There once lived a young man who was always unhappy and complained about his poverty. One day, he went to see a fortune teller to inquire how to become
1
. The fortune teller said, "Young man, you are already wealthy now."
"Where is my wealth?" the young man asked
2
.
"It is with you. Your
3
is (are) your wealth. You use them to see this world. You use them to see all the
4
things in this world. You can read, study and learn. Your hands are your wealth. You can use them to work. You can use them to hug your beloved ones. Your
5
are your wealth. You can go to any places..." the fortune teller said.
"You call these wealth? Everyone has them," the young man said.
"These are wealth. What you have now are not what others can luckily have. Are you
6
to give your eyes to me? I am willing to give you a lot of money to
7
for them," the fortune teller said.
"No, are you crazy? I am not going to exchange my eyes for money! They are
8
to me!" the young man
9
.
"Precisely, these are wealth to you. You will not exchange them for money. Furthermore, although a lot of people have their wealthy things, they do not
10
them or treasure them. They are not
11
to Heaven for giving them their wealth. They even complain that Heaven is unfair to them. Do you want to
12
one of them before you will treasure them?" the fortune teller said.
Everyone is wealthy. But we should not
13
it for granted. We need to treasure our wealth, take care of it and use it
14
. We should not overuse it because once it is
15
, it is gone forever. Remember it is our wealth that we do not want to lose.

The Creightons were very proud of their son, Frank. After his graduation from university, Frank was drafted into the army and soon after that, he received his call to go to the
1
.
At first the parents heard from him every week and were
2
for his well-being but then a telegram came, saying,"We regret to inform you that your son has been
3
for three weeks
and may have been killed in
4
."The parents were shocked and grieved (伤心的). They felt very
5
without Frank. About three weeks later,
6
, the phone rang. A voice on the other
7
said, "Mother,it's Frank. They
8
me,and I'm going to be all right. I'm in the United States and I'm coming home soon. "
Mrs. Creighton was overjoyed,
9
tears running down her cheeks,"Oh,that's just wonderful, Frank!"
There was
10
for a moment, and then Frank said,"Mother, I want to ask you something important to me. While I've been in the
11
, I've made some real
12
friends. There is one fellow I would like to bring home to meet you and Dad. And I would like to know if it would be all right if he could stay with us. He has
13
else to go."
His mother assured him it would be all right.
Then Frank said,"You see, he was
14
in battle. His face is all disfigured. He lost his
15
, and his right hand is missing. So you see,he feels
16
about how others will
17
him."
Frank's mother stopped to think a minute. Then she said, "Sure Frank, you bring him home—for a
18
,that's it. About him staying with us permanently(永久地), well, we'11 have to think about that." Frank said, "Okay, Mother," and hung up.
A week went by without any
19
from Frank, and then a telegram arrived,"We regret to inform you that your son has
20
his life. We would like you to come and identify the body."
"Why had he done this?" When they walked into the room to identify the body of their son, they found a young man with a disfigured face, one leg missing, and his right hand gone.

One day my math teacher asked me to help him save back-up copies of his work in the computer. I then realized I was able to
1
the grades for all of his classes. I showed him how to copy files from one disk to another and he
2
me.
A few days later he asked me to help him again, because he

how to do it. When I began to show this to him, some students in my class
4
and began to talk among themselves
5
. Later that day, at lunch time, I was
6
by several of them.
“Hey, could you help us change our grades in math? We’ll
7
you…”
I could not believe what I was hearing.I could get paid for something very
8
." All right.I'll do it." The next day my math teacher
9
me to help him out. When he was not paying attention, I began to change their grades from F’s to A’s.
I soon became very
10
among my friends. They began to treat me like a god with a magical
11
. I began to change the grades of students.Word
12
quickly and I became very rich.
Everything was going fine
13
I was called into the headmaster's office. When I got there, my teacher was mad, and the headmaster had an angry
14
in his eyes. "I have known you for three years now.I don't want to
15
what your teacher said, but I'm afraid that I must.He has too much
16
, " he said." Do you have anything to say
17
yourself?" he asked.
"No." I said finally.I did not realize how serious my actions had been.I had violated the
18
of my teacher, and the headmaster. And there was no way
19
.I was forced to leave my school.
That was a good
20
for me.

Dear Kate,
I’m very
1
that you are coming to our school so soon.
2
you arrive, let me introduce
3
you what our school life is like.
Our school is quite famous
4
its long history. It was
5
in the early 1920s. It is a good place
6
we can prepare ourselves well for the future. We have many wonderful teachers who are always ready to
7
help.
8
we pay a lot of attention to how well we do in lessons,
9
high scores is not the only reason to study. The teachers encourage us to try out new ideas and ask questions.
10
their help we have developed all kinds of interests in both Arts and Science. Students can choose to
11
any school clubs they are
12
in. We can also choose the subjects that we want to study. Last term I selected American Literature, because I wanted to learn about famous American writers. This term I chose to attend music classes because my father bought me a piano
13
a birthday present.
14
, I was elected monitor of my class,
15
it can be
16
to be a monitor,
17
I have to do a lot of work and attend many meetings.
18
, being a monitor has taught me a lot, such as caring for others and taking responsibilities and so on. When my class was given the title of “Model Class”, I was
19
than ever before. So being a monitor plays an important part in my school life. I’m very pleased with my work.
I love my school and hope that you will have a pleasant experience here too. I am looking forward to
20
you soon.

I guess I should look upon it as a sweet proof of my tastes ,My 17-year-old son,who had for so long
1
my choice of clothing,now
2
searches through my closet.Wasn’t it only yesterday that he had turned up his
3
at my clothes? When Alyosha was in middle school and
4
beginning to look at his
5
as a creature from outer space,I had once
6
to suggest buying a pair of chinos(斜纹棉布裤)while we were
7
.He said nothing but selected a pair of Jeans. He
8
it on. “Too
9
,”I pronounced. “Just right,”was his reply,
10
he admired himself mirror,completely
11
with the image.I think that set the tone(基调)for the next four years. When it
12
to clothing,the divide seemed
13
.I was chinos,he was outsized jeans; I was neatly pressed shirts, he was loose T’s.
14
began to change about a year ago.I remember the
15
day.I had gone to my
16
in search of a favorite T-shirt.I couldn't find it,
17
it appeared later in the day when Alyosha returned home from school.“That’my shirt,”I said.“Yeah,I know,”said Alyosha as he
18
for the fridge.Since that time,he often—and
19
warning—searched for the new and different in my closet.I asked Alyosha why he wore my clothes. “I like some of them,”he smiled.Warmed by his words,I
20
my tongue as he slipped into a pair of my trousers.

Several years ago, while attending a communication course, I experienced a most unusual process. The instructor asked us to list
1
in our past that we felt
2
of, regretted, or incomplete about and read our lists aloud.
This seemed like a very
3
process, but there’s always some
4
soul in the crowd who will volunteer. The instructor then
5
that we find ways to
6
people, or take some action to right any wrong doings. I was seriously wondering how this could ever
7
my communication.
Then the man next to me raised his hand and volunteered this story: “Making my
8
, I remembered an incident from high school. I grew up in a small town. There was a Sheriff
9
of us kids liked. One night, my two buddies(同伴) and I decided to play a
10
on him.
After drinking a few beers, we climbed the tall water tank in the middle of the town, and wrote on the tank in bright red paint: Sheriff Brown is a s.o.b. (畜生). The next day, almost the whole town saw our glorious
11
. Within two hours, Sheriff Brown had us in his office. My friends told the truth but I lied. No one
12
found out.”
“Nearly 20 years later, Sheriff Brown’s name
13
on my list. I didn’t even know if he was still
14
. Last weekend, I dialed the information in my hometown and found there was a Roger Brown still listed. I tried his number. After a few
15
, I heard, “Hello?” I said, “Sheriff Brown?” Paused. “Yes.” “Well, this is Jimmy Calkins.”
“And I want you to know that I did it.” Paused. “I knew it!” he yelled back. We had a good laugh and a
16
discussion. His closing words were: “Jimmy, I always felt bad for you
17
your buddies got it off their chest, but you were carrying it
18
all these years. I want to thank you for calling me...for your sake.”
Jimmy inspired me to
19
all 101 items on my list within two years, and I always remember what I learned from the course: It’s never too late to
20
the past wrongdoings.

When I first started to read “Pride and Prejudice”, I thought the novel was going to be the same old
1
“love story”. However, after reading the first few pages I began to be
2
that it wasn’t that sort of story, instead it had an interesting insight (洞察力) on marriage, family and social status. I
3
that the time frame was somewhere back in the late 1800’s. This assumption was just a fact that I took for granted because there was no date
4
in any part of the novel. From what I got in the class
5
, this story is supposed to be a timeless piece that can be framed with any time period. This was one thing I would have never picked up by myself.
The
6
in the story each have their own unique roles, and if you didn’t really take the time to read it
7
the first time, chances are you will
8
a lot of information about them. This was what happened to me when I read the story and came to class the next day. Not until then did I
9
that I had not read it as clear as I had thought. This is also where the discussion helped me catch up on the character roles. Reading again the parts that I thought were important also helped me gain a better
10
of the story.

There was once a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She
1
everyone, except her boyfriend. He was
2
there for her. The blind girl said that if she could see the world, she would marry him.
One day, someone donated a pair of

, will you marry me? ” The girl was surprised when she saw that her boyfriend was

This is how human changes when situations change. Only
7
people remember what life was like before. Only few remember the people who were always there for them.
Hold every person close to your heart because you

wake up one day and realize that you have lost a diamond( 钻石) while you were too

10
by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

Someone said that encouragement is simply reminding a person of the “shoulders” he’s standing on, the heritage he’s been given. That’s what happened
1
a young man, the son of a(n)
2
baseball player, was chosen by one of the minor league teams. Hard as he tried, his first season was
3
, and by midseason he expected to be removed
4
day. The coaches were
5
by his failure because he possessed all the characteristics of a superb(杰出的)athlete, but he seemed to have become
6
from his potential.
His
7
seemed darkest one day when he had already struck out his first time at bat. Then he stepped up to the batter’s box again and quickly ran up two strikes. The catcher called a
8
and ran for a conference to discuss strategies. While they were busy, the
9
, standing behind him, spoke casually to the boy.
Then play
10
, the next pitch was thrown and the young man knocked it out of the park. That was the turning
11
. From then on, he played the game with a new confidence and power that quickly
12
the attention of the parent team, and he was called
13
to the majors.
On the day he was leaving for the city, one of his coaches asked him what had caused such a turnaround. The young man replied it was the
14
remark the judge had
15
that day when his baseball career had seemed
16
.
“He told me I reminded him of all the times he had stood
17
my dad in the batter’s box,” the boy explained. “He said I was holding the bat just the way Dad had held it.
18
he told me, ‘I can see his genes in you; you have your father’s
19
.’ After that, whenever I swung the bat, I just
20
I was using Dad’s arms instead of my own.”

I am a mother of three and have recently completed my college degree. My teacher’s last
1
of the term was called “ Smile”. I am a very friendly person and always
2
at everyone. So I thought this would be very
3
.
Soon after we were given the project, my
4
went out to McDonald’s. We were waiting to be
5
, when all of a sudden everyone around us began to
6
, and even my husband did. There standing behind me were two homeless men
7
.
As I looked down at the short gentleman with
8
eyes, he said, “Good day.” The second man stood behind his friend. I
9
the second man was mentally challenged(智障) and the blue-eyed gentleman was his helper.
The young
10
at the counter asked him what they wanted.
He said, “Coffee is all, Miss.” Because that was all they could
11
.
I smiled and asked the young lady to give me two more breakfast meals on a
12
tray(托盘). I then said to the men, “ I did not do this for you. God is here
13
through me to give you hope.”
When I joined my husband, he smiled at me, saying, “That is
14
God gave you to me, Honey, to give me hope.”
I returned to
15
with this story in hand. I
16
“my project” and the teacher read it. Then she looked up at me and said, “Can I
17
this with the class?”
I slowly
18
and she began to read and that was when I knew that we, as human beings, share this to help people and to be
19
.
In my own way I had
20
the people at McDonald’s, my husband, sons, teacher, and every person that shared the classroom on the last night I spent as a college student.
