摘要: What does the story tell us ? A. We should help the people in trouble. B. We should be friendly to each other . C. Each of us should be a kind man . D. A , B and C . C If you don’t use your arms or your legs for some time, they become weak . When you start using them again , they slowly become strong again . Everybody knows that. Yet many people don’t seem to know that memory works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it . When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong. If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak ,we know that it is own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame.and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can’t read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they can’t read or write and they have to remember things; They cannot write them down in a little notebook. They have to remember days, name, songs and stories ;So their memories is the whole time being exercised. So if you want to have a good memory learn from the people , practise remembering. 根据短文内容.选择正确答案.并将其标号填入题前的括号内.

One day a poor farmer was taking a bag of rice to town. Suddenly the bag fell from his horse on the
road. He didn’t know how to do about it because it was too heavy for him to lift by himself . He only
hoped that somebody would soon pass by and help him.
Just at this moment a man riding a horse came up to him. But the farmer was very disappointed (失望) when he saw who he was. It was the great man living nearby. The farmer had hoped to ask another farmer or a poor manlike him.
But to his surprise, the great man got off his horse as soon as he came nearer. He said to the farmer ," I see you need help, friend. How good it is that I’m here just at the right time.” Then he took one end of the bag, the farmer took the other, they together lifted and put it on the horse.
"Sir," asked the farmer," How can I pay you ?"
"It’s quite easy," the great man answered with a smile, "Wherever you see anyone else in trouble, do the same for him."

A story is told about a soldier who was finally coming home after having fought in Vietnam. He
called his parents from San Francisco. "Mom and Dad, I'm coming home, but I've a favor to ask.
I have a friend. I'd like to bring home with me."
"Sure," they replied, "we'd love to meet him." "He was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He lost a
arm and a leg. He has nowhere else to go, and I want him to live with us." "I'm sorry to hear that,
son. Maybe we can help him find somewhere to live."
"No. Mom and Dad, I want him to live with us."
"Son," said the father, "you don't know what you're asking. Someone with such a handicap would
be a temble burden (负担) on us. We have our own lives to live, and it's very hard for us. I think you
should just come home and forget about this guy. He'll find a way to live himself."
At that point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard nothing more from him. A few days
later, however, they received a call from the San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from
a building, they were told. The police believed he killed himself. The parents flew to San Francisco but
to their surprise they discovered something they didn't know — their son had only one arm and one leg.
