It was a cool autumn day, a day to 36 . That was the day young women everywhere wait their whole lives for, and I knew in my heart I would 37 those moments forever.
Before me stood a young man with whom I had 38 my secrets and delighted moments. I had whispered promises in his ear and did my best to 39 them. I had never trusted anyone with the 40 to my heart until he entered my life. Now I knew the only safe place for this key to remain was with him.
This was a first for 41 of us. We gazed nervously in each other’s 42 , waiting for the other to make the first 43 . I was unsure if we were ready for this. We stood there in 44 .
Echoes from the past rang 45 in my mind. The laughter and tears we had shared will forever be 46 in a special place in my heart. My emotions were so weak at that 47 . Part of me wanted to run and hide, and 48 said, “Go ahead. It’s time.”
Then just 49 he were reading my mind, he gently grasped my hand, 50 all my doubt. With his 51 voice, he whispered, “It’s time.”
I 52 my arms around him and kissed the tip of his nose, then I whispered softly in his ear, “I love you.” Then it happened -the 53 we both had been waiting for.
I’ll never forget that day or the silly grin on his face afterward. Tears streamed 54 my face as he crossed the street to step onto the yellow school bus. Then he 55 me and said, “Bye, Mommy. I love you.”

I ran into a stranger as he passed by. “I’m so sorry!” was my reply. Then he said. “Excuse me too——I wasn’t 21 watching for you.” We were very polite, this stranger and I. Then we went 22 our way after saying goodbye.
But at 23 , a different story is told. How we treat our loved ones, young and old. Later in the kitchen, as I 24 our meal, my daughter walked up to me , very still. When I turned, I 25 knocked her down. “Get out of the way!” I shouted with a frown. She stepped away silently, with her little heart 26 . I didn’t realize how harshly I had spoken.
That night, when I lay 27 in bed, God’s quiet voice spoke to me, “While 28 with a stranger, you are calm and polite, but with those you love, you are QUICK to excite—Go look around on the kitchen floor, you will find some flowers there by the 29 . Those are the flowers she brought for you. She 30 them herself—pink, yellow, and your favorite blue. She stood there quietly, and you never saw the 31 in her eyes.”
By this time, I felt sad and small and now my own tears had begun to fall. I quietly went and knelt by her 32 , “Wake up, my dear,” I said. “Are these the flowers you picked up for me?” She smiled, “I found them out by the tree. I 33 them in a napkin, just for you. I knew you’d like them, especially the 34 .” I said, “I am so sorry that I missed them today—and I 35 have fussed(发牢骚)at you that way.”

The fact that blind people can see things using other parts of their bodies apart from their eyes may help us understand our feeling about color. If they sense color differences, then perhaps we, too, are affected by color without knowing it.
Salesmen have discovered by experience over a long period of time that sugar sells badly in green wrappings(包装), that blue foods are considered not agreeable to the taste, and that cosmetics(化妆品) should never be packed in brown. Their discoveries have grown into a whole subject of color psychology(心理学). Some of our preferences(偏爱) for colors are clearly psychological. Dark blue is the color of the night sky and therefore connected with calm, while yellow is a day color connected with energy and encouragement. Experiments have shown that colors, partly because they are connected with psychology, also have a direct effect on people’s mind. People in bright red surroundings show an increase in breathing speed, heartbeat and blood pressure; red is exciting. Pure blue has exactly the opposite effect; it is a calming color. Being exciting, red was chosen as the signal for danger, but a close study shows that a bright yellow can produce a more basic state of alarm, so fire engines in some advanced areas are now rushing around in bright yellow colors that stop buses, trucks and cars.

Parents whose children show a special interest in a particular sport feel very difficult to make a decision about their children’s careers. Should they allow their children to train to become top sports men or women? For many children it means starting school work very young, and going out with friends and other interests have to take a second place. It’s very difficult to explain to a young child why he or she has to train five hours a day, even at the weekend, when most of his or her friends are playing.
Another problem is of course money. In many countries money for training is available from government for the very best young sports men and women. If this help can not be given, it means that it is the parents who have to find the time and the money to support their child’s development---and sports clothes, transport to competitions, special equipment, etc. can all be very expensive.
Many parents are worried that it is dangerous to start serious training in a sport at an early age. Some doctors agree that young muscles may be damaged by training before they are properly developed. Professional trainers, however, believe that it is only by training young that you can reach the top as a successful sports person. It is clear that very few people do reach the top, and both parents and children should be prepared for failure even after many years of training.
