If you're a parent, especially the parent of a teenager, each day brings new joys and new frustrations(挫折). For many parents, a constant problem in the family home is dealing with a common teenager condition: complaining. You're probably so used to the steady stream of complaining that you may tend to ignore some of it.
But don't ignore everything. A study shows that teenagers with frequent physical complaints (that cannot be explained by known physical conditions) may be at risk for despair. The study calculated 1,015 teenagers (13 - 16 years old) and found that teens reporting physical discomfort (i.e., headaches or stomach pain) with unknown causes faced the possibility of fear attacks and major despair four years later. If you don't think these results are cause for concern, listen to this sad statistic : The suicide (自杀) rate for teenagers has increased by more than 200% over the last decade!
We should all listen more in general. Parenting is more than just telling your children . It's also about listening to what they have to say and what they're feeling. As this study suggests, seeming harmless physical complaints might be a sign of despair. And that probably is not all there that we have unnoticed in a teenager's life. As parents in a fast-paced business world, we care so little of our kid's feelings though we constantly throw a few words of comforting to them, we hardly put our heart into it. Before this starts brewing (酝酿) future trouble, give some more concern to our child.

A friend of mine named Paul received an expensive car from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shining car.“Is this your car, Paul?” he asked.
Paul answered, “Yes, my brother gave it to me for Christmas.”The boy was surprised.“You mean your brother gave it to you and it cost you nothing? Boy, I wish…”he hesitated.
Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for.He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the boy said surprised Paul greatly.
“I wish,” the boy went on, “that I could be a brother like that.”Paul looked at the boy ________, then he said again, “Would you like to take a ride in my car?”
“Oh yes, I’d love that.”
After a short ride, the boy turned and with his eyes shining, said, “Paul, would you mind driving in front of my house?”
Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the boy wanted. He wanted to show his neighbours that he could ride home in a big car.But Paul was wrong again.“Will you stop where those two steps are?” the boy asked.
He ran up to the steps. Then in a short while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast.He was carrying his little crippled brother. He sat him down on the step and pointed to the car.
“There she is, Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn’t cost him a cent. And some day I’m going to give you one just like it…then you can see for yourself all the nice things in the Christmas windows that I’ve been trying to tell you about.”
Paul got out and lifted the boy to the front seat of his car.The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began an unforgettable holiday ride.

Many students want to find friends on the Internet as a way of practising their language skills and learning more about new cultures. Traditional pen pals were the primary source for such contacts, and students could write each other letters. With the Internet, fingding friends has become much easier, and such relationships are called key pals.
However, care and consideration should be given when finding friends on the Internet:
◎Search the Internet for reputable(有信誉的) services. Look for reviews of such sites to learn more about other students’ experiences. Don’t join a service until you have done your research.
◎Check to see if you can use a nickname, instead of __________, to protect your identity.
◎Never give personal information to anyone, including your home address, phone number, and birthday.
◎Stop contact with others if you feel uncomfortable with the topics of conversation. Again, if you protect your identity, this will be easier to do. Tell your teachers, parents, or even local law enforement if problem arise.
◎Try to use the language you are studying in the classroom in your communication with others.
◎Ask appropriate questions that will also help you learn about other cultures. Remember that someone’s personal experience might help you to understand a whole culture. You have to talk to many different people, and this will get you started.
