This Man's Number One
Millions of people have their names listed in the Manhattan telephone book in New York. Alec Aarman is special, however. His name came first in the book in 1981. The year before the telephone company did not spell his name right. They spelled it Aarman. So John Aab was the first name listed in the telephone book.
Alec loves being first. Everyone can't be first like Alec. Someone has to be last. In 1981, the last person listed in the telephone book was N. Zzherobrouskievskieskieea.
People are listed in the telephone book by their last names. The names are arranged in the order of the alphabet (字母), from A to Z. When two names begin with the same letter, the second letter is used in deciding the alphabetical order. When two last names are spelled the same, the first names are alphabetized.
