摘要: use 50. task 51. students 52. how 53. lot [书面理解] One possible version: Recently I made a survey of Senior 3 students on physical training. Only 35% of the surveyed students do sports. There are many reasons for this. Half of the students say they have too much homework and have no enough time to take exercise. 30% of them complain that they have no places where they can relax themselves and that there not enough training facilities. 10% feel that they live too far away from the places and some even don’t know how to take exercise. Because of lack of physical activities, many students are in poor health. We should realize the importance of taking exercise, and measures should be taken to improve the present situation.

Forests have always been useful and important to man who makes use of them in many ways. Every day trees are serving man everywhere. Trees supply man with fruits and building materials in the form of wood. Without trees it would be impossible to build houses, boats, bridges and so on. Furniture such as desks, chairs and beds is made of wood. Trees can stop man from terrible heat. They're also useful in preventing good and rich top soil from being washed away during heavy rains.

If there were no trees, heavy rains would wash away the rich top soil that is so important to plants. The result is that the land will become a desert. A long time ago these desert areas used to be very rich areas, but man in the past had no enough knowledge about science of nature, they cut down too many trees in the area where they lived and never planted new ones. A pill,code-named HT-0712,may make forgetfulness a thing of the past. It is being developed in the US and could go on sale within five years.

According to the newspaper The Sun,the wonder drug has been nicknamed “Mind Viagra”and has already been shown to boost the memory power of mice and flies. Next it will be tested on humans. This is just one of a number of drugs in a pharmaceutical (制药的) race to develop an increased memory pill. At least 12 US companies are believed to be working on similar projects.

Tim Tully, the founder of US drug company Helicon Therapeutics, who is in charge of the HT-0712 project, gave this practical example of its use for students:“If it takes two weeks to memorize a verse of Shakespeare, with one of these drugs you might be able to do it in two or three days. ”

“The memory drug business appears to be set to become a multi-million dollar industry,”experts say. This summer,100 Americans suffering mild memory loss will test HT-0712 in the first experiment on people.

“You don’t think better than you did before, you just get the facts in with less practice. There is a growing belief that memory and memory loss is just another treatable condition,”says Tully.

However, there is some doubt whether the drugs can really improve memory. In a study by the US’s Yale University Medical School, researchers suggested that the drug might affect other parts of the memory.

A.They will grow taller.

B.They can memorize things easily.

C.They won’t suffer from illness.

D.They will choose whatever universities they like.

3.The future of HT-0712 can be said according to experts.

A.dim B.uncertain C.bright D.worried

4.HT-0712 is a pill that .

A.has bad effect on the health of mice and flies

B.has been experimented on dozens of animals

C.will be experimented on humans this summer

D.is certain to do no harm to human

5.The purpose of writing the passage is to .

III 阅读(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给A、B、C和D项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
Advertising in America offers some great advantages to consumers. For example, in order to keep prices low through mass production, companies must have a mass market for their products. Mass advertising creates mass markets. Producers cannot afford to develop new products, put them on the market and wait for customers to discover them. This would take too long. Demand for some products must be created. This is done through advertising.
But advertising sometimes makes it difficult for consumers to make wise decisions. The fact is that when people are constantly flooded with messages through the mass media persuading them to buy particular products, many respond by buying them.
Advertising is designed to influence an individual to buy a product. Sellers often study human behavior to discover what will convince consumers to buy a certain item. This reason for buying is called a buying motive.
Buying motives are usually broken down into two categories: rational and emotional. Rational buying motives include the desire to save money, the desire for comfort, or the desire for good workmanship. Emotional buying motives include buying out of fear, wanting to be liked, and wanting to have something better than your friends have.
Emotional appeals are found in most consumer advertising today. Certain cars promise to make the driver feel "younger" and " freer". Shoes promise to make the buyer's whole life "springier". Life insurance policies promise to take the "care out of living".
Most consumers believe that they are not easily influenced by emotional appeals. However, corporations that sell consumer products obviously think differently. They spend many millions of dollars every day on radio, television, newspaper and magazine ads that use these appeals.
1. It can be inferred from the passage that one of the advantages of advertising for consumers is that ________.
A. it can create a big demand for consumer goods

 C. producers can introduce new products to consumers
 D. it helps consumers discover new products

 A. many advertisements are too difficult for them to understand
 B. they are afraid to be taken in by dishonest advertisements
 C. mass advertising offers them a range of good and cheap products
 D. they are confused by the quantity of advertisements promoting it
3. According to the passage, a toothpaste ad promising that people who use the product will make a lot of friends is an example of an ad that appeals to __________ .
 A. rational buying motives                              B. the consumer's commonsense
 C. emotional buying motives                          D. the desire for a good product
4. The reason why companies spend enormous amounts of money on advertising is that ________ .
 A. they believe people can be influenced to buy a certain produce
B. it takes a lot of advertising to convince people to buy a certain product
 C. most consumers are not easily influenced by emotional appeals
 D. advertising based on emotional appeals are very effective
5. The best title for this passage would be ________ .
 A. Advertising can create demand                   B. The advantages of advertising
 C. What effective advertising can do               D. The role of advertising in selling products
