DNP is a dangerous chemical that’s been linked to 63 deaths, yet it is available online as a slimming pill.

It’s used in the production of pesticides(杀虫剂), chemical dyes and wood preservatives. But on many websites in Australia, it’s sold as a fat-burner and as an easy way to lose weight without dieting. The chemical is being used in diet pills that promise to speed up the body’s metabolism(新陈代谢) and remove fat. But the rapid weight loss can come at a high cost.

Most recently, DNP slimming pills were linked to death of 23-year-old British medical student Sarah Houston, who died after taking pills containing DNP that she had ordered on the internet. The night before she died, Houston told her roommates that she felt hot, her eyes yellowed and her breathing became difficult. The following day she was found dead in her room.

Her parents, Geoff and Gina Houston, say they hope their daughter’s death will be a warning to anyone who wants to buy DNP, or to see it as a quick way for weight loss. “ At the suggestion of one of the police officers, I went on Google and looked up DNP,” Gina says. “What I came up with was a list of horrible symptoms and side effects, and it’s the side effects that killed Sarah.”

A study on DNP published last year linked the chemical to 62 deaths around the world. The Food Standards Agency in the UK has given a warning about the risks of DNP, describing the drug as“extremely dangerous to human health”.

DNP works by increasing the body’s rate to burn energy and fat but this can lead to symptoms including sickness, vomiting, dizziness, rapid or heavy breathing, headaches and an irregular heartbeat. In the worst cases, DNP can lead to death.

People may believe that because they can order weight-loss products on the internet and have them sent to Britain, then those products must be safe and approved. This is clearly not true in the case of DNP.

Ticket prices for international fans attending the football World Cup in Brazil will start at $90(£59, 69 euros) for initial group matches.

Football’s governing body FIFA announced that the cheapest ticket for overseas fans for the final on 13 July was $440(£288) and the most expensive $990(£650).

The tournament starts on 12 June next year, with the first game being played in Sao Paulo.

Tickets will go on sale from 20 August.

Fans have until 10 October to apply and a ballot will be held to decide which of these applications are successful.

Only later will tickets be sold on a first come, first served basis.

In total about three million tickets will be available for fans.

For Brazilian nationals the cheapest tickets start at $15. These are only available for students, those aged over 60 and people on social welfare programmes. For other Brazilians tickets start at $30.

The lowest price paid for a ticket in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa was $20, also for group stage matches in the special category set aside exclusively for residents.

The governing body had previously said that tickets in Brazil would be the “cheapest ever”.

The FIFA ticket website will include a map of the ground that shows the location of different categories of tickets.

This meant there would be“no surprises”over where fans would end up sitting, said FIFA marketing director Thierry Weil, who is in charge of ticketing strategy.

Supporters can request a maximum of four seats per match, and for a maximum of seven matches.

He said there would be a reselling system run by FIFA, if people were unable to attend games for which they had bought tickets.

At least 400,000 tickets will be reserved exclusively for residents of Brazil, with about 50,000 for construction workers who were involved in building and upgrading the grounds for the tournament.

Perhaps we’ll always be fools when it comes to figuring out the origins of April Fool’s Day. Some historians say it has something to do with the change of the calendar. Others say that’s complete nonsense---it has to do with the change of the seasons. Regardless of how it started, it has developed into the silliest day of the year.

The history of April Fool’s Day isn’t clear, but some believe it began in France around 1582, with the reform of the calendar under Charles IX. The Gregorian calendar was introduced, moving New Year’s Day to January 1st, instead of the previous march25—April 1. Because news traveled slowly, some people knew nothing about the changes of several years. Still others refused to acknowledge the change and continued to celebrate it on the last day of the former celebration, April 1. These people were called“fools”.

But maybe it’s just that time of the year---the turn of winter to spring---that makes everyone a bit excited and ready for some fun. After all, the Romans had a festival named Hilaria that fell on March 25th.

Today, April Fool’s Day has spread throughout much of the world, with cultures giving their own idea on the day. Here’s a look at some of the silliness.

In England, jokes are only played in the morning. It is considered bad luck to play a practical joke on someone in the afternoon. In Scotland, April Fool’s Day is celebrated over two days and is also known as“April Gawk”.The second day of the celebration involves tricks. It is known as Taily Day. In Portugal, April Fool’s Day is celebrated on the Sunday or Monday before Lent(大斋期). Tricksters throw flour at friends.

And America? Anything goes. From simple silly lies to complex tricks. What is your favorite April Fool’s joke?

An American man who received the nation’s first full face transplant has married a fellow burns victim at the site where he was injured.

Dallas Wiens, 27, married Jamie Nash, 29, at a Texas church where a severe electrical accident destroyed his face and eyesight in 2008 as he was making repairs to a window, reports The Dallas Morning News.

The couple met in 2011 at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Fort Worth while participating in a support group for burns victims. Wiens had spent months in the hospital after his accident at Ridglea Baptist Church, in which his head touched a high-voltage power line. Doctors there skillfully made a featureless face for him that qualified him to receive a full-face transplant in a Boston hospital. Wiens has already undergone more than 30 surgeries to restore function and form to his face.

Nash received burns to 70 per cent of her body in a car trash in 2010, after texting while driving. She wore a pink gown for the ceremony that exposed the scarring on her back and arms. Both the bride and groom have been married before and have three children, aged 5, 6 and 10, between them.

“Things happened that I didn’t think ever could be possible for me, and you made them possible,” Nash said, during the ceremony. “You gave me hope, and you gave me tender love that I will always treasure.”

The groom, Dallas Wiens, became the first in the nation to receive a full-face transplant after a 2008 power line accident.

The couple made their way for the wedding aisle to Bruno Mars’ Just the Way You Are.

“I think their confidence in their healing process and getting better just made them a perfect match,” said Ethan Gloger, a wedding guest and member of the administrative staff in Parkland’s burn unit.
