A group of Chinese lawyers are working hard to stop the auction (拍卖) of two Qing Dynasty artifacts scheduled to take place in Paris in less than three weeks. The artifacts are part of a 12?piece set of bronze animal heads originally used at Yuanmingyuan Park. They were looted (掠夺) along with hundreds of thousands of other items during and after the invasion of Beijing by British and French troops in 1860.

[2]When three other bronze pieces from the same set—monkey, ox and tiger—appeared in Sotheby's and Christie's auctions in Hong Kong in 2000, the Chinese government tried to stop the process. It asked for the return of the relics, but the two auction firms refused. A Chinese State?owned firm and a Macao billionaire have since been able to buy five of the 12 animal heads for millions of dollars and have returned them to Beijing.

[3]The Paris auction involves a rabbit and a mouse head, which were part of the French designer Yves Saint Laurent's art collection. Again, Christie's has refused to call off the auction and ________________to China.

[4]Liu Yang, the head of a group of Chinese lawyers behind the campaign to block the auction, said that several dozen lawyers, culture experts, and historians stand ready to testify (作证) in a Chinese lawsuit demanding the return of the relics.

[5]The 1995 United Nations Unidroit Convention, to which both China and France are signatories (签约国), limits claims on stolen cultural artifacts to within 50 years of their theft. But_Liu_said_he_was_confident_the_agreement_could_be_interpreted_in_China's_favor. Internationally, there have been conflicting arguments concerning claims to stolen art objects.

[6]So what's your opinion? Do you think it makes sense for the lawyers to open international litigation (诉讼) seeking to block the sale and bring the heads back to China?
