I lost my sight when I was four years old by falling off a box and landing on my head. Now I am thirty-two. I can vaguely(模糊地) 1 the brightness of sunshine and what color red is. It would be wonderful to see things again, 2 a disaster can do strange things to people. It happened to me the other day that I might not have come to love 3 as I do if I hadn’t been blind. I believe in life now. I am not sure that I would believe in it so 4 . I don’t mean that I would prefer to go without my eyes. I 5 mean that the loss of 6 made me enjoy more of 7 I have now.
Life asks us to keep making 8 to reality. If a person is able to get ready for anything changeable his world will 9 more meaningful. I became blind, but I was 10 . My parents and my teachers saw 11 in me-a potential(潜力) to live, you might call it-which I didn’t see, and they make me fight it out with blindness.
The hardest 12 I had to learn was to believe in myself. That was what I had to do at least. If I hadn’t been able to do that, I would become a chair rocker for the 13 of my life. When I say I believe in myself I am not talking about simply the kind of self-confidence that helps me down an unfamiliar staircase 14 . That is part of it. But I mean something bigger than that: A belief that I could deal with anything alone; that somewhere in the 15 there is a special place where I can make myself fit.

Which animals do we need most? Dogs? Cats? Horses? No! The answer to the question is cows!

Why cows? Cows give us milk. And milk is one of our most important foods.Suppose(假设)that all the milk cows make in one year was put into bottles, and suppose these bottles were set side by side, the line of bottles would go all around the world 400 times!

That is a lot of milk.Less than half of it is used for drinking and cooking. Most of it is used to make butter, cheese, ice-cream and many other things.

It takes many cows to give us that much milk. But not as much as it used to.A cow used to give only about 1, 500 quarts(夸脱)of milk a year. Now a fine cow may give more than 3, 000 quarts in a year!

Why do cows give more milk today? Farmers have better cows. The cows get better care and better food. For each two and a half pounds of grass that she eats, a fine cow makes about a pound of milk. But she may not give all the milk she makes. If she is unhappy, she may give only a small part of it.A cow is a friendly animal. If man is kind and speaks softly to her, she gives more milk. She also likes music.

Cows give us more than just food.Their skin can be made into shoes. No animal does more for us than cows.

2.How much of the milk is used for drinking and cooking?

I wonder if there is any girl or boy who does not like to see a rainbow (彩虹) in the sky. It is so beautiful.

There is a story, saying that whenever you see a rainbow you should run at once to the place where it touches the ground, and there you would find a pot of gold. Of course it is not true. Neither you could find the pot of gold, nor could you ever find its end. No matter how far you run, it always seems far away.

A rainbow is not a thing that we can feel with our hands as we can feel a flower. It is only the effect (结果) for light shining on raindrops. The raindrops catch the sunlight and break it up into all the wonderful colours which we see.

It is called a rainbow perhaps because it is made up of raindrops and looks like a bow (弓).

That is why we can never see a rainbow in a clear sky. We see rainbows only when there is rain in the air and the sun is shining brightly through the clouds. Every rainbow has many colours in the same order. The first or the top colour is always red, next comes orange, then green, and last of all blue. A rainbow is indeed one of the wonders of nature.
