a big wet kiss right on my lips and smiled at me ,All I could do was to take his hand and
20
him back to his seat ,Then I turned my back and couldn’t help laughing.

Home, sweet home
It was December 22. The cold wind swept the countless snowflakes(雪花) across my front yard. My dad was there sweeping the
1
. His nose was
2
as a cherry. With every breath he took, a white puff(水气) ran into the air.
Inside, my mother was
3
the last of the boxes. As I entered the front door, the
4
that after today I wouldn’t enter through that door ever again
5
a hole in my stomach. I picked up my dog and sat Indian style with him in my arms on the
6
, wooden floor. I had no
7
but to sit on the floor, for there was no longer any furniture existing in my house. I sat there in a daze(恍惚), just
8
. There was no reason for my parents to make me, a once
9
12-year-old kid,
10
. I had two best friends right across the street; I did well in school and I always kept my room clean.
11
, this was “my house”. By no means did I want a couple of
12
living here. These recurring(重复)thoughts
13
around in my mind and I couldn’t find an answer.
Out of the front window I could see the orange top of a truck pulling in the cleaned driveway and I knew it was the other U-Haul. Instantly three men came
14
in the back door like World War III was starting.
I watched
15
as the men, my mother and my dad carried our belongings to the truck. My dog even winced(畏缩)as he stared out of the window. I wondered if he was
16
, too, or if he just wished to play outside in the snow.
My mum came in, looking solemn(凝重). She turned
17
the overhead light, put the
18
in my arm and took me out of the back door. A totally
19
feeling filled my heart. For the first time in my life ,I wondered what
20
would be to me tomorrow.

In 1956 Phoenix, Arizona, was a city with boundless blue
1
. One day as I walked around the house with my sister Kathy’s new parakeet (小鹦鹉)on my finger, I wanted to show Perky what the sky looked like. I took him into the backyard, and then, to my horror , Perky flew off. The enormous, blue sky swallowed up my sister’s blue
2
and suddenly he had gone, clipped wings and all.
I told Kathy about Perky's disappearance and I was anxious that she would blame me. But , unexpectedly, Kathy managed to
3
me. With fake optimism, she even tried to convince me that Perky would find a new
4
. But I was far too clever to
5
that such a thing was possible.
Decades later, I watched my own
6
growing. We shared their activities, spending soccer Saturdays in folding chairs with the
7
of the kids’ friends, the Kissells. The two families went camping around Arizona together. We became the best of friends. One evening, the game was to tell Great Pet stories. One person claimed(宣称) to
8
the oldest living goldfish. Someone else had a psychic dog. Then Barry, the father of the other family, took the floor and
9
that the Greatest Pet of All Time was his blue parakeet, Sweetie Pie.
"The best thing about Sweetie Pie," he said, "was the
10
we got him. One day, when I was about eight, out of the clear, blue sky, a little blue parakeet just
11
down and landed on my finger."
When I was finally able to
12
, we examined the amazing evidence. The dates and the locations and the pictures of the bird all
13
. It seems our two families had been
14
long before we ever met. Forty years later, I ran to my sister and said, "You were
15
! Perky lived!"

One topic is rarely mentioned in all the talk of improving standards in our schools: the almost complete failure of foreign-language teaching. As a French graduate who has taught for more than twenty-five years, I believe I have some idea of why the failure is so total.
1
the faults already found out in the education system as a whole — such as child-centred learning, the “discovery” method, and the low expectations by teachers of pupils — there have been several serious
2
which have a direct effect on language teaching.
The first is the removal from the curriculum (课程) of the thorough teaching of English
3
. Pupils now do not know a verb from a noun, the subject of a sentence from its object, or the difference between the past, present, or future.
Another important error is mixed-ability teaching, or teaching in ability groups so
4
that the most able groups are
5
and are bored while the least able are lost and
6
bored. Strangely enough, few head teachers seem to be in favour of mixed-ability school football teams.
Progress depends on memory, and pupils start to forget immediately they stop having
7
lessons. This is why many people who attended French lessons at school, even those who got good grades, have
8
it a few years later. Because they never need it, they do not practice it.
Most American schools have accepted what is inevitable and
9
modern languages, even Spanish, from the curriculum. Perhaps it is time for Britain to do the same, and stop
10
resources on a subject which few pupils want or need.

It’s very easy to see why people have bad attitudes. A quick look at the news revealing
1
with crime, war and corruption (腐败) can easily bring us down. Is it possible to
2
a healthy, happy attitude when surrounded by these negative things?
Sure it is! It is possible to wake up each morning with a good mood and
3
the day. Having a positive
4
not only allows us to enjoy life more but also
5
our health and relationships with others.
To lead a happy life, we need to have a positive attitude. We are responsible for our own
6
; other people can’t make us happy. We need to decide to make ourselves happy. This is wonderful because we don’t have to wait around for someone else to do it for us.
We should surround ourselves with
7
people. We are influenced by those people with whom we spend the most time. When we have positive friends, we become positive. Otherwise, we become
8
.
We should also use positive
9
. A. L. Kitselman once said, “‘I am…’ are powerful words; be careful when you use them.” We need to replace our negative self-talk with positive words. Don’t say “I hate getting up in the morning.” Instead, try to say “I am
10
to see a new day.” Changing our self-talk will lead us to the changes in our behavior.

My father often works very hard. And he

goes to the movies. Here I’11 tell you a
2
story about him.
One afternoon, when he finished his work, and
3
go home, he found a film ticket under the glass on his desk. He thought he
4
to have not much work to do that day and
5
was quite wonderful to pass the evening at the cinema.
So he came back home and
6
finished his supper. Then he said good-bye to us and left.
But to our
7
, he came back about half an hour later. I asked him what was the
8
. He smiled and told us about the funny thing that happened at the
9
.
When my father was sitting in his seat, a
10
came to my father’s seat and said that seat was hers. My father was
11
, he took out the ticket
12
looked at it carefully. It was Row 17,
13
. And then he looked at the seat. It was
14
. So he asked her to
15
her ticket. She took out her ticket at once and the seat
16
in it was Rowl7, Seat3.
Why? What’s the matter with all this? While they were wondering, suddenly the woman said, “The
17
of tickets are different.”
18
they looked at the tickets more carefully. After a while my father said, “Oh, I am
19
, I made a mistake. My ticket is for the
20
a month ago. Take this seat, please.” With these words he left.

About five years ago I started at a new school, when my family moved to Iowa.I was just a little

in with the other sixth graders.
Lucy,a girl in my class, who I thought was not

sure she hated me.I would ask her a

I didn’t wear

bell-bottom pants.I didn’t exactly

the coolest girl. But, I kept smiling at her, though she

her eyes, and I kept telling her she looked
13
,even if she sighed in anger.
14
,Lucy let me talk to her, even

her“cool”friends. She started telling me how beautiful I looked. I still remember that first time when she
16
at me saying that, and I smiled right back, telling her
17
. Lucy ,invited me over to her house for sleepovers ,and talked to me all the time instead her other friend.Lucy, the girl who
18
me ,called me her best friend .After that, we still were good friends a whole year later . I will never forget Lucy . She was a great friend .I love a

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit(深坑). All the other frogs
1
the pit. When they saw how
2
the pit was, they told the two frogs that they might be
3
.
The two frogs
4
what the other frogs were saying and
5
to jump up out of the pit with all of their physical strength. The other frogs
6
telling them to stop. Finally, one of the frogs
7
the comments, seriously considering them, and gave up. He
8
down and died.
The other frog continued to jump as
9
as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs shouted at him to stop the
10
and just die. He jumped even harder and finally
11
it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, “Did you not
12
us?” The frog explained to them that he was
13
. He thought they were
14
him the whole time.
This story teaches two lessons: ① There is power of life and death in the
15
. An encouraging word to someone who is
16
can lift them up and help them make it through the day. ② A destructive word to someone who is down can be
17
it takes to kill them. Be
18
of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path.
The
19
of words is great. It is sometimes hard to understand
20
an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times.
