Ever since Jerusha started her college, she began to write letters. Through a series of letters, from freshman to senior in college, she shared her life and study with an unknown gentleman, who never wrote back. Here is the very first letter.

Dear Mr. Kind,
Here I am! I traveled yesterday for four hours in a train. It's a funny experience. I never rode in one before.
College is the biggest, most confusing place — I get lost whenever I leave my room. I will tell you more later when I'm feeling less puzzled. Now I want to write a letter first just to get me familiar to you.
It seems strange to be writing letters to somebody you don't know. It seems strange for me to be writing letters at all — I've never written more than three or four in my life, so please overlook it if they are not a model kind.
Before leaving yesterday morning, Mrs. Lippett and I had a very serious talk. She told me how to behave, especially towards the kind gentleman who is doing so much for me. I must take care to be very respectful.
I have been thinking of you a great deal this summer; having somebody take an interest in me after all these years makes me feel as though I had found a sort of family. It seems as though I belonged to somebody now, and it's a very comfortable feeling. I must say, however, that when I think about you, my imaqination has very little to work upon.
There are just three things that I know:
I .You are tall.
II .You are rich.
III. You hate girl.
I suppose I might call you Dear Mr. Girl-Hater. Only that's rather unpleasant to me. Or Dear Mr. Rich-Man, but that's unpleasant to you, as though money were the only important thing about you. Maybe you won't stay rich all your life; But at least you will stay tall all your life! So I decide to call you Dear Daddy-long-legs. I hope you won't mind. It's just a private pet name — we won't tell Mrs. Lippett.
The ten o'clock bell is going to ring in two minutes. Our day is divided by bells. We eat and sleep and study by bells. There it goes! Lights out. Good night.
You can see how strictly I obey rules due to my training in the John Grier Home.
Yours most respectfully,
Jerusha Abbott

Plastic surgery(整容手术)is becoming popular with young people. But just a few days ago, it took the life of a pop singer in China.

Wang Bei, 24, a former singer on Super Girl, died on Nov 15 during plastic surgery in Wuhan, Hubei province.

The young singer's jaw(下巴)suddenly started bleeding during the procedure, blocking her throat and causing her to suffocate(窒息).

The Ministry of Health stepped in on Nov 27, calling on health authorities all over China to increase supervision(监管)of the country's medical plastic surgery industry. It also told the Hubei health department to look into Wang's death and “to make the result of the investigation public as soon as possible.”

Wang's death has raised concerns about the dangers of plastic surgery in China.

In China, people ,especially youngsters, are becoming more and more conscious(有意识的)of their looks and are willing to go to great lengths to make themselves look more attractive.

Today, many young people see plastic surgery as the key to love, wealth and success.

Ding Xiaobang, a plastic surgeon at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital, said that in the past decade, he had seen a growing number of patients, like Wang Bei, who were young and naturally good-looking.

“They want to improve their appearance to find better opportunities in work and in marriage,” said Ding.

Zhao, 23, a student at the Beijing International Studies University, spent 3000 yuan on an eyelid tuck(双眼皮手术)before graduating this year. She said:“ Of course I want to make a good impression on potential employers.”

Ding also owed this trend(趋势)to frustration(挫折).

“ Some are frustrated with life and use surgery as a way to try and recover,” said Ding.

But a lot of people ignore(忽视)the risk and danger of plastic surgery. In 12 years as a doctor, Zhu Wenbo from Chengdu has often seen unsuccessful plastic surgeries.

“I've met several people whose faces were ruined by plastic surgery, and helping them recover(修复)is difficult,” said Zhu.

Being yourself is the most beautiful thing in the world. But if you are considering plastic surgery, here is some advice from experts:

1.Choose qualified(合格的)hospitals, especially those with a good reputation for plastic surgery.Avoid beauty salons.(美容院)

2.Do not expect too much from changing your appearance. It can only change your face or another body part in certain ways. And safety should always come first.
