[1]Today, millions of people want to learn or improve their English but it is difficult to find the best method. Is it better to study in Britain or America or to study in your own country?

[2]The advantages of going to Britain seem obvious.Firstly, you will be able to listen to the language all the time you are in the country. You will be surrounded completely by the language wherever you go.Another advantage is that you have to speak the language if you are with other people. In Italy, it is always possible, in the class, to speak Italian if you want to and the learning is slower.

[3]On the other hand,        staying at home to study. You don’t have to make big changes to your life.As well as this, it is also a lot cheaper than going to Britain but it is never possible to achieve the results of living in the UK.If you have a good teacher in Italy, I think you can learn in a more concentrated way than being in Britain without going to a school.

[4]So, in conclusion, I think that if you have enough time and enough money, the best choice is to spend some time in the UK.This is simply not possible for most people, so being here in Italy is the only(可行的)viable option. The most important thing to do in this situation is to maximize your opportunities: to speak only English in class and to try to use English whenever possible outside the class.

If a noisy neighbor is blasting music at all hours of the day and night, drowning out your phone conversations and interrupting your sleep, you can call the police. But what is a whale to do?
Natural noise from waves, wind, rain and even earthquakes is common in oceans. Unfortunately, man-made noise from oil and gas drilling, sonar, and ships is also present.
Low frequency noise has doubled off the California coast every decade since the nineteen sixties. The main reasons are ships’ propellers(螺旋桨). They not only generate continuous low frequency sound, some propellers cavitate(形成气穴), which means they create air bubbles that collapse, creating loud popping sounds.
Whales use low frequency calls to communicate across thousands of miles of ocean. They are threatened by noise pollution because it can prevent them from contacting each other and from locating their foods. Endangered humpback and right whales, which use fibrous baleen to strain food from the water, are the most at risk.

Scientists studying right whales off Canada’s east coast have discovered that whales are sending louder calls through the water to make themselves heard. Because they invest more energy in making calls, they have less energy available for finding food and mating. Other scientists measuring whale calls against background noise pollution have discovered that right whales have lost about eighty percent of their normal communication area. This could seriously affect survival of this already threatened species.
Scientists don’t have badges and guns, but they are trying to correct the noise pollution problem. By tracking ships and marine mammals and understanding how noise travels, they are creating sound maps. They hope to get shipping lanes moved so that the noise pollution ships create will not overlap with areas most important to the whales.

Liu was not willing to explain the reason of his false start, but he told Xinhua that it was not related to his foot injury. Another Cuban Orlando Ortega followed in 7.68 seconds and Balazs Baji of Hungary stood third in 7.70 seconds. Last Saturday, Liu won the men's 60m hurdle final in 7.41 seconds at the Birmingham indoor tournament, setting a new Asian record. He said Wednesday that he hoped to have an even better performance than he did in Birmingham at the Stockholm indoor tournament. There's more to learning math than paying attention in class, according to recent research. It shows that kids' math performance may be better for those with a natural gift for sensing number.

Studies in the past looked at how sensing numbers affected performance, but researchers didn't know whether the natural ability to sense numbers limited math skills.

Scientists performed the following experiment to judge people’s ability to sense numbers. For example, showing a number of dots for a very short time -- some blue, others red -- and asking someone to determine which group of dots was more is a common way to measure people's ability to sense numbers.

The dots appear and disappear so quickly that it becomes impossible to count, so the numbers have to be sensed instead. Also called the Approximate Number System (ANS) (略估数字系统), this ability has been studied in adults, children, infants and even non-human animals.

In the experiment, researchers studied 174 children between 3 and 5 years of age to judge their ANS with computer tests. Then they judged children's math and verbal(口头的) skills through a series of tests and asking parents to list common words in their children's vocabulary.

Allowing for age, vocabulary size and speed of taking the test, the group still found better ANS scores to be associated with children's early math abilities. In the past it was thought to be the result of different teaching styles, but this relationship seems to already exist before kids start formal math education in school.

However, the authors of the paper admit they cannot use ANS to predict math ability. They said that they could not control other aspects of learning, which may also have an effect.

Dana Cummings says AmpSurf can change the way a disabled person thinks. "Most people with disabilities consider himself or herself unlucky and useless, but we want them to see what they can do.
