It’s normal to wake briefly during the night. 1 But if you’re waking up during the night and having trouble falling back asleep, the following tips may help.
Stay out of your head. The key to getting back to sleep is continuing to prepare your body for sleep, so remain in bed in a relaxed position. Hard as it may be, try not to stress over the fact that you’re awake , because that very stress and anxiety encourage your body to stay awake. 2
3 If you are finding it hard to fall back asleep, try a relaxation technique such as visualization, deep breathing, or meditation, which can be done without even getting out of bed. Remind yourself that although they’re not a replacement for sleep, rest and relaxation still help refresh your body.
Do a quiet, non-stimulating activity. If you’ve been awake for more than 15 minutes, try getting out of bed and doing a quiet, non-stimulating activity, such as reading a book. Keep the lights dim so as not to think that it’s time to wake up. 4 A light snack might help relax you, but be careful not to eat so much that your body begins to expect a meal at that time of the day.
5 If you wake during the night feeling anxious about something, make a brief note of it on paper and postpone worrying about it until the next day when you are fresh and it will be easier to resolve.

I live in Japan, where electronic items are a way of life, so it is no surprise that many students carry these little electronic dictionaries. E-dictionaries may be lighter and compacter (简洁的) than any paper dictionary. 1. However, to me, these are pretty much the limits to their advantages.
I think e-dictionaries should be limited in their use in classrooms. 2.
E-dictionaries are much more expensive. In Japan, they cost as little as 10,000 yen(US$100)much as 40,000 yen, depending on how many functions you want (or think you want) and depending on how fashionable you are. My trusty Random House paper dictionary is copyrighted at1995, cost me a mere US$12.95 plus tax.
E-dictionaries are more fragile. Drop your paper dictionary. Go ahead. Hold it above your head and drop it. 3.
E-dictionaries need batteries. Batteries are temperature sensitive. Batteries cost money, too.
E-dictionaries have keypads. Typing in the spelling of a word is harder and more time consuming than looking through pages and using the index at the top of each page.
4. Sound . Little devices beep (嘟嘟声) when you press the buttons, but it is very disturbing to some people in a classroom situation or library.
Finally, let’s consider making corrections or additions. No dictionary is perfect, paper version or electronic. However, when you find something you’d like to change in the e-dictionary, you can’t do anything about it. You can pencil in some notes with the paper type. Similarly, if you learn a word that isn’t in the dictionary, a few notes of a pencil make it easy to increase its memory capacity. 5.And, for those students whose habit is to mark certain words with a highlight pen for ease of future reference, again, the paper dictionary wins out.
|
A.But it is impossible to do so with a keypad model. |
|
B.They may even contain more words and expressions. |
|
C. Let me add a statement about one that really troubles me. |
|
D.Now, try this with any lightweight plastic e-dictionary, and you’ll be picking up the pieces. |
E.That huge, heavy paper dictionary that you see in your library looks like a building block in size and weight.
F.E-dictionaries have advantages as well as disadvantages.
G.Let’s take a look at the following reasons.

A.Make posters and signs catchy and helpful |
|
B.Build your network and remind them to vote |
|
C.Be confident in yourself all the time |
|
D.Give a great speech with full preparations |
E.What if I don’t win?
F.You can win as long as you try your best
G.Determine your issues and keep your promises
Convincing people to vote for you is probably the scariest part of an election. The best strategy is to show your fellow students that you will do a good job.How do you do this?
61._________________________________________
Think about why you want to run and what you want to do if you win. These are your issues. Then let people know what you will do if elected. When you do this, be careful not to make promises you can’t keep.Make sure your issues affect all students. If you promise to try to get the whole school painted your favourite color, students probably won’t vote for you. But, if you promise to get rid of that yucky(令人反感的)lunch menu item that no one likes, or raise money for more computers in the library, students will see that you are interested in things they care about, and they’ll vote for you.
62.____________________________________________
Keep it short, simple, and interesting, and students will remember you.Start by writing down your issues and the reasons you think you’re a good person for the job. This is the heart of the speech and will convince other students to vote for you.Start with a story to get people listening and then move on to your issues.Practice your speech so you get used to it, and you won’t be as nervous.Ask your parents or friends to listen a couple of times before the big day. When the time comes to give your speech, relax. You’ll be ready and the other students will notice.
63._____________________________________________
One of the best ways to get people to vote for you is to talk to them about it.Ask your friends to help.In many elections, people don’t vote at all.If you take the time to talk to them ,and remind them to vote, you’ll increase your chances of winning.Remind them why you’re running, and why they should vote for you. They’ll appreciate that you took the time to talk to them in person. And they’ll probably remember your name on the ballot(选票)!
64._____________________________________________
When you make your campaign posters, use a catchy slogan that helps other students remember your name.It can help you win votes. If you have trouble coming up with a catchy slogan, try searching the Internet.Don’t depend solely on posters.Your fellow students have to know why you’re running, and that’s why your speech and networking are so important.
65._______________________________________________
If you keep these things in mind, you can win your election.Just remember that you have to be prepared to work hard to help your fellow students improve your school.
If you don’t win, remember there are always other ways to get involved and make a difference. If students see that you get things done, you could easily win the next time.
