摘要：Dr. Bethune arrived in Yenan at the end of March 1938. Twenty months later he died. During the time that he was in China, he had worked under very difficult conditions, caring for the wounded, training medical workers, setting up army hospital and organizing medical teams to serve at the front or behind the enemy lines. He seldom had any rest. Sometimes he would go on horseback and make long journeys to places where he was most needed. In August 1938, Dr. Bethune wrote to a friend:"It is true I am tired , but I dot't think I have been so happy for a long time. I am needed. Norman Bethune is one of China’s most famous heroes, but he wasn’t Chinese—he was Canadian. He gave his life to helping the Chinese people Norman Bethune 51 born in 1890. He became a 52 in 1916, and he went to the front to look after injured soldiers in the First World War. He saw many soldiers die in the war. Later he invented new treatments to 53 soldiers, and medical tools to use outside hospital.

He opened hospitals to give treatment to local people and soldiers, and to train doctors and nurses. He also wrote books so that doctors could learn about new treatments.
