We have completed our first month of preschool .Matthew seems to1it ,He is catching on to the routine (常规)quite nicely .I didn’t leave him there2much the first couple weeks ,I am finding if I’m not there he behaves much better .
In this class a little German boy ,who does not speak 3,cried all the time at first and nor cries occasionally.
The Monday of the second week the little fellow just cried and cried .he was sitting4Matthew ,I thought Matthew was going to start5 and join in ,I stood by and watched ,ready for the rescue ,Matthew kept turning around and 6the boy ,Then he reached his hand back and7him on the leg .He was comforting the boy! Later Matthew was playing with a8and the boy with blocks (积木),actually he was just standing by and crying .Matthew drove his truck over to the blocks ,9 it ,picked up a few of the blocks and started handing them to10.They then together started11 towers on the table and the little boy 12crying ,It seemed13Matthew knew what the little guy needed ,Here was the little guy ,who can’t speak English ,and Matthew ,who14playing together ,like they were best15.
One of the days when I stayed ,they were at lunch and Matthew was 16at the table ,I pulled up a chair to sit next to him ,He smiled ,then grabbed his book bag and took off running17the cafeteria ,I took off after him ,When we reached the wall he wall he just giggled (咯咯笑),turned around and looked at me ,I leaned down to his18to blame him for leaving his seat and running ,He suddenly19a big wet kiss right on my lips and smiled at me ,All I could do was to take his hand and20him back to his seat ,Then I turned my back and couldn’t help laughing.

Home, sweet home
It was December 22. The cold wind swept the countless snowflakes(雪花) across my front yard. My dad was there sweeping the1 . His nose was 2as a cherry. With every breath he took, a white puff(水气) ran into the air.
Inside, my mother was3 the last of the boxes. As I entered the front door, the4 that after today I wouldn’t enter through that door ever again5 a hole in my stomach. I picked up my dog and sat Indian style with him in my arms on the6 , wooden floor. I had no7 but to sit on the floor, for there was no longer any furniture existing in my house. I sat there in a daze(恍惚), just8 . There was no reason for my parents to make me, a once9 12-year-old kid,10 . I had two best friends right across the street; I did well in school and I always kept my room clean.11 , this was “my house”. By no means did I want a couple of12 living here. These recurring(重复)thoughts13 around in my mind and I couldn’t find an answer.
Out of the front window I could see the orange top of a truck pulling in the cleaned driveway and I knew it was the other U-Haul. Instantly three men came14 in the back door like World War III was starting.
I watched15 as the men, my mother and my dad carried our belongings to the truck. My dog even winced(畏缩)as he stared out of the window. I wondered if he was16 , too, or if he just wished to play outside in the snow.
My mum came in, looking solemn(凝重). She turned17 the overhead light, put the18 in my arm and took me out of the back door. A totally19 feeling filled my heart. For the first time in my life ,I wondered what20 would be to me tomorrow.

In 1956 Phoenix, Arizona, was a city with boundless blue1. One day as I walked around the house with my sister Kathy’s new parakeet (小鹦鹉)on my finger, I wanted to show Perky what the sky looked like. I took him into the backyard, and then, to my horror , Perky flew off. The enormous, blue sky swallowed up my sister’s blue2and suddenly he had gone, clipped wings and all.
I told Kathy about Perky's disappearance and I was anxious that she would blame me. But , unexpectedly, Kathy managed to3me. With fake optimism, she even tried to convince me that Perky would find a new 4 . But I was far too clever to5that such a thing was possible.
Decades later, I watched my own6growing. We shared their activities, spending soccer Saturdays in folding chairs with the7of the kids’ friends, the Kissells. The two families went camping around Arizona together. We became the best of friends. One evening, the game was to tell Great Pet stories. One person claimed(宣称) to8the oldest living goldfish. Someone else had a psychic dog. Then Barry, the father of the other family, took the floor and 9that the Greatest Pet of All Time was his blue parakeet, Sweetie Pie.
"The best thing about Sweetie Pie," he said, "was the10we got him. One day, when I was about eight, out of the clear, blue sky, a little blue parakeet just11down and landed on my finger."
When I was finally able to12, we examined the amazing evidence. The dates and the locations and the pictures of the bird all 13. It seems our two families had been14long before we ever met. Forty years later, I ran to my sister and said, "You were15! Perky lived!"

One topic is rarely mentioned in all the talk of improving standards in our schools: the almost complete failure of foreign-language teaching. As a French graduate who has taught for more than twenty-five years, I believe I have some idea of why the failure is so total.1the faults already found out in the education system as a whole — such as child-centred learning, the “discovery” method, and the low expectations by teachers of pupils — there have been several serious2which have a direct effect on language teaching.
The first is the removal from the curriculum (课程) of the thorough teaching of English3. Pupils now do not know a verb from a noun, the subject of a sentence from its object, or the difference between the past, present, or future.
Another important error is mixed-ability teaching, or teaching in ability groups so4that the most able groups are5and are bored while the least able are lost and6bored. Strangely enough, few head teachers seem to be in favour of mixed-ability school football teams.
Progress depends on memory, and pupils start to forget immediately they stop having7lessons. This is why many people who attended French lessons at school, even those who got good grades, have8it a few years later. Because they never need it, they do not practice it.
Most American schools have accepted what is inevitable and9modern languages, even Spanish, from the curriculum. Perhaps it is time for Britain to do the same, and stop10resources on a subject which few pupils want or need.

It’s very easy to see why people have bad attitudes. A quick look at the news revealing 1 with crime, war and corruption (腐败) can easily bring us down. Is it possible to 2 a healthy, happy attitude when surrounded by these negative things?
Sure it is! It is possible to wake up each morning with a good mood and 3 the day. Having a positive 4not only allows us to enjoy life more but also 5 our health and relationships with others.
To lead a happy life, we need to have a positive attitude. We are responsible for our own 6; other people can’t make us happy. We need to decide to make ourselves happy. This is wonderful because we don’t have to wait around for someone else to do it for us.
We should surround ourselves with 7 people. We are influenced by those people with whom we spend the most time. When we have positive friends, we become positive. Otherwise, we become 8.
We should also use positive9. A. L. Kitselman once said, “‘I am…’ are powerful words; be careful when you use them.” We need to replace our negative self-talk with positive words. Don’t say “I hate getting up in the morning.” Instead, try to say “I am 10to see a new day.” Changing our self-talk will lead us to the changes in our behavior.

My father often works very hard. And he1goes to the movies. Here I’11 tell you a2story about him.
One afternoon, when he finished his work, and3go home, he found a film ticket under the glass on his desk. He thought he4to have not much work to do that day and5was quite wonderful to pass the evening at the cinema.
So he came back home and6finished his supper. Then he said good-bye to us and left.
But to our7, he came back about half an hour later. I asked him what was the8. He smiled and told us about the funny thing that happened at the9.
When my father was sitting in his seat, a10came to my father’s seat and said that seat was hers. My father was11, he took out the ticket12looked at it carefully. It was Row 17,13. And then he looked at the seat. It was14. So he asked her to15her ticket. She took out her ticket at once and the seat16in it was Rowl7, Seat3.
Why? What’s the matter with all this? While they were wondering, suddenly the woman said, “The17of tickets are different.”18they looked at the tickets more carefully. After a while my father said, “Oh, I am19, I made a mistake. My ticket is for the20a month ago. Take this seat, please.” With these words he left.

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit(深坑). All the other frogs1the pit. When they saw how 2the pit was, they told the two frogs that they might be3.

This story teaches two lessons: ① There is power of life and death in the15. An encouraging word to someone who is16can lift them up and help them make it through the day. ② A destructive word to someone who is down can be 17it takes to kill them. Be18of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path.
The 19of words is great. It is sometimes hard to understand 20an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in difficult times.

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80s came to the1. I heard him saying to the nurse that he was in a hurry for an appointment at 9:30.
The nurse had him take a 2in the waiting area, 3him it would be at least 40 minutes4someone would be able to see him. I saw him5his watch and decided, since I was6busy — my patient didn’t7at the appointed hour, I would examine his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor’s appointment.
The gentleman said no and told me that he8to go to the nursing home to have breakfast with his9. He told me that she had been10for a while and that she had a special disease. I asked if she would be11if he was a bit late. He replied that she12knew who he was, and that she had not been able to13him for five years now. I was14, and asked him, “And you15go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?”
He smiled and said, “She doesn’t know me, but I know who she is.” I had to hold back16as he left.
Now I17that in marriages(婚姻), true love is acceptance of all that is. The happiest people don’t18have the best of everything; they just19the best of everything they have.20isn’t about how to live through the storm, but how to dance in the rain.
