　　Do you like to eat out?Do you like to eat quikly?Do you like cheap food?Some people go to fast –food restaurants for these reasons(理由)．In the past , people usually went to diners for these reasons．Today many people still go to diners for the same reasons．

　　A man named Walter Scott had the first “diner “ in 1872．It wasn’t really a diner．It was only a simple food cart(大车)．People on the street walked up to the cart to buy food．These carts sold meal．The meal was a sandwich or eggs．In 1887 , Samual Messer Jones built the first diner big enough to allow people to come inside．However , they did not sit down．Later, people built diners with tables and chairs , and people sat down while they ate．Before long ,many diners stayed open around the clock．Diners changed in other ways , too．The old menu(菜单)because bigger．Diners soon became permanent(永久性的)buildings．

　　Modern diners look similar to the diners of the early 1900s．They are buildings with large windows．People can eat all three meals in them．Today , many people eat in fastfood restaurants such as McDonald’s and Burger King．However , the diner keeps an American tradition(传统),and thousands of people still enjoy eating there．
