We haven't seen a bear yet, but there are bears and deer in the forests around the lake where we're staying. The bears often go to the rubbish dump to look for food. Perhaps we'll go to see them at the dump. We will need to be careful because bears are quite dangerous. They will attack if you surprise them, so people carry bells when they are out walking to warn the bears away. On our first night we saw a fireworks show. It doesn't get dark here until 10 o'clock, so it was a really late night for us. Today I had a very short swim in the lake. It was cold .The weather has been sunny, but not like the weather at home. Bye for now. We will be home next week.

Have you ever rubbed your hands together when they get cold? Why do we do that? We do that for friction.Friction happens when two things that aren’t very smooth rub together to make heat energy. The faster you rub two things together, the more friction(and heat)you can make.Let’s discover friction!

  WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  ●Soap ●Water ●Your hands!

  WHAT TO DO:

1.Make sure your hands are dry.

2.Rub your hands together until you feel the heat of your hands.

3.Now, use soap and water to get your hands very slippery(滑的).

4.Try to make friction happen while your hands are slippery.

5.Please write down what has happened.

  LET’S TALK!

Friction is an energy that happens when two things rub together. When friction happens, it makes heat! When your hands are slippery, they won’t make very much friction and your hands won’t get so hot.

  DID YOU KNOW?

1.Friction happens when you stop your fast running bike.

2.Ancient people made fires by rubbing two pieces of wood together.Friction happened though they didn’t know it.

Friction is everywhere.Have you ever noticed situations where friction is happening? If not, ask your parents to take you out in a car.If it is not too hot, touch the tires(轮胎)of the car before and after a short drive to see how much warmer they get from friction.

Perhaps the only test score that I remember is the 55 when I was in high school.
The test was the final for a course. I remember waiting anxiously as my teacher Mr. Right passed out our papers one by one. It was a rather difficult test. I heard my classmates groaning, and I could tel by the groans that the scores weren’t looking good.
Mr. Right put my paper on my desk. There in big red numbers, circled to draw attention, was my score, 55!
I lowered my head, and covered the score up quickly. A 55 is not something that you wanted your classmates to see.“The scores were not very good, none of you passed,”Mr. Right said. “The highest score in the class was a 55.”
A 55. That’s me!
Suddenly my sad look didn’t look so bad. I had the highest score. I felt a lot better.
I walked home alone that day with the low but high score. My father knew that I had a big test that day and asked me as soon as I got home, “How did you do in your test?”“I made a 55,”I said.
A frown(皱眉)now stood on my father’s face. I knew I had to explain immediately. “But Dad, I had the highest score in the calss,”I proudly stated. I thought that explanation would make a difference.“You failed!”my father replied.“But it’s the highest!” I insisted.“I don’t care what scores others had, but you failed. What matters is what you do!”my father firmly said.
For years, my father was always that way. It didn’t matter what others did, it only mattered what I did and that I did it excelently.
We often don’t understand the wisdom(智慧)of good parents until we ourselves stand in the parents’shoes. My father’s words have carried me throughout life.
