Family is the most important part of human life. There, we
1
and learn to show
2
like: love, fondness, responsibility and friendship. We
3
a lot of time with our family members—in a daily life and during
4
days like festivals or something like that. In our century the model of one-child family began to be fashionable.
5
there are many extended families, too, where grandmother, grandfather, uncles, aunts, nieces, daughters, sons etc. live under the same
6
.
That situation, when children live with their parents, has both advantages and disadvantages. Grandparents can help their
7
children with looking after and bringing up their grandchildren. Grandparents may read fairy tales, talk fascinating stories about the past,
8
cards or chess with one another, walk a dog, help in the
9
...
It is very good, when a family is full of love. Sometimes living together makes many serious
10
. Teenagers, who are very naughty and quarrel with each other and
11
unpleasant situations and atmosphere(气氛) at home. They often
12
loud or strong music,
13
annoys the elders.
A lot of people nowadays rent even a small flat to save some
14
, which they lacked living with their parents.
15
, mother-in-law can teach her daughter-in-law many necessary things, but
16
she does not interfere with(干涉) her marriage affairs.
I think that living together with family
17
be very enjoyable and cheerful, but only in case when we
18
our elders and we look in the future.
19
should be safe and feel comfortable in their home. It should be a place where we
20
and where we spend a lot of our leisure time.

A strong wind was blowing hard, thunder was rumbling (雷声隆隆地响), and lightning flashed across the dark sky. Rain was

down; it looked as if heaven had been broken open.
Gleams of light appeared from windows of faraway houses,

like jewels in all the dark.
A

The storm was over and the sky cleared. Feeling very

A man found the cocoon (茧) of a moth (蛾). He took it home so that he could
1
the moth come out of the cocoon. On that day a small
2
appeared. He sat and watched the moth for several hours as the moth struggled to
3
the body through that little hole. Soon it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had
4
as far as it could and it could go no further. It just seemed to be stuck. So the man, out of his kindness, decided to help the moth. He took a pair of scissors and
5
the remaining bit of the cocoon. The
6
then came out easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriven (无用的) wings. The man continued to watch the moth because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and
7
to be able to support the
8
, which would get smaller in time. Neither happened! In fact, the little moth spent the rest of its life
9
around with a swollen body and shriven wings. It was
10
able to fly.
What the man in his kindness didn’t
11
was that the small cocoon and the
12
of the moth to get through the
13
opening was a way to push fluid (液体)
14
the body of moth
15
its wings so that it would be ready to fly
16
it got out of the cocoon. Freedom and
17
would come only after the struggle. By taking the struggle away, he also took away the moth’s health.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. If we were to
18
our lives without any difficulties, we would become disabled. We would not be as
19
as what we could have been. Give every opportunity a chance. Leave no room for

Many people of my generation(代,一代) say that there is no hope for the future because of the way that
1
people behave today.
Their first argument(论点) is that when we were young we used to look after the
2
people in our community and help them. They also say that young people today don’t
3
about anything or anyone. However, I think the reason why we looked after older people was that we had no
4
. People had to live with their
5
and grandparents because they had no money. Young people today earn more and have more
6
to live where they want.
Their second argument is that in our day we didn’t expect to be given jobs ---and that young people now don’t look for jobs, but just complain(抱怨) about
7
. On the other hand, things were easier in the past and it was always easy to get a job if you had friends and contacts(关系). It is really
8
today.
In conclusion I think there is hope for the
9
. This generation, like generations before them, has new
10
as well as old problems. If they learn from our mistakes the world will be a better place in future.

When I smoked with my family, I would feel so
1
and good that nothing else in the world seemed so
2
. I thought that smoking weed (烟草) was okay since many of my family members and people at my school smoked.
3
ever happened to them.
4
I started smoking weed a lot more during lunch and after school. I never thought
5
of it. At that time I just wanted to smoke. Then I began to
6
lin school. I would
7
classes, come home late and spend all my money. I would spend
8
8 to 18 dollars a day. I never thought
9
that marijuana (大麻) had a bad effect on those things. Maybe my coming to class high (神智恍惚) was the reason why I was failing or coming home late. As I continued to smoke marijuana, I began to notice that I would always have the strong desire to smoke and that I would get
10
cigarettes if I smoked those, but I don’t.
11
I have learned more about marijuana, I have
12
the amount of marijuana that I use. I don’t want marijuana to be the most important in my life. I’m not smoking every day, and not spending as much money. Since I have
13
on my habit, I am
14
more money. I’m ready to go back to school and do good, so that I can make myself
15
. Everyone is always saying how weed
16
your mind and how it solves problems. I think it only brings more
17
. Marijuana is not good for your body or your brain. I’m not trying to tell you not to smoke, I’m just letting you know that marijuana can be
18
to your health, and
19
it may cause some long term negative (负面的) effects. Help yourself now, before it is too late. I don’t want to lecture anyone, just

I had always loved music and dreamed of being a musician, travelling to different countries, meeting lots of people and doing something I loved to earn my money.
1
, my parents had a farm and I didn’t want to do that—I wanted to do something
2
. However, I had always been shy and too nervous to try playing
3
in public.
I had been playing the
4
since I was ten years old, but the idea of playing in front of other people was very
5
.
I started one day,
6
la local youth club advertised a talent show—anybody who could play an instrument or sing could put his name down to be in concert. I
7
myself up.
When the day of the show came, I was so
8
that I couldn’t eat.
9
was the first time I had played in front of other people and I felt
10
unsure of myself. I had no idea whether I was
11
good and was worried that no one would like me.
When my turn came, I played my favorite tune and I even started to
12
! I could not hear what I sounded like, but to my surprise, I eventually forgot about all the people in the audience and started to enjoy myself. When the song ended, everyone clapped and some people
13
!
After the show a man
14
up to me to say how much he enjoyed my
15
. He said that he had a rock band, and they needed to
16
la guitar player. He asked me to come along the next day to have a try. This successful trial turned my dream into
17
. In the following days, we
18
around a lot, playing in concerts in lots of places around the world. Sometimes we would enter competitions and once we went on TV.
We really enjoyed ourselves and life was like a big long holiday. As we became more successful, we had to work harder and practice more and eventually I became
19
of travelling so much. But now, nearly fifty years later, I look back on those carefree days of my
20
as among the best moments of my life.

My 4-year-old son now enjoys posting letters. He has formed the
1
of drawing pictures, writing his name on them, and then
2
the artwork in an envelope. He then insists on
3
his handwork to the neighbors, and a mail box he
4
belongs to the elderly couple who live next door. To be
5
, I didn’t think much of it, but I had
6
to warn my neighbors of the drawings
7
appearing in their letterboxes—I just didn’t have the
8
to do so, because I was a little busy recently.
On Tuesday of last week, I was walking down to school to collect my son when I
9
Mary, my elderly neighbor,
10
at her mail box. She said, “Jodie, is it your little son that has been posting items in my letterbox to me?” I was at once
11
, “Oh yes, Mary, it is. I’m sorry. I meant to tell you…” She cut me off, “Jodie, I just love his mail. I’ve
12
every item he has sent. You don’t know how much
13
the letters has made my day. I just love them.” While I was walking down to school after our
14
, many thoughts came to me. Mary doesn’t have a lot to fill her days,
15
she was a mother to a number of children herself who receives fairly regular visitors. The small
16
of getting some mail—pictures drawn by the hand of a young child—has brought
17
to her days, just as my visit to my grandparents does.
I have decided that my son should
18
this practice. He should also start sending some items to his grandparents in Perth as well. It will most
19
make their day.
It’s doing the little, simple things that can often make a big

Last weekends, my kids along with few other kids from the neighborhood volunteered to help me wash my car. My 10-year-old daughter came up with the idea of
1
other people’s cars as well. It was pretty
2
outside and I had no plans to
3
to be in the bright sun. She
4
wanted to give lemonade(柠檬汽水)to passersby for free. I had seen little kids
5
and sell fresh lemonade for a small cost but not free. Although I felt
6
, I decided to help her.
7
she asked me, “What if we
8
this a smile car wash?” I couldn’t hold back my tears and
9
her and the other kids to go outside the house and come up with
10
ideas. While I kept myself busy in drying the car, the gang walked up to me with a(n)
11
with beautiful images of smiles. They had “Free Car Wash” written on it and the
12
of their exercise was “smile”. It was pretty neat to see a team of kids ranging 5-11 years with the
13
to do something for others.
All that seemed
14
and came right from their heart. Nothing seemed to
15
to them: their playtime, the heat outside—they just wanted to
16
others and do something nice in the community!
I helped them make some fresh lemonade and brought out some additional
17
to help clean cars. The passersby were
18
and one even shouted back to them saying “God Bless You, my kids…” One of them even tried giving them 5 dollars, which they refused. A pretty heartwarming
19
! I feel blessed by being
20
by such wonderful and loving souls.

Few countries will admit officially that they employ spies.
1
, from time to time a spy is caught and the public sometimes gets a glimpse (一瞥) of what is going on behind
2
scenes. Spies are rarely
3
these days. They are frequently tried and imprisoned. If a(n)
4
is important enough, he is sometimes
5
to an enemy country in exchange for an equally important spy whom the enemy had caught. Few people have the
6
to witness such exchanges, for they are carried out in
7
One cold
8
morning last year, a small blue car stopped on a
9
in a provincial town in northern Germany.
10
men dressed in heavy black coats got out and stood on the bridge.
11
they waited there, they kept on looking over the side. Fifteen minutes later, a motor-boat sailed past and
12
the river-bank. Three men got
13
the boat and looked up at the bridge. The men on the bridge
14
walked down the stone steps leading to the
15
. No words were spoken when they
16
the men from the boat. After a while, the
17
moved off and three men
18
the bridge. Now only two of them were
19
black coats. The third was dressed in a light grey jacket. Anyone who had been watching the
20
might not realized that two master spies had been exchanged on that cold winter morning.

Learning experiences happen to us throughout our lives. Not long ago, I had one that I would like to
1
.
I was going to Marblehead with my sailboat team. The team was racing down the highway at 85 mph
2
we realized we were
3
. Luckily, we saw a rest area ahead. I had a brand-new $20 bill. I was so
4
because I had never had that kind of cash before. But spending it on
5
seemed like throwing it away. We all rushed into the pizza line.
6
I got a pizza and a drink, and walked to my table. About halfway through the meal, I
7
I had not actually handed any money to the cashier. I had just
8
out, and nobody had noticed. I felt terrible.
My conscience (良心) opened its mouth and swallowed me in one big bite. I couldn’t
9
over it. I just couldn’t go back to the cashier and
10
for my stolen pizza. I was so upset that I
11
to give myself the pleasure of an ice cream for
12
that someone would say, “Hey, Jeff, why not you use the change
13
the pizza instead of that nice, new $20 bill?” I was not so
14
of my cash now. For the next two years, whenever I was
15
of the “pizza incident”, I would say to myself, “Don’t think about it…”
I have learned two things from this
16
. Maybe I was a fool for
17
in to my conscience, and being too stupid to appreciate a
18
pizza. But the real lesson is that even if you get away with what you have done, your conscience will
19
up with you.
This reflects the saying, “Coward (懦夫) dies a thousand deaths, a hero dies one.” I was a coward and have felt terrible about that incident at least a thousand times. If I had been a “
20
” and gone back to pay for the pizza, I would have felt a little uncomfortable about it only one, or maybe twice.
