Inspiration
“Mama, when I grow up, I’m going to be one of those!” I said this after seeing the Capital Dancing Company perform when I was three. It was the first time that my1 took on a vivid form and acted as something important to start my training. As I grew older and was2 to more, my interests in the world of dance3 varied but that little girl’s dream of someday becoming a4 in the company never left me. In the summer of 2005 when I was 18, I received the phone call which made that dream a5; I became a member of the company6 back to 1925.
As I look back on that day now, it surely7 any sense of reality. I believe I stayed in a state of pleasant disbelief8 I was halfway through rehearsals (排练) on my first day. I never actually9 to get the job. After being offered the position, I was completely10. I remember shaking with excitement.
Though I was absolutely thrilled with the change, it did not come without its fair share of11. Through the strict rehearsal period of dancing six days a week, I found it vital to12 up the material fast with every last bit of concentration. It is that extreme13 to detail (细节) and stress on practice that set us14. To then follow those high-energy rehearsals15 a busy show schedule of up to five performances a day, I discovered a new16 of the words “hard work.” What I thought were my physical17 were pushed much further than I thought18. I learned to make each performance better than the last.
Today, when I look at the unbelievable company that I have the great19 of being a part of, not only as a member, but as a dance captain, I see a20 that has inspired not only generations of little girls but a splendid company that continues to develop and grow-and inspires people every day to follow their dreams.

Until 1954 it was thought that no man could run one mile in less than four minutes. As years

It was a cold afternoon on May 6th,1954,when Bannister knew he had a4chance. Bannister had been5hard and was very fit,but the weather conditions were a real6
to him.Describing the7later,Bannister said,“On the way to the track the wind blew strongly. As I8for the start I glanced at the flag.It moved9now.This was the moment when I made my decision.
“The gun fired. My legs10to meet no resistance,as if I was11forward by some unknown force. The noise from the faithful12gave me greater strength.I felt the13of a lifetime had come.”
“I was driven on by a14of fear and pride. My body had long since used up all its energy15it went on running just the same. This was the critical moment when my legs were strong enough to carry me over the last few yards as they16could have done in previous years. When I leapt at(冲向) the17tape,I fell,almost18.”
“I knew I had done it,even before I19the time. The announcement came.‘Result of the one mile...Time,three minutes...’ the rest was20in the noise of excitement.”

There is a small shop about 200 meters from where I live that sells groceries, meat and other basic necessities. About 10 years ago, there was a beggar who would go into the shop every day and ask the owner for a 1. The owner,2 he would love to help, simply didn’t have any jobs available, so he kept3 the man’s request.
This situation continued 4 for a few months, until the owner 5  to give the homeless man a job which 6sweeping outside the shop. Every single day from 5 am, the homeless man was there doing the very 7 he could for the 8, even though it did earn him some pennies. 9 , the owner saw how good a job the man was doing and gave him a job working 10a cashier. He was watched closely to make sure that he didn’t 11 any of the money received from the sales. He was still homeless, after all. The homeless man did a/an 12job as a cashier for over 2 years, and did such a good job that he was promoted to 13 the finances for the whole shop.
To my 14, this was the arrangement up until 2 years ago, when the owner  15 . In his will, he only had one 16 , to give the whole shop to the now stable, “homeless” man. Now, I could walk into that shop and see him working as hard as17, with his own business that is still18 and active 10 years after getting his job as a sweeper.
From this story, we can probably get the inspiration: work hard and give everything your best effort, even if it isn’t your 19 situation, it very well may turn out to 20some day in the future.

This little story I’m about to tell you happened when I was about 11 years old, and I’II never forget it. I was at my friend Jenny’s 1 after school one day, and we were doing (or not doing) homework.. 2 I was there, Jenny’s mom came over to visit.
I don’t remember her name3 what her face looked like. I just remember her hands, her voice and the4 she taught me.
I can still see her hand 5 for mine in our introduction. 6 were so beautiful, I thought; rich, dark skin7 complemented(涂了) by the orange colored polish on her nails. Then I 8 her saying, and not at all in a condescending(居高临下的) 9 .“Oh no, that is NOT how you shake hands. Let me show you 10.”
After that, I just remember her voice 11 the importance of a good handshake, conveying(传递) a positive sense of self, looking at 12 person in the eye, making that first moment matter…I think in that exchange I first understood13.
I respected her for 14 the time to teach me about one of those subtleties(细微之处) in life. I appreciated the fact 15 she didn’t look down upon me because I was 11 or because I didn’t know something. And so because of that I felt somewhat respected. I mean the 16 she treated me. It felt good to be 17 like a real person. I also appreciate her idea that 18 someone doesn’t pay attention to something, be patient and point him or her19 the right direction. I20 her every time I meet someone and shake hands. And I’m so thankful for her little lesson.

Back in the 15th century, in a tiny village in Germany, lived a family with eighteen children.Eighteen! In order1to keep food on the table, the father, a goldsmith by2, worked almost eighteen hours a day at his trade.Despite their seemingly3condition, two of the eldest children had a dream. They both wanted to pursue their talent for art,4they knew well that their father would never be able to5either of them to study at the Academy.
After many long discussions at night in their6bed, the two boys finally worked out a pact. They would toss (掷) a coin. The 7would go down into the nearby mines and, with his earnings,8his winning brother for the academy. Then, in four years, he would support the Other one. Then Albrecht Durer won the toss and9to Nuremberg.Albert went down into the dangerous mines and, for the next four years,10his brother, whose work at the academy was almost an immediate sensation.By the time he graduated, he was beginning to11considerable fees for himself.
When the young artist12home and said to his brother, "And now, Albert, blessed brother of mine, now it is your13. Now you can go to the Academy to pursue your dream, and I will14you."
Albert rose and wiped the15from his cheeks."No, brother.I cannot go to Nuremberg. It is too16for me.Look…look what four years in the mines have done to my17! I cannot even hold a glass, much less make delicate lines on canvas18a pen or a brush."
More than 450 years have19.By now, among Albrecht Durer's hundreds of masterful portraits, "The Praying Hands" is one20creation that can catch the world's hearts.

High school seems bigger. There are1kids and it’s a totally new environment. It could be a2time for new students,3,in fact, it isn’t really that bad.
The first day of course is always terrifying, but, then again, the first day of middle school was probably the4.Of course you might get lost during the first few days5your classes, but after a while what seems like a large school really isn’t.
One thing that’s really cool about high school is that there are so many more classes that you can6.For example, if you like7,there are many art classes. At the same time, there are8classes, which you can’t take in middle school9photography and psychology(心理学).There are many new things in high school that make it much more10.
In high school, you’re able to join more clubs, play more sports, and take part in more11,and at the same time make new friends with kids with the same12as you. Also, these activities can give you a13to learn something that you might not have had the opportunity to learn in14.
High school is different15everyone, but there’s one thing that’s16.You’re going to have just as much fun here as you17before. But having fun isn’t enough though! You’re18so you have to be more responsible. Everything changes when you get19,but the changes aren’t that bad. You20worry too much about growing up.

I watched as my little brother was cahught in the act. He sat in the corner of the living room, a1in one hand and my father’s hymnbook(赞美诗集) in the other. Hearing my father coming, my brother2it slightly. He sensed that he had done something3. I saw he had4my father’s new book and scribbled(乱写)on the first page in pen. Now,5at my father fearfully, we6waited for his punishment. My father7his book, looked at it, and then sat down without saying a word. He was a clergyman and the holder of several degrees. For him, books were knowledge, and yet, he8his children.Instead of9my brother, he sat down,10the pen from my brother’s hand and wrote in the book himself, “John’s work. 1959. aged three.”
The years and the books came and went. Our family11what all families go through. We12knew our parents loved us and that one13was the book by the piano. From time to time we14open it, look at the scribbles, read my father’s expression of love and feel15.
Now I know that through this16act my father taught us how every17in life has a positive side-if we are18to look at it from another angle. But he also taught us about what really matters in life:19,not objects; tolerance, not judgment; love, no anger. Love is at the very20of a family.
When thinking about these, I smile and whisper, “Thank you, Dad. ”

4then, if we take our time and 5 in a town for a while, we may get to know it better. When we 6it as a whole, we begin to have some 7, which even the best guide-books do not
answer. Why is the town just 8this —— this shape, this plan, this size? Why do its streets 9 in this particular way, and not in any 10way?
Here even the best guide-book 11us. One can’t find the information in it about how a town has developed to the 12appearance. It may not describe the original 13of a town. However, one may get some idea of what it 14look like by walking around the town. One can also imagine 15the town was first planned and built. Then one can learn more about in what direction the town 16to develop.
What is the 17of studying towns in this way?For me, it is 18 a matter that one gets a greater depth of pleasure by visiting and seeing a town with one’s own eyes. A 19visit to a town may help one better understand why it is attractive 20just reading about it in a guide-book.

On a cold winter morning, my mother and I were walking home from a pizza store. We were dressed warmly and equipped with the video we had been1to watch. I was feeling a little2 , as I was carrying our shopping bags of snacks and the video.
They were so heavy that I decided to3some things. So I started to walk towards the garbage can when I noticed a poor man4his bike out of the restaurant in front of us. He held a paper bag with his dirty hand. He5over to another nearby garbage can and started6 it.
I suddenly felt very7. I knew this man would take all he could get,8 I walked up to him and 9the drink and some snacks over to him. The man, with lines on his face and wrinkles on his forehead, looked up in10 and took what I gave him.
A huge smile11 across his face and this12 me to feel indescribable satisfaction. I felt like I couldn’t be 13with myself, but then he said: “Wow, first someone gives me this sandwich, then this drink, and now some14 food; this is my daughter’s15 day!”
He thanked me happily and started off16 his bike. I even heard him whistling a song as he rode away.
I now17 what is meant by the saying “giving is getting”. Everyone in the world needs help, everyone can18 help and everyone will be helped by showing19.
The image of that man’s happiness caused by my small gift appears in my mind20 I have the chance to do something nice.
