Hundreds of years ago, news was carried from place to place by people on foot or by horse. It took days, weeks and sometimes months for people to receive news. Now it is possible to send words and pictures around the world in seconds. Billions of people learn about news stories of their country and all over the world every day, by watching TV, reading newspapers or looking through something on the Internet.
Newspapers have been an important part of everyday life since 18th century. Many countries have hundreds of different newspapers. (1) How do newspaper editors decide which news stories to print(印刷)? Why do they print some stories and not others? What makes a good newspaper story?
Firstly, it’s important to report new stories. The Internet and TV stations can report news much faster than newspapers. Yet, newspapers give more about the story. They may also look at the story in another way, (2) or they may print completely different stories to those on TV or the Internet.
Secondly, a news story has to be interesting and unusual. (3) life, do, stories, to, not, everyday, read, of, want, people . As a result, many stories are about some kinds of danger and seem to be “bad” news. For example, (4) newspapers never print stories about planes landing safely, instead of print stories about plane accidents.
Another factor(因素) is also very important in many news stories. Many people are interested in news in foreign countries, (5) but more prefer to read stories about people, places and events in their own country. So the stories on the front page in Chinese newspapers are usually very different from the ones in British, French and American newspapers.

So why do children still seem to acquire(学到) languages more quickly than the rest of us? It's because of the way they learn. Children learn by simply doing what comes naturally—they listen, copy and communicate. Let's take a closer look at how children acquire languages. Perhaps we can discover a better, more "natural" way to learn English.
Children don't practice grammar drills, but use languages to talk about things that interest them. This helps them learn to express themselves. They don't worry about inadequate(不足的) vocabulary or poor grammar. 62.They find ways to express themselves, and they do it successfully.
63.Students should pay more attention to genuine(真实的) communication. Look for chances to talk with people in English. If you can't find a foreigner to talk to, talk with other English students instead. Start an English discussion group and chat about music, movies or whatever interests you.
Don't worry about making mistakes. The aim is to learn how to communicate easily and comfortably. 64.记住你甚至用一个很少的词汇也能够成功的交流。
Trust your own natural ability to learn English. You've got more potential than you probably realize!

Sunday is more like Monday than it used to be. Places of business that used to keep daytime “business hours” are now open late into the night. And on the Internet, the hour of the day and the day of the week have become irrelevant. A half century ago in the United states, most people experienced strong and precise dividing lines between days of rest and days of work, school time and summer time. Today the dividing lines are still there, but they seem not clear.
The law in almost all states used to require stores to close on Sunday; in most, it no longer does. It used to keep the schools open in all seasons except summer, in most, it still does. And whether the work week should strengthen its legal(法律的)limits, or whether it should become more changeable, is often debated(争论). How should we, as a society, organize our time? Should we go even further in relaxing the dividing lines of time until we live in a world in which every minute is much like every other?
These are not easy questions even to ask. Part of the difficulty is that we seldom recognize the “law of time” even when we meet it face to face. We know as children that we have to go to school a certain number of hours, a certain number of days, a certain number of years – but unless we meet the truant officer(学监), we may well think that we should go to school because of social custom and parents’ requirement rather than to the law. As adults we know “extra pay for overtime working” very well, but less familiar with the fact that what constitutes(构成)“overtime” is a matter of legal thing. When we turn the clock forward to start daylight – saving time, have we ever thought to ourselves: “Here is the law in action”? As we shall see, there is a lot of law that has great influence on how organize and use time: compulsory education law, overtime law, and daylight-saving law – as well as law about Sunday closing, holidays, being late to work, time zones, and so on. Once we begin to look for it, we will have no trouble finding a law of time to examine and assess.

Do you know why different animals or pests have their special colours? Colours in them seem to be mainly used to protect themselves.
Some birds like eating locusts(蝗虫), but birds cannot easily catch them. Why? It is because locusts change their colurs with the changes of the colours of crops .When crops are green, locusts look green .But as the harvest time comes, locusts change into the same brown colour as crops have .Some other pests whose colours are different from plants are easily found and eaten by others .So they have to hide themselves for lives and appear only at night.
If you study the animals’ life, you’ll find the main use of colours is to protect themselves .Bears, lions and other animals move quietly through forests .They cannot be easily seen by hunters because their colours are much like the trees.
Colours are useful not only on the land , but also in the sea .A kind of fish in the sea can give out a kind of black liquid(液体)when the fish face danger. The liquid spreads over quickly, so they cannot be found by their enemies and can quickly swim away. That is why they can live safely though they are not strong at all.
