D As more Americans go to mainland China to take jobs.more Chinese and Americans are working side by side. These cross-cultural partnerships.while beneficial in many ways.are also highlighting tensions that expose differences in work experience.pay levels and communication. In the last few years.a growing number of Americans in their 20s and 30s have been heading to China for employment.attracted by its faster-growing economy and lower jobless rate. Their Chinese co-workers are often around the same age.But the two groups were raised differently. The Americans have had more exposure to free-market principles.“Young Americans were brought up in a commercial environment. said Neng Zhao.28.a senior associate at Blue Oak Capital.a private firm based in Beijing.“We weren't.So the workplace is a unique learning process for my generation. Confucianism and Communism.which play a part in their country’s culture and economy. I am terrible oh TV.I don't sit straight and I don't talk clearly. It bothers, because I know inside I am smart, sensitive and sincere.Television can make any fool look like an intellectual, but I come over as dishonest. After a disastrous TV show last year, when I called the interviewer by the wrong name, I was reluctant to do broadcasting again.

Now, I will have my first novel out next month, which is called Do It Again, and the advertising people tell me I must go on TV to promote it.That is why I find myself practising my television interviewing technique with two consultants from Public Image Ltd.

“He blinks(眨眼)a lot, doesn't he?” says Diana, the speech specialist, studying my image on a video monitor.“And his crossed legs look defensive. But the voice isn't bad.” Jeannie, who is introduced to me as Public Image's image consultant, takes a step backwards to study the general posture.“Needs to get his bottom back in the sofa. And the jacket makes him look a bit deformed.Where does he get his clothes from?”

“Honesty is the most important thing,” Says Diana.“We don't want to turn people into actors. We want to bring out their personality. Then most importantly, there are the three E's:Energy, Enthusiasm and Enjoyment. And do try to stop blinking.”

And so our practice interview begins.“So, what can you tell us about your book, Martyn?” “Umm…” A long pause.“Errr…” A longer pause.“Tee hee, hargh…” A foolish giggle.“All right,” says Diana patiently, “We'll try that again.” We try it again, many, many times, each time trying to solve a different problem that I have.On the second run-through, my crossed legs keep moving up and down, which makes me look as if I want to run away(I do, I do).On the third run they are uncrossed, but my hands are clenched on my lap.On the fourth my hands are fiddling with my ears.

But Diana is patient and gives me a lot of advice. She is very good at her job because on the final run-through, after three hours or so, I really don't look too bad.Steady gaze, breathing clear and no blinking. Not perfect but not bad.

I'm bursting with energy, enthusiasm and enjoyment and I'm talking a lot of nonsense, but you'd hardly notice. When you watch people on TV, you'll see a lot more just like me.

Maybe it is true that we do not know what we have got until we lose it, but it is also true that we do not know what we have been missing until it arrives.
It takes an hour to like someone, and a day to love someone, but it takes a lifetime to forget someone. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Do not expect love in return; but if it does not, be content it has grown in yours. Do not rely on one’s appearance; it can trick you. Do not rely on wealth; even that fades away. Rely on someone who makes you smile, because it takes only a smile to make a dark day seem bright.
There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them. Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. You cannot go on well in life until you let your past failures and heartaches go off. May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trails to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human, enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people do not necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. Happiness waits for those who cry, those appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives. Always put yourself in others’ shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you are the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

Back those photos up

The images were striking. Homes on the East Coast were washed away by Superstorm Sandy. People were in tears, picking up faded photographs, among their only remaining possessions.

If that doesn’t move you to get serious about safekeeping your lifetime of memories, what will? The digital age offers tools never imaginable before—including one-click access to a lifetime of family photos.

Here is a brochure on how to back up (存) your photos and save them online, where they can live forever and be accessible in good times and bad.

Scanning

The first step for those old photos is to scan them and save them to a digital format. Most printers come with scanners these days, so that’s an easy but extremely time-consuming step.

Storing the photos

With your scans in place, import the photos into your computer, and back them up.

You could make multiple copies of the disks and spread them to loved ones. Or you could choose external(外接的) hard drives or USB thumb drive, and add your photo and video collection from your computer.

Online backup

If you need lots of space, look at a pure online backup service, Caronite.

Caronite backs up 300 million files daily. Once you sign up, it starts to pick up everything you have on your hard drive. But photo collection on your computer’s main hard drive charges for $59 a year.

Cloud Storage

For folks who don’t need automatic backup, but instead want to take a more active approach, Dropbox, Google Drive and Microsoft’s SkyDrive let you store files online by yourself, share and instantly access them. All offer free options—2GB of free storage for Dropbox, 5GB for Google and 7GB for SkyDrive. But if you want more, you need to pay.

Bottom Line

The hard drive or flash drive is the cheapest and easiest. But drives can fail. Online services are more expensive, but more secure. With more of us switching back and forth between our computers, such services are the best way to get access to our data from wherever we are.

1.Why does the author mention Superstorm Sandy?

A.To tell the background of the scanning photos.

B.To attract the readers’ interest in the backups.

C.describe a severe natural disaster.

D.To win the readers’ sympathy.

2.What can we know from the passage?

A.Scanning photos takes little time but costs a lot.

B.Caronite charges for backing up photos from hard drive.

C.Google Drive offers unlimited free photo storage on line.

D.The hard drive or flash drive is the cheapest and safest.

3.Which of the following allows storing files automatically?

A.Caronite.          B.Dropbox.          C.SkyDrive.          D.Flash drive.

4.What’s the passage mainly about ?

A.tell real stories about storage services

B.introduce some of the storage services

C.describe the functions of storage services

D.argue about the advantage of storage services

A few days ago I got a call from my old college friend whom I haven’t seen for a very long time. The topic, which was about all the good old times that we had changed to a touching story when he started talking about his father.
His father’s declining health made him stay at the hospital. Because of his illness, his father suffered from insomnia (失眠) and often talked to himself. My friend, who had not been able to sleep for a few days as he had to keep watching his father’s condition, became annoyed and told his father to keep silent and try to get some sleep. His father said that he really wanted to sleep well because he was very tired and told my friend to leave him alone in the hospital if he did not want to keep him company.
After his father finished talking, he fell unconscious (失去知觉). My friend was very sorry for speaking the ill words towards his father. My friend, whom I knew as a tough person, cried as a baby on the other end of the telephone. He said that from that moment on, he prayed every day, asking God to let his father wake up from his coma. He promised himself that whatever words came out from his father’s mouth after he regained his consciousness, he would gladly take them. His only hope for God was to give him a chance to rectify his past mistake.
Often, we complain when we have to accompany or watch over our parents for years, months, days, hours or even minutes. But do we realize that our parents keep us company and watch over us for as long as we (or they) live? From the day we were born to our adulthood, and even when deaths come to us, they are always at our side.
Imagine how sad our parents will be when they hear a seemingly innocent (天真无邪的)word of “no” come out from our mouths. We can make promises to ourselves that from now on there will be no more complaints that come out from our mouths when we have to watch over or accompany our parents. No more complaints come out from our mouths when we feel that our parents have treated us like little children. There are so many unlucky ones who have neither fathers nor mothers. They long to have the things that we most complain about, but never have them.
Actually, it takes only a second to think and light the lamp that will bring us to a place where peace is dwelling.
