changing. The right to choose is central to everyone. Yet sometimes we make bad decisions that leave us unhappy or full of regret. Can science help?
Most of us know little about the mental processes that lie behind our decisions. Luckily, what psychologists(心理学家)are finding may help us all make better choices. Here are some of their amazing discoveries to help you make up your mind.
Consider your emotions. You might think that emotions are the enemy of decision making, but in fact they're a part of it. Whenever you make up your mind, your brain’s emotional center is active. University of Southern California scientist, Antonio Damasio, has studied people with damage to only the emotional parts of their brains, and found that they were unable to make basic choices about what to wear or eat. Damasio thinks this may be because our brains store emotional memories of past choices, which we use to help the present decision making.
However, making choices under the influence of an emotion can greatly affect the result. Take anger, for example. A study by Nitika Garg of the University of Mississippi and other scientists found the angry shoppers were more likely to choose the first thing they were offered rather than considering other choices. It seems anger can lead us to make quick decisions without much thinking.
All emotions affect our thinking and motivation(动机), so it may be best to avoid making important decisions under their influence. Yet strangely there’s one emotion that seems to help us make good choices. The American researchers found that sad people took time to consider the various choices on offer, and ended up making the best choices. In fact many studies show that people who feel unhappy have the most reasonable view of the world.

Listen carefully; we would like to tell you something that could save your precious time and money! Best of all, it is free! It’s “no”. What do you ask? We’ll say it again. “No”. Sweet and simple “no”.
Say “no” at your office and see how quickly that pile of work on your desk disappears. “Saying “no” to others means you are saying “yes” to yourself,” said Leslie Charles, a professional speaker from East Lansing, Michigan.
Susie Watson, a famous writer, said people who always say “yes” need to say “no” without guilt (内疚) or fear of punishment.  “I would rather have someone give me a loving ‘no’ than an obligated (强制的)‘yes’”, she said.
Susie Watson says she feels “no” obligation to give an explanation when she says “no” either socially or professionally. Does she feel guilty about it? “Not at all,” said Watson, who is director of advertising and public relations at Timex Corp in Middle-bury. “Most people are afraid of saying “no”. My advice is to say “yes” only if you don’t mean ‘no’.”
Watson said “no” is the most effective weapon against wasting time. “Every year there are more demands on your time. Other people are happy to use up your time,” Watson said. Time saving appears to be “no’s” greatest friend. “No” can be your new friend, a powerful tool to take back your life. “No” may even take you further in the business world than “yes”. “No” is power and strength. “No” now seems completely correct. “Saying ‘no’ isn’t easy. But finally it’s greatly liberating,” Charles said. But, he added, a “no” project needs to be worked on every day because it is hard to change long-term habit.
But, he also warns: “Don’t go to extremes.  Don’t find yourself saying “no” to everything. In return you should learn to hear “no”.”
53. The underlined part “saying ‘yes’ to yourself” in the second paragraph means ______.
A. you can have more time to play with others
B. you needn’t care about other’s feeling if you are happy
C. you are selfish and treat others rudely
D. you can deal with your business as you have planned
54. When you say “no” to others you should say it in a ______.
A. secret way     B. polite way         C. proud way        D. guilty way
55 In Watson’s opinion, people can save much time on condition that ______.
A. they say “no” at a suitable time        B. they say “no” as much as possible
C. they are afraid of saying “no”         D. they make others angry at them
56. If a person says “no” to everything, the result he or she receives may be that he or she _____.
A. enjoys a wonderful life              B. makes a lot of money
C. faces difficulty in life                D. forgets to say “yes” in the end

The world is filled with smart, talented, educated and gifted people. We meet them every day. A few days ago, my car was not running well. I pulled it into a garage and the young mechanic had it fixed in just a few minutes. He knew what was wrong by simply listening to the engine. I was amazed. The sad truth is, great talent is not enough.
I am constantly shocked at how little talented people earn. I heard the other day that less than 5 percent of Americans earn more than $100, 000 a year. A business consultant who specializes in the medical trade was telling me how many doctors and dentists struggle financially. It was this business consultant who gave me the phrase, “They are one skill away from great wealth.”
There is an old saying that goes, “Job means‘ just over broke (破产)' ”. And unfortunately, I would say that the saying applies to millions of people. Because school does not think financial intelligence is intelligence, most workers“ live within their means”. They work and they pay the bills. Instead I recommend to young people to seek work for what they will learn, more than what they will earn.
When I ask the classes I teach, “How many of you can cook a better hamburger than McDonald's?” almost all the students raise their hands. I then ask, “So if most of you can cook a better hamburger, how come McDonald's makes more money than you?” The answer is obvious: McDonald's is excellent at business systems. The reason so many talented people are poor is because they focus on bui1ding a better hamburger and know little or nothing about business systems. The world is filled with talented poor people. They focus on perfecting their skills at building a better hamburger rather than the skills of selling and delivering the hamburger.
【小题1】The author mentions the mechanic in the first paragraph to show that     .

A.he is just one of the talented people

A.They don't work hard enough.
