A Thirsty World
Three-fourths of the earth’s surface is covered by water, some of which is frozen and most of which is salty. In fact, less than one percent left for all the living things.
Now fresh water is becoming scare, but more and more is needed because of the increasing number of people. Some industries also use amounts of fresh water in the production of things such as steel, paper, and rubber. These factories have polluted water flow into rivers without making it clean. What’s more, people in the city have much dirtied water piped into ditches after cooking every day.
Scientists estimate that the need for fresh water will have doubled by the year 2003. This means that we must find new ways of saving it or producing it. Some nations have worked on the problem and are already sharing their information with others. They are trying to keep their rivers from being polluted. Deep wells are also being dug, and rainwater is being collected in huge artificial lakes. In one way or another, they hope to provide enough water to satisfy the needs of their people. For example, one important wayof producing water is to distill(用蒸馏法提取) it from sea water. After the salt has been removed, sea water can be used not only for drinking but also for industry and irrigation. However, the equipment for distillation process is very expensive. Distilled water might be as dear as gold if pollution goes on.

Getting up early has been regarded as a good habit since ancient times．Many years ago, people thought that if we went to bed early and got up early, we would be energetic the whole day．So, getting up early is of great importance to us all．

In fact, morning is the best time of a day．In the morning, the air is the freshest and people are usually in the best conditions．Many of us may have the experiences that we memorize some things more quickly and accurately in the morning than at any other time of the day．If we do some morning exercise or only take a short walk in the morning, we can build our bodies and become much healthier．Also we will have enough time to make a plan and get ready for our work or study of the day if we get up early．However, if we get up late, we'll probably have to do everything in a great hurry．

Let us remember getting up early is a good habit and try our best to keep it．If we stick to getting up early every day, we will certainly benefit a lot from it．

This is a story that happened in a school campus. One day, after school was over, Peter was taking a walk in the school campus, singing very happily. When he passed by a water tap(水龙头), he found that water was still running.Someone forgot to turn it off although it was the easiest thing for him to turn it off, and he should have done so，he seemed not to have noticed it and went on walking as if nothing was happening there.   
Just then, Mary was passing by and noticed that. Who left the water running after using it? she thought to herself.
