One morning in April, Jim Reed checked his e-mail. It was from a woman in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He had talked to her on e-mail many times in the last ten days. All the other messages were fun and interesting to read. This message was different.
The message said,“Good-bye loved kowihn yu I amj leavig.”
Mr. Reed was frightened by the message. He tried to understand the words that were not spelled tight. He quickly wrote a
message to his new friend.
“What do you mean by the message you just sent me?”
He waited but did not get an answer. He wrote back,“Please talk to me.”
Finally, she wrote,“I am fallllljg asleep what ti say gildgye ti ny friends.”Mr. Reed thought hard about this message.“Is she going to kill herself?”he thought.
“What is your phone number?” he typed. The woman sent a phone number. Mr. Reed called. At first the phone was busy.
Then it just rang and rang. He called the police in Pittsburgh, and told them his story. Then he faxed them what his friend wrote.
The police and paramedics (医护人员) quickly went to the woman' s house. When she didn't answer the doorbell, they broke in. They found her on the floor near the computer. She told them,“I took 60 pills.”The paramedics rushed her to the hospital.
“Mr. Reed did a great job of saving this woman,”the police captain said.“If he hadn't guessed at the e-message, she would
be dead now.”The woman is fine now, and she thanks Mr. Reed for saving her life.

阅读Fishing Can Be Dangerous Old Peter liked fishing.Whenever he had any free time he drove into the countryside, found a good place to fish, and spent a few hours fishing. The problem was that most of the best places to fish were on private land, and Peter often had to pull his rod out of the water quickly and run off with it when the owner of the land came along. One day he was sitting by a river that ran through a rich man's property when he fell asleep. He was awakened by a voice saying, “You'll never catch anything using that bait.” Peter looked up and saw a man standing behind him. “What do you mean?”Peter said.“There's nothing wrong with this bait.I always use it.I've caught thirty fish with it today already.” “How interesting!” the man said.“Do you know who I am?” Peter shook his head. “I'm the owner of this land.” Peter thought very quickly. “Do you know who I am?” he asked. One day when some government officials were rebuilding a house, they found a mouse hole in a corner and used smoke to make the mice inside the hole come out. A while later they saw mice running out, one after another, but they saw two mice didn’t run away immediately. It seemed that one was trying to bite(咬) the tail of the other.
Everyone was puzzled, so they came nearer to take a look. They realized that one of the two mice was blind, and the other was trying to allow the blind mouse to bite his tail in order to pull the blind one with him to run away.
During the meal time, they started to talk about the two mice. One serious American said, “I think the relationship between those two mice was that of king and guard.”
A smart Frenchman said, “I think the relationship between them was that of husband and wife.”
A Japanese said, “I think the relationship between them was that of mother and son.”
At that moment, one Chinese asked, “Why did those two mice have a certain relationship?”
Suddenly, they looked back at the Chinese. The American, the Frenchman and the Japanese who had spoken earlier all lowered (低下) their heads in shame, and didn’t answer.
In fact, the great love is not built on friendship or blood relationship. Instead, it is based on no relationship.
