No more batteries,no more chargers and no more wires. This is the future promised by  "wireless power".a means of broadcasting electricity through the air to laptops,iPods and other gadgets(小器具)without the need for cables and sockets(插座).

Wireless lighting, audio speakers and digital picture frames are expected to be among the first commercial products exhibited in Las Vegas this week at the International Consumer Electronics Show, the world's biggest gadgets tradeshow.

Experts believe this is just the beginning and that eventually wireless electricity could do for battery life what WiFi(局域网)did for,the Internet. In a world without wires, laptop users in cafes and airport terminals(终点站)would be inside an "electricity hotspot" and no longer have to delve an awkwardly located socket.

"You'd be able to buy.a desk that charged any gadget placed on it, or power any PC you put on top," said James Holland, editor of gadgets website Eleetricpig.co.uk."If each room had wireless power, you'd know that once you walked through the front door your nmbile would start charging up―even while still in your bag or pocket. You'd never need to hunt for the right charger again."

Among the companies showcasing the ambitions technology at CES is Power Beam. Its system turns electricity into an invisible laser, then beams(传播) it as heat, across the room to a solar cell that conveys it back into dectricity.

David Graham, the co-founder of Power Beam, said:"We're going to delete the word  'recharge' from the English dictionary. If your, cell phone is recharging on your desk.all day,you won't be thinking about.it." The Silicon Valley company can currently use a laser to generate about 1.5 watts of power to_ a solar.cell 10 meters away. This, sould be enough to power an electronic speaker or small LED(二极管) lights, but not enough to operate a laptop, which requires about 30 to 50 watts. However,Graham said that the technology could comfortably be scaled up(提高).

Power Beam insists its laser does not lead to a risk to users' health because it is simply moving heat from one place to another.Graham said that,if someone walked through the beam,it would shut down within a thousandth of a second, then restart once the path is clear. The technology also promises because it would only power products when needed.

61.What does the writer want to tell us in the passage?

A.A wireless instrument used for charging.

No more batteries, no more chargers and no more wires. This is the   1   promised by “wireless power”, a means of broadcasting   2   through the air to laptops, iPods and other machines without the need for cables and sockets.

Wireless lighting, audio speakers and digital picture frames are expected to be among the first commercial products to be   3   to the public.

Experts believe that wireless electricity will   4   change the way in which we live. In a world without wires your machine would start   5   electricity as soon as you entered the room.

You would no longer have to   6   mobile phones running out of power because once you walked through the front door your mobile would start charging up – even while still in your bag or pocket. You’d never need to hunt for the right   7  again.

The technology works by turning electricity into an invisible laser (激光), then sends it across the room to a battery that   8   it back into electricity.

Currently the laser can only create enough electricity to power a small light about 10 meters away but experts say both the power and   9   will quickly increase.

The technology also  10    to save energy because it would only power products when needed.

More than seven hundred students will serve for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games not as volunteers but as interns(实习生), working for months before the event and during the Games to help ensure its success.

A co-operation agreement was signed between the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (GOCOG) and 16 Beijing-based universities and colleges. The schools will prepare the students to be interns.

Although the interns will work without pay, they are considered different to volunteers, who will also provide services for the Games.

Well-known schools such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Beijing Normal University and Beijing Jiaotong University are included on the list.

The interns will work much longer than the Games’ volunteers, since they have to begin their work at BOCOG as early as one year before the Games start, while most of the volunteers work only during the 16 days of the Games. They have to finish the required lessons of their universities first and then learn more in their specialities to qualify to work for the BOCOG. They will take some special classes on Olympic knowledge and certain professional lessons outside the university to meet the needs of serving in the Olympics.

The 706 interns will be made up of 446 postgraduates, 118 undergraduates and 142 higher vocational students. They will come from such majors as foreign languages, media and communications, logistics and legal affairs.

According to university officials, the undergraduates will be students who have been admitted to college this year (2005) while the postgraduates will be those who enter next year.

The interns will be chosen from __________.

A.students whose homes are in Beijing          B.students studying in Beijing

C.only 6 famous schools                      D.schools all over China

What’s the difference between the interns and the volunteers?

A.The volunteers receive no pay.             B.The interns work during the Games.

C.The volunteers come mainly from universities. D.The interns provide longer, more specialized services.

The chosen students will be busy because they have to __________.

A.learn both in and outside the university     B.graduate ahead of time

C.look for part-time jobs                  D.learn many extra subjects at college

A chosen undergraduate will begin to work for BOCOG __________.

A.in his or her first college year            B.in his or her second college year

C.in his or her third college year                  D.in his or her fourth college year

No one really knows how and why people change as they get older. Also, no theory sufficiently explains all the changes of the aging process. Aging is a complex and varied process that varies in how it affects different people and organs. In fact, even in one person , different organ systems “age “ at a different rate.

At a certain point in our lives our body systems will begin to weaken . It may become more difficult for us to see and hear. The slow change of aging causes our bodies to lose some of their ability to bounce back from disease and injury. In order to live longer , we have always tried to slow or stop this change that leads us toward the end of our lives.

Many factors decide our health . A good diet plays an important role. The amount and the type of exercise we get are another two factors. Our living condition is yet another. But scientists studying the aging problem want to know: Why do people grow old? They hope that by studying the aging medical science they may be able to make the length of life longer.

There is nothing to be afraid of as the old age comes. Many consider the later part of life to be the best time for living. Physical activity may become less, but often we get better understanding of the world and ourselves.

What we consider the old age now may only be middle-aged some day soon. Who knows ,with so many advances in medical science happening so quickly, life length may one day be measured in centuries ,rather than in years!

The underlined phrase “bounce back ”means “__________.”

   A. jump backward     B. run fast    C. prevent     D. recover

In order to make people live longer, scientists _______according to the text.

   A. teach people how to eat properly

   B. discover how important the exercise is to one’s health

   C. study the ways to slow or stop the process of aging

D. invent new medicine to slow down the process of aging

  A. consider their lives have been very successful

  B. have come through the battle of life safely

  C. know more about themselves and the outside world
