As a senior three student, it won’t take long after I graduate. Now, I have much to share with my fellow student.

Firstly, I’d like to show my appreciation to those stand by me all the way, teachers, parents and friends included. Without their help or advice, my life will be different. Secondly, it’s high time for I to say sorry to the classmates whom I hurt or misunderstood. I firm believe that communication and smiles act as bridges to friendship. Thirdly, I’ve made my mind to make every effort to study, so hard work is the key to a success. Finally I want to express my hope which all the young fellows can make full use of time, because time and tide wait for no man.

A: Arguments are pointless

B: Your parents only want what’s best for you

C: Everyone’s opinion matters only as much as you want them to

D: You learn by doing

E: Your emotions are under your control

F: You aren’t stuck in any situation

Life is the greatest teacher

There always comes a moment when I wonder where I will end up and this moment always serves as a strong motivation for me to learn life lesson. I’ve learned a great many things, but these are the lessons that I wish I’d learned earlier:

61. _________

There was a time when everyone’s opinion was mine as well. Whatever preferences I formerly held were dashed in the face of another’s. This most likely came from a need to please others. Remember that your opinion matters just as much as the next guy’s, whether they make more money than you or are less popular than you. Everyone’s opinion holds the same weight.

62._________

Drama, chaos and emotional unrest---these were what took up most of my time as a teenager. If I had heard someone said bad things behind my back. I’d be angry. Go crazy. Looking back on those tantrums now. I’m not too surprised. After all, when you have little self control, anything is possible. The lessons here is, remain aware of how you react.

63.________

Will one small quarrel among friends decide the fate of the entire universe? In my world it felt like it. I just wanted so much to be right and for them so much to be wrong. But in the end, it only resulted in me wasting my time and in the other person storming off in frustration. Is there really a point to arguing? Unless it’s absolutely necessary. I’ve learned that it’s better to hold your breath on things you can’t control at all. Arguing to change someone’s mind is one of them.

64.________

I’m not saying every parent wants what’s best for you (there are outliers), but in general, parents do what they do for you in your best interest. My parents used to make me do the dishes, cook dinner, sweep the floors, mow the lawn, take out the garbage… the list goes on and on. And at every turn, I’d whine and complain. I’d eventually end up doing it. Now, I honestly see the value in having learned those skills. I can efficiently cook and clean up after myself.

65. _______

Whenever I’d lose a friend, get an awful grade, or disappoint my parents. I stewed in my own muck. Waiting for the bad moments to go away seemed to be the only solution. Fortunately, I know now that you don’t have to be stuck in bad situations. You can go out and create better ones. It all depends on perspective; on how you see the situation. Viewing everything as a learning experience makes life more pleasurable, even during the hard times. You aren’t stuck. You can move on.

I’m glad to have learned these lessons the way I did. Each experience helped shape me to become a better person. I don’t know if any young people are reading this, but if they are. I’d like to say this: “Listen to life and its experiences. Everyone goes through mostly the same things.”

At Denver there was an inflow of passengers into the coaches on the eastbound B.&M. express. In one coach there sat a very pretty young woman dressed in graceful taste. Among the newcomers were two young men, one was handsome with a brave, open features and manner; the other a glum-faced person, heavily built and roughly dressed. The two were handcuffed (上手拷) together.

When they sat down in the only unoccupied seat opposite the girl, her glance fell upon them with a distant, swift disinterest; then with a lovely smile she held out her hand.

“Well, Mr. Easton, if you will make me speak first, I suppose I must. Don’t you ever recognize old friends when you meet them in the West?”

The younger man wakened himself sharply at the sound of her voice, seemed to struggle with a slight embarrassment which he threw off instantly, and then clasped her fingers with his left hand.

“It’s Miss Fairchild,” he said, with a smile, “I’ll ask you to excuse the other hand; “it’s otherwise engaged just at present.”

He slightly raised his right hand, bound(捆绑) at the wrist(手腕) by the shining “bracelet(手镯)” to the left one of his companion. The glad look in the girl’s eyes slowly changed to a confused horror. Difficult though it was to explain the present trouble, Easton, with a little laugh, as if amused, was struggling to speak again when the other stopped him. The glum-faced man had been watching the girl’s face with hidden glances from his keen, sharp-sighted eyes.

“You’ll excuse me for speaking, Miss, but, I see you’re familiar with the officer here. If you’ll ask him to speak a word for me when we get to the prison, he’ll do it, and it’ll make things easier for me there. He’s taking me to Leavenworth prison. It’s seven years for counterfeiting(伪造罪).”

“Oh!” said the girl, with a deep breath and returning color. “So that is what you are doing out here? An officer!”

“My dear Miss Fairchild,” said Easton, appearing quite calm, “I had to do something and...”

“And so,” said the girl, warmly, “now you are one of these fashionable Western heroes, and you ride and shoot and go into all kinds of dangers. That’s different from the Washington life. You have been missed from the old crowd.”

The girl’s eyes went back, widening a little, to rest upon the shining handcuffs.

“Don’t worry about them, Miss,” said the other man. “All officers handcuff themselves to their prisoners to keep them from getting away. Mr. Easton knows his business.”

“Will we see you again soon in Washington?” asked the girl.

“Not soon, I think,” said Easton. “My butterfly days are over, I fear.”

“I love the West,” said the girl pointlessly, “Mamma and I spent the summer in Denver….”

“Say, Mr. Officer,” said the glum-faced man in a deep voice. “This isn’t quite fair. I’m needing a drink, and haven’t had a smoke all day. Haven’t you talked long enough? Take me into the smoker now, won’t you? I’m half dead for a tobacco pipe.”

The bound travelers rose to their feet, Easton with the same slow smile on his face.

“I can’t deny a demand for tobacco,” he said, lightly. “It’s the one friend of the unfortunate. Good-bye, Miss Fairchild. Duty calls, you know.” He quickly held out his hand for a farewell.

The two men went down the passage into the smoker.

The two passengers in a seat nearby had heard most of the conversation. One of them said: “That officer’s a good sort of guy. Some of these Western fellows are all right.”

“Pretty young to hold an office like that, isn’t he?” asked the other.

“Young!” shouted the first speaker, “why — Oh! Didn’t you catch on? Say — can’t you see who is the real prisoner? did you ever know an officer to handcuff a prisoner to his right hand?”

Group buying is one of the fastest growing trends in South Africa today. Industry leaders are confident that the growth potential remains strong since group buying is location-specific(区域性的). Start-up costs are low and profit room remains high, so many sites continue to receive invested money despite widespread criticism and Facebook’s decision to phase out of the deals business due to privacy concerns.

In the early stages of all industries, some companies fail because they cannot compete with stronger companies in difficult economic conditions. To deal with difficult conditions, an alarming number of businesses are developing group buying websites in places like China and India, so the increase of group buying in South Africa is nothing more than a natural progression into the international mainstream.

The group buying concept is fairly new and consumers have accepted this concept because they can now make full use of the rich information available on the Internet. Group buying is convenient and easy so it works. Anyone can view a site, join a mailing list, subscribe to RSS or print out a coupon(优惠券). The current group buying structure offered by the industry leaders works although there are still challenges to overcome.

Perhaps, the future of group buying is tied to the joining together of social media and mobile devices. Mobile devices are with us wherever we go and almost everyone is using some type of social media site like Facebook or Twitter to stay informed. Using GPS and social media technology to provide real time location-specific promotions would be beneficial to every consumer looking for the best deals in town.

Pause for a moment and think about it! What is better than signing on to your phone while having fun in town and you receive a real time information that your favorite shop across the street is offering a killer deal?

When should people be made to retire? 55? 65? Should there be a compulsory (强制的) age limit?

Many old people work well into their 70s and 80s, running families, countries or corporations. Other people, however, despite being fit and highly talented, are forced to retire in their fifties or even earlier because of the regulations of a company or the nation. This essay will examine whether people should be allowed to continue working as long as they want or whether they should be encouraged to retire at a particular stage.

Some people think there are several arguments for allowing older people to continue working as long as they are able. First of all, older employees have a large amount of knowledge and experience which can be lost to a business or organization if they are made to retire. A second point is that older employees are often extremely faithful employees and are more willing to carry out company policies than younger less committed staff. However, a more important point is regarding the attitudes in society to old people. To force someone to resign or retire at 60 indicates that the society does not value the input of these people and that effectively their useful life is over. Age is irrelevant to a working life. Surely if older employees are told they cannot work after 60, this is age discrimination. That they become old does not necessarily mean they are going to be sick. Old people could be more aware, experienced and committed than some youngsters.

Others, however, think that allowing older people to work indefinitely is not a good policy. Age alone is no guarantee of ability. Old people are only ambitious workaholics who are too selfish and egocentric to believe that a younger person could do better. Actually, many younger employees have more experience or skills than older staff, who may have been stuck in one area or unit for most of their working lives. Having compulsory retirement allows new ideas in an organization. In addition, without age limits, however, many people would continue to work purely because they did not have any other plans or roles. A third point of view is that older people should be rewarded by society for their life’s labor by being given generous pensions and the freedom to enjoy their leisure. We now have youngsters who can’t find jobs because old people are choosing not to retire. Old people are not retiring because this new generation of “old people” think they will never die due to modern advances in medicine.

With many young people unemployed or frustrated in low-level positions, there are often calls to compulsorily retire older workers. However, this can affect the older individual’s freedom and right to work and can deprive(剥夺) society of valuable experience and insights. I feel that giving workers more flexibility and choice over their retirement age will benefit society and the individual.

  A. the young people have more creative spirits

B. modern advances in medicine make old people never die

  C. pensions and freedom are not given to the old now

48. The passage is arranged as follows:

  A. B. C. D.

  B. The author is against lengthening the retirement age.

Urban legends are stories that are told and believed in many places.Too many places,in fact.It simply isn’t credible that the same unlikely events take place in so many different towns. For some reason, though, that particular set of events appeals to the imagination and the tale spreads.

A very common North American urban legend concerns a mad man in the woods.A dangerous mad man has escaped from a hospital for the mentally ill.At some point in his life he has lost a hand and it has been replaced by a hook.A boy and a girl are out dating, sitting in a car. They hear on the radio that the area is dangerous,so they drive off. When they arrive home they find a bloodstained hook hanging on the door handle of the car door next to the girl.

Missing kidney(肾)stories are fairly common.Of course, the details are variable. It might be a woman waking up in a strange hotel in Bangkok,or a man finding himself in a cold bath in Toronto.or a young man with faint memories of wild disco party, but they all find a flesh wound, and discover that one of their kidneys has been removed and, probably, sold.

The back seat killer has plenty of drama.A woman gets into her Car late at night.Another car follows her, speeding, flashing lights and really frightening her.She gets home and keeps on pressing the horn. Her husband runs out.The chasing car stops. The husband demands to know why the driver has been frightening his wife.He says he saw a strange man get into the back of the car as the wife got in,and then hide. They go and look, and there is a dangerous mad man...

A.The mad man left it there as a warning.

B.The mad man narrowly escaped being injured in a car accident.

C.The mad man had just been about to attack the girl.

D.The boy had meant to frighten the girl with it.

43.What do we know about the three people mentioned in the third paragraph?

A.They had their kidney removed when they were unconscious.

    B. They sold their kidneys for profit.

C.They were suffering loss of memories.

D.They had been wounded before the accident.

44.How should we describe the second driver in the 4th paragraph?
