There once lived a young man who was always unhappy and complained about his poverty. One day, he went to see a fortune teller to inquire how to become1. The fortune teller said, "Young man, you are already wealthy now."
"Where is my wealth?" the young man asked2.
"It is with you. Your3is (are) your wealth. You use them to see this world. You use them to see all the4things in this world. You can read, study and learn. Your hands are your wealth. You can use them to work. You can use them to hug your beloved ones. Your5are your wealth. You can go to any places..." the fortune teller said.
"You call these wealth? Everyone has them," the young man said.
"These are wealth. What you have now are not what others can luckily have. Are you6to give your eyes to me? I am willing to give you a lot of money to7for them," the fortune teller said.
"No, are you crazy? I am not going to exchange my eyes for money! They are8to me!" the young man9.
"Precisely, these are wealth to you. You will not exchange them for money. Furthermore, although a lot of people have their wealthy things, they do not10them or treasure them. They are not11to Heaven for giving them their wealth. They even complain that Heaven is unfair to them. Do you want to12one of them before you will treasure them?" the fortune teller said.
Everyone is wealthy. But we should not13it for granted. We need to treasure our wealth, take care of it and use it14. We should not overuse it because once it is15, it is gone forever. Remember it is our wealth that we do not want to lose.

and may have been killed in4 ."The parents were shocked and grieved (伤心的). They felt very5 without Frank. About three weeks later,6, the phone rang. A voice on the other7 said, "Mother,it's Frank. They8 me,and I'm going to be all right. I'm in the United States and I'm coming home soon. "
Mrs. Creighton was overjoyed,9 tears running down her cheeks,"Oh,that's just wonderful, Frank!"
There was10 for a moment, and then Frank said,"Mother, I want to ask you something important to me. While I've been in the11 , I've made some real12friends. There is one fellow I would like to bring home to meet you and Dad. And I would like to know if it would be all right if he could stay with us. He has13 else to go."
His mother assured him it would be all right.
Then Frank said,"You see, he was14 in battle. His face is all disfigured. He lost his15 , and his right hand is missing. So you see,he feels16about how others will17 him."
Frank's mother stopped to think a minute. Then she said, "Sure Frank, you bring him home—for a18 ,that's it. About him staying with us permanently(永久地), well, we'11 have to think about that." Frank said, "Okay, Mother," and hung up.
A week went by without any19 from Frank, and then a telegram arrived,"We regret to inform you that your son has20 his life. We would like you to come and identify the body."
"Why had he done this?" When they walked into the room to identify the body of their son, they found a young man with a disfigured face, one leg missing, and his right hand gone.

Dear Kate,
I’m very1that you are coming to our school so soon.2you arrive, let me introduce3you what our school life is like.
Our school is quite famous4its long history. It was 5in the early 1920s. It is a good place 6we can prepare ourselves well for the future. We have many wonderful teachers who are always ready to7help.8we pay a lot of attention to how well we do in lessons,9high scores is not the only reason to study. The teachers encourage us to try out new ideas and ask questions.10their help we have developed all kinds of interests in both Arts and Science. Students can choose to11any school clubs they are 12in. We can also choose the subjects that we want to study. Last term I selected American Literature, because I wanted to learn about famous American writers. This term I chose to attend music classes because my father bought me a piano13a birthday present.
14, I was elected monitor of my class,15it can be16to be a monitor,17I have to do a lot of work and attend many meetings.18, being a monitor has taught me a lot, such as caring for others and taking responsibilities and so on. When my class was given the title of “Model Class”, I was19than ever before. So being a monitor plays an important part in my school life. I’m very pleased with my work.
I love my school and hope that you will have a pleasant experience here too. I am looking forward to20you soon.

I guess I should look upon it as a sweet proof of my tastes ,My 17-year-old son,who had for so long1my choice of clothing,now2searches through my closet.Wasn’t it only yesterday that he had turned up his3at my clothes? When Alyosha was in middle school and4beginning to look at his5as a creature from outer space,I had once6to suggest buying a pair of chinos(斜纹棉布裤)while we were7.He said nothing but selected a pair of Jeans. Several years ago, while attending a communication course, I experienced a most unusual process. The instructor asked us to list1 in our past that we felt 2 of, regretted, or incomplete about and read our lists aloud.
This seemed like a very 3 process, but there’s always some 4soul in the crowd who will volunteer. The instructor then 5 that we find ways to 6 people, or take some action to right any wrong doings. I was seriously wondering how this could ever 7 my communication.
Then the man next to me raised his hand and volunteered this story: “Making my8, I remembered an incident from high school. I grew up in a small town. There was a Sheriff 9 of us kids liked. One night, my two buddies(同伴) and I decided to play a 10 on him.
After drinking a few beers, we climbed the tall water tank in the middle of the town, and wrote on the tank in bright red paint: Sheriff Brown is a s.o.b. (畜生). The next day, almost the whole town saw our glorious 11. Within two hours, Sheriff Brown had us in his office. My friends told the truth but I lied. No one 12 found out.”
“Nearly 20 years later, Sheriff Brown’s name 13 on my list. I didn’t even know if he was still 14. Last weekend, I dialed the information in my hometown and found there was a Roger Brown still listed. I tried his number. After a few 15, I heard, “Hello?” I said, “Sheriff Brown?” Paused. “Yes.” “Well, this is Jimmy Calkins.”
“And I want you to know that I did it.” Paused. “I knew it!” he yelled back. We had a good laugh and a 16 discussion. His closing words were: “Jimmy, I always felt bad for you 17 your buddies got it off their chest, but you were carrying it 18 all these years. I want to thank you for calling me...for your sake.”
Jimmy inspired me to 19all 101 items on my list within two years, and I always remember what I learned from the course: It’s never too late to 20the past wrongdoings.

When I first started to read “Pride and Prejudice”, I thought the novel was going to be the same old1“love story”. However, after reading the first few pages I began to be2that it wasn’t that sort of story, instead it had an interesting insight (洞察力) on marriage, family and social status. I3that the time frame was somewhere back in the late 1800’s. This assumption was just a fact that I took for granted because there was no date4in any part of the novel. From what I got in the class5, this story is supposed to be a timeless piece that can be framed with any time period. This was one thing I would have never picked up by myself.
The6in the story each have their own unique roles, and if you didn’t really take the time to read it7the first time, chances are you will8a lot of information about them. This was what happened to me when I read the story and came to class the next day. Not until then did I9that I had not read it as clear as I had thought. This is also where the discussion helped me catch up on the character roles. Reading again the parts that I thought were important also helped me gain a better10of the story.

Someone said that encouragement is simply reminding a person of the “shoulders” he’s standing on, the heritage he’s been given. I am a mother of three and have recently completed my college degree. My teacher’s last1of the term was called “ Smile”. I am a very friendly person and always 2at everyone. So I thought this would be very 3.
Soon after we were given the project, my 4went out to McDonald’s. We were waiting to be 5, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to 6, and even my husband did. There standing behind me were two homeless men 7.
As I looked down at the short gentleman with 8eyes, he said, “Good day.” The second man stood behind his friend. I 9the second man was mentally challenged(智障) and the blue-eyed gentleman was his helper.
The young 10at the counter asked him what they wanted.
He said, “Coffee is all, Miss.” Because that was all they could 11.
I smiled and asked the young lady to give me two more breakfast meals on a 12tray(托盘). I then said to the men, “ I did not do this for you. God is here 13through me to give you hope.”
When I joined my husband, he smiled at me, saying, “That is 14God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope.”
I returned to 15with this story in hand. I 16“my project” and the teacher read it. Then she looked up at me and said, “Can I 17this with the class?”
I slowly 18and she began to read and that was when I knew that we, as human beings, share this to help people and to be 19.
In my own way I had 20the people at McDonald’s, my husband, sons, teacher, and every person that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student.
