Castell Coch

This castle was built in the 1870's. Lfor Bach was once the owner of this castle many decades ago, and it is told that he hid a treasure in the nearby tunnel（地道）. Rumors say that it is guarded by three eagles waiting for Lfor to return to collect his treasure.

Luffness Castle

In the basement(地下室) of this castle is a huge door leading to a room. The family kept this door open at all times, but one day the door was found locked and the key was missing. The whole family was surprised. The door was so big that it could not be broken down. One day the son of the family shone of a torch the door. He discovered that the key was on the inside of the room. To this day the door remains locked from the inside.

Toddington Castle

　　This castle was built during the 13th century. This castle has a local legend that tells about a witch who was put in prison within the castle and died. It is told that her spirit remains and if you put your ear to the floor at Easter, you can hear her cooking below.

A legend rests on this castle that states the devil(魔鬼) was the one who built it. It is said the devil had a problem with some people and had planned on punishing them. On his way, the devil met a cobbler（修鞋匠）.The cobbler pointed out that it was still a reasonable distance until he would reach his destination. The cobbler displayed how many shoes he had worn out. Listening to him, the devil did not think his plan was worth so much effort and gave up his plan.

John Graham won the annual competition of tall tales, which is held at the Bridge. Inn in Santon Bridge, in Britain’s Lake District. The “world’s biggest liar” has been crowned, after telling a tale about a German World War II submarine invading Britain to get digital television decoders. The 69 – year – old Graham, who has won the title five times before, insisted to BBC radio that “it was a true story”.

The annual World’s Biggest Liar Competition, which now draws tourists and competitors from around the world, dates back to the 19 ^th century when it was founded to honor a famous man called Will Ritson （1808 – 1890）.

The contest is always held at the Bridge Inn. Ritson was a popular pub owner who lived in the western Lake District. He always kept his customers interested with his funny stories. Of course, Ritson was a very honest and sincere man, who insisted that all his tales were true.

Each year, a contest is held to award the title of “The Biggest Liar in the World” to the person who is worthy of following in Ritson’s footsteps. More than 120 people from across the country, and from as far away as Sweden and South Africa, have taken part in this interesting competition.

Competitiors have five minutes to tell the biggest lie. Last year’s winner Sue told the truth of “telling a successful lie”, “I think you have got to keep that element of truth and then add some mad and fantastical elements. If you start off in a spaceship then you’ve lost people straight away.”

I went into Harrods in London (a huge department store I am sure you have heard of) to buy some Minton china plates for a wedding anniversary which was to be a group gift from friends to other friends in Geneva.

Having only 30 minutes between meeting. I whizzed there in a taxi from the office and battled through the milling people on the 2^nd day of the sales on the ground floor up to the 5^th to the china department. There was a man standing there who was obviously a sales person who I rushed up to and asked if he had this particular china in stock and if it would take long to wrap, etc. He was amazing. He got the plates in seconds, wrapped them up and asked me if I wanted a store card, to which I replied no, because I lived in Switzerland, to which he replied asking if, as I lived abroad, would like a tax rebate form(退税表). After that he showed me what to do, produced a map of the store and told me where I should go for the formalities(程序). That was fabulos! I thanked him and said what wonderful service he had given me. I even asked if he gave this to everyone, to which he answered: “I’m just doing what is required at Harrods”. With that, a tall man in a grey suit approached me and offered his hand to shake mine saying, “Can I introduce myself? I am the Chief Executive of Harrods and what an interesting conversation I have just heard…” He had been wandering through the store (as you should do as a hands-on CEO) and had overheard me thanking this salesman, whose face, I can hardly

describe, was frozen in a mixture of delight awe and astonishment!
