Some inventions are so useful, but seem so simple, that we wonder why no one thought of them long ago. Post-it Notes—the pieces of pa per that you can fasten almost anywhere and then remove without leaving any sign that they were there—are an example of such an invention.
Post-it Notes were invented about twenty years ago by Art Fry, a scientist at 3M Corporation. The idea for the product came from a frustrating(令人沮丧的) experience he often had while singing in his church choir(唱诗班) . Fry used pieces of paper as bookmarks to mark the places in his book of songs, but these bookmarks were always falling out. He knew he needed a bookmark that would stay where he put it, but that he could remove without damaging the pages.
Around the time Fry lard about a new adhesive (粘合剂) that a (同事) , Dr. Spence Silver, had created. This adhesive was special because it was sticky, but not too sticky. It was strong enough to hold papers together, but weak enough not to tear the paper when it was removed. Fry saw that the new adhesive could help solve his bookmark problem. One morning, Fry put some of the adhesive on the edge of a piece of paper. Just as he hoped, it made a perfect bookmark.
Fry and some other people at 3M believed so much in the new product that they persuaded the company to give away thousands of the “sticky pieces of paper” for trial use. When some salespeople at 3M went to offices and showed workers just how helpful the new type of notes could be, they immediately received many orders. As more and more people discovered how useful Post-it Notes could be, the product took off.

While the artificial (man－made) hand is considerably less useful than the natural one, there may be some jobs that it can do more efficiently. From time to time we have to do rather difficult jobs and feel that one of our fingers is getting in the way. It is possible that on these occasions a specially designed artificial limb(肢体) would be more efficient.
Scientists are now studying ways of increasing the power of the human limb, or rather, of its muscles. A machine under development, known as a “man－amplifier(放大器)” consists of a framework which the operator wears. Every movement he makes is repeated by the steel framework he is wearing, but the power which moves the parts of the frame comes from hydraulic(水力的) motors. If the operator bends down to pick something up, the work is done not by his own weak muscles but by the hydraulic motors, which makes it possible for him to lift 450 kilograms in each hand.
Another machine called a “HardiMan” has two arms and hands which repeat every movement of the operator's arms and hands, but with much more strength. In this device(装置) the operator controls the movements directly. But just as the operations of a distant unmanned spaceship circling the moon can be controlled by radio signals, so also such devices could be radio－controlled. An astronaut exploring an unknown planet could send out a robot which would do the job for him and send back information. Will the day ever come when the machine, more powerful than man and controlled by a computer brain, takes over from its human inventor?

your study habits and you'll be amazed by the results.
Act Fast
The most important rule about dealing with disappointing grades is to act fast. Don't sit around and let
them get worse, and definitely don't ignore them. Instead, admit that you need help and go in search of it
soon. The faster you face up to the problem, the faster you can find a solution and see some results.
Tweak your routine
If you are studying hard and still dealing with disappointing grades, it's probably time to tweak your
routine a little. Remember, if you keep doing the same thing all the time you'll undoubtedly keep getting the
same results. Mix things up by asking for help, whether from a friend or fellow student, your teacher or a
private tutor. Ask for help with the subject matter and tips for studying on your own.

Make sure that you are studying successfully by:

*Looking over your notes from class.
*Taking new notes while you study.
*Investing in study guides.
*Answering all of the review questions you can find.
*Talking through events or concepts that are integral (整体) to your lessons.
Learn From Your Mistakes
If, after all of your changes and redoubling your study efforts, you are still disappointed with your grades,
then it is time to figure out exactly where you are going wrong. Look over exam papers and assignments to
see if you are having trouble with a particular kind of question (multiple choice, true or false, etc.) or concept.
Examine your essays to see if you are explaining your ideas clearly and completely, or if it is the mechanics
of your writing (spelling, grammar, etc.) that is letting you down. Request an appointment with your teacher
and use this time to discuss your work and get his/her feedback as well.
Dealing with disappointing grades is something that every student will face at one time or another. It won't
be fun, but take a realistic look at your attention in class, your study habits and your performance on past
assignments and exam. Figure out where you are having trouble and dedicate yourself to fixing these problems.
