As is obviously revealde in the bar chart above, over the past seven years(1998-2004), the proportion of free blood donation in clinical blood collection has been climbing and rocketed to over seventy percent in 2004, which is a welcome development to our whole society.
The implied meaning of the bar chart above can be illustrated as follows. To bengin with, the increasing percentage indicates that great changes have taken place in terms of people’s spirtual civilization. Most people want to make contribution to our society in one way or another which is a way to realize self-value.The spirit of selflessness is more pervasive than ever before. What’s more, the statistics betray that modern people, especially the young, jave a better understanding of medical knowledge. Most people have abandoned their old idea that blood donation is most harmful to human body.In one word, word our spirtual progress and rich medical knowl-edge have resulted in such a positive result.
In my view, effective measures should be taken to encouragefree blood donation.First of all, a nation wide education campaign should be launched to spread the necessity and knowledge of free blood donation.Besides, we should be set up to protect those who donate blood.Only in this way can we create a harmonious and healthy society.

阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
The First Lesson of the New Term, a TV program about how to protect oneself in times of emergency, is meant to provide school students with the knowledge on self-protection. It will help students in case of natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires, snowstorms or floods. Many examples show that enough knowledge about self-protection along with enough courage and willpower can help many survive.
The most recent example is from the earthquake in Sichuan Province in May of 2008. While thousands of school kids were killed by collapsed school buildings, all students from a middle school survived even without a single one being hurt. That’s because of their timely and orderly evacuations (撤离), which they had been drilled in every term.
It’s good to see this program is the most important activity of a national campaign to make students be aware of personal safety. Chinese Education Ministry has called on all schools nationwide to give lessons on self-protection knowledge in times of emergency every term.

Can the thought of loved ones help reduce pain? This may indicate the importance of social relationships and staying socially connected. A study was recently conducted by researchers at the University of California in Los Angeles.
In the study, the researchers asked 25 women to participate who had boyfriends with whom they had been in a good relationship for more than six months. The women received painful heat stimuli(刺激)to their forearms while they went through a number of different conditions.
In one set of conditions, they viewed photographs of their boyfriend, a stranger and a chair. “When the women were just looking at pictures of their partner, they actually reported less pain to the heat stimuli than when they were looking at pictures of an object or pictures of a stranger, ” said study co-author Naomi Eisenberger, director of UCLA’s Social and Affective Neuroscience Laboratory, “Thus, the mere reminder of one’s partner through a simple photograph was capable of reducing pain.”
In another set of conditions, each woman held the hand of her boyfriend, the hand of a male stranger and a squeeze ball. The study found that when women were holding their boyfriends’ hands, they reported less physical pain than when they were holding a stranger’s hand or a ball while receiving the same amount of heat stimulation.
“This changes our idea of how social support influences people,” Eisenberger said.
“This study proves how much of an impact our social ties can have on our experience and fits with other work emphasizing the importance of social support for physical and mental health,” Eisenberger added.
The researchers advised that the next time people are going through a stressful or painful experience, if they cannot bring a loved one with them, a photo may do.
