When I was young,my parents ran a snack bar in our small town.
One evening in early April,my mother told me to fill in at the snack bar 36¡¡ a worker who had the flu.I told her I would mess it up, 37 I had never worked at the bar before.I ¡¡38¡¡
that instead of making money,I would end up owing it.
¡°You can do it,¡±said my mother.¡°¡¡ 39¡¡ ,you won¡¯t get much business until lunch.¡±
¡°But I¡¯ll never remember the orders,and I¡¯m no good ___40_ money.Please,Mom,don¡¯t
¡¡ 41¡¡ me.¡±
¡°Then I¡¯ll help you,¡±she said.
I shrugged my shoulders.I thought my mother¡¯s¡¡¡¡ 42¡¡¡¡ was a bad one,but I ¡¡¡¡ 43¡¡¡¡ .
When I got to the bar the next day,I found my mother was¡¡ 44¡¡ .Because the weather that day was rainy and cold, people wanted hot snacks and drinks.¡¡ 45¡¡ ,I was really slow at taking the orders and making change. The line of people grew, and everybody seemed¡¡ 46¡¡ .I was so nervous that my hands shook, and I ¡¡ 47 a cup into pieces. What a mess! Then my mother came to¡¡ 48 me,and she also showed me how to make¡¡ 49¡¡ .If someone gave me $5 for something that cost $3.25,I handed over¡¡ 50¡¡ quarters and a dollar and said,¡°75 cents makes four dollars, plus one dollar makes five.¡±Things went more¡¡ 51¡¡ after that.
By the end of the day,I could remember orders,¡¡ 52¡¡ the bill, and make change quickly with a smile.I was even a little¡¡ 53¡¡ when the sun came out and dried up business. My mother said she was proud of me,and when she¡¡ 54¡¡ that I work at the snack bar again next year,I did not even shrug.I was too busy¡¡ 55¡¡ the restaurant I would open one day.

¡¡¡¡I played a racquetball game against my cousin Ed last week. It was one of the most 1 and tiring games I've ever had. When Ed first phoned and 2 we play. I laughed quietly, figuring on an 3 victory all. Ed's idea of 4 has always been nothing more 5 than lifting a fork to his mouth, 6 I can remember, Ed's been the least physically fit member in the family, and 7 proud of himself. His big stomach has always ballooned out between his T-shirt and trousers. Although the family often 8 about that I'd refused to buy a 9 T-shirt or to lose weight. So when Ed 10 for our game not only with the bottom of his shirt gathered inside his trousers but also with a stomach you could hardly 11 , I was so surprised that I was 12 . My cousin must have made an effort to get himself into shape. 13 , at the point in our game when I'd have predicted (Ô¤¼Æ) the score to be about 9 to 1 in my favor, it was 14 7 to 9 and Ed was 15 . The sudden realization was painful. We 16 to play like two mad men. When the score was 16 up. I was having serious 17 about staying alive until 21 years old, let alone 18 that many points. When the game finally ended, both of us were lying flat on our backs, too tired to 19 . In a way, I think we both won. I the game, but cousin Ed my 20

I ran across a dim photo of him the other day £¬going through old thing . He¡¯s been dead for 25 years . His name was Rex.
¡¡ 1 was his favourite recreation . He had as much ¡¡ 2 in the water as any person I have known . You didn¡¯t have to throw a stick in the water to ¡¡3¡¡ ¡¡him to go in . Of course , he would bring back a stick to you if you ¡¡4¡¡ throw one in
That ¡¡5 me of the night , ¡¡6¡¡ he brought back a small chest that he found somewhere how 7 nobody ever knew . Since it was Rex , it ¡¡8¡¡ easily have been half a mile . The chest wasn¡¯t a good one . It was just a ¡¡ 9 old piece that somebody ¡¡ 10 . Still , it was something he wanted , probably 11 it presented a nice problem in transportation . It tested his courage . We first knew about his achievement when , when ,deep in the night , we 12¡¡ him trying to get the chest up onto the porch . It sounded ¡¡13 two or three people were trying to tear the house ¡¡14 . We came downstairs and turned on the 15 light . Rex was on the top step trying to pull the thing up, but it had ¡¡16¡¡ somehow and he was just holding his own . I suppose he would have held his own ¡¡17¡¡ dawn if we hadn¡¯t helped him. The next day we carted the chest miles away and threw it out . If we had thrown it out in a ¡¡18¡¡ place , he would have brought it home again , as a small token of his strength in such matters . ¡¡19 ,he had been taught to carry wooden objects about and he was ¡¡ 20¡¡ of his skill .

My husband and I both work at home. We have four children, so the times when I am 36 in the house are few. Like many work-at-home moms, when I do get a 37 to be by myself, I fill that time with more 38 , whether it¡¯s related to my career or taking care of the housework . Most of the time, I don¡¯t mind. 39 , I wanted this job as wife and mother, and I knew from the start that it often 40 putting others¡¯ needs before my own. But, other times, I can¡¯t help but feel a little 41 because I seldom had any plans for myself, and everyone knew it. My life 42 on my family, but they seldom appreciated this, which often ¡¡43 me a lot.
One day, when the kids were at school, I 44 for the movie theater-alone, I¡¯d ¡¡45 been to the movies alone before, so I was a little nervous. Would I look pitiful going to the theater by myself? Was I being ridiculous(»ÄÌÆ¿ÉЦ) by seeing a movie ¡¡46 so much work waited for me at home? I 47 myself to swallow these ¡¡48 and bought myself a ticket. And then I walked into the theater with my 49 held high and enjoyed every minute of the movie. I laughed and felt my good spirits 50 for a couple of hours, I was ¡¡51 wife or mother. I was just myself.
From that point on, I 52 that Fridays would be mine, ¡¡53 for a couple of hours. Some Fridays, I head to(ǰÍù) the beach with a good book. Other Fridays, I go shopping, 54 up a little fast food or some clothes just for myself. I really 55 my Fridays after a long week of caring of my family.
